iPhone and webdiplomacy
I have just bought an iPhone. Webdiplomacy looks really good on it :)
One small problem though. I can't sroll through my in-game messages. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? For example I might try to read a message by Germany and then scroll back to his previous messages, but I can't find a way to do this. Suggestions?

So I got another map this time through...I can't think of a name. Atlantica II doesn't sound quite right for it. (Still in Development)

Problem seeing Ghost Rankings Site
Anyone know why the site with the ghost rankings won't load onto my screen for more than a second? I've tried using both firefox and google chrome. Do I need to download some plug-in or something?

Name Calling, stabing and game play
In a recent game I was called a 'Bastard' by Russia (I am Austria) and accused of 'stabbing' him for arranging an alliance against him in 1901. In his diplomatic message to me he said that he wanted to stay neutral in 1901. Therefore if I attack him by taking Rumania and supporting Germany against Warsaw and Turkey against Sevastaopl can this be considered a stab?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

Not really. But if he's been attacked by three people and probably by England at Scandanavia too i think he has a right to feel aggrieved. Quite harsh.
Timur (684 D(B))
10 Apr 10 UTC
Only a 'stab' if you had previously agreed to a DMZ or other form of alliance, I would think.
Doesn't mean you're not still a 'bastard', though :~)
Some people do get too heated over what is, after all, just a friendly game.

You should not discuss on the forum games that are still going on, specially discuss future moves.
ReaverNecris (130 D)

This is diplomacy. Unless you are playing by complete honor rules and you all know each other the game is made for backstabbing and such.
Just because you made an alliance against him doesn't mean you are a bastard.
It means you are a better diplomat

That is why I didn't give the game id, but I forgot that you can look at my profile and perhaps figure it out. sorry.

What do you think about name calling? Is it ever justified. I find it insulting, but perhaps it is just me a 33 year old father of 3 from Canada. If someone swears or is insulting to me, I tend to work hard diplomatically to get them eliminated, and so far it has worked.

I have just finished reading Winston Churchill's work 'The second world war'. In it he states "When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Is politeness important?

Any thoughts?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

Politeness does help you diplomatically and in future games with that person can be helpful, however, it is not totally neccessary. I suppose it depends on the situation.
ReaverNecris (130 D)
10 Apr 10 UTC
Name calling usually doesn't help the situation unless you do it on public chat and actually have an alliance going.
Most of the time though it gets everyone against you for being a poor sport.
That's why I don't do stuff like that anymore.

i'd say you got off pretty light, i've been called worse things over smaller matters, but thats just how some people play. i do think it is funny when people get all pissed about a stab, in my mind if i'm able to stab them i'm gonna go for it, it is part of the game, and if they trust me enough to have left there border wide open, then they deserve the stab.
you always have to watch your back in this game, and i've been on both sides of that.

Some people are just immature and name call when upset. Usually it just hurts them and someday they may mature and figure that out. Sometimes name calling is used to throw someone off if they can't handle it. It appears you can handle it quite well so again, it is just hurting the other player.

No reason to take offense, IMHO. Just acknowledge that the other person is what he/she is to make the best of the situation.

joey1: Just smile to yourself for being so devilish. ;-)
(But to give you a hint, don't cut off relations with people that are insulting you; they may be used in the future.)
Well, I mean your parent were married weren't they? If the guy's going to be petty, let him be so. It's frustrating to be outplayed, but it happens. I've found the overwhelming majority of people are very polite (I even had one "you were right to stab me on that move; it was absolutely the best move to make" when talking to one player after the game). It was probably just a guy having a bad day, or is twelve or something.

Not to post public accusations on the forum, since that is against the rules, but joey - if you happen to take a look at some site join dates and game histories for a few of the other players in your game, and then happen to write an email to a mod....it might be a good idea.

I agree with lulzworth, and strongly support his suggestion.

Keep in mind that a little feigned anger can be a powerful diplomatic tool. It's always difficult to tell when somebody is serious in this game.

personally, i think its a major achievement to be cussed at in this game. it means your stab was truely effective. i never name call but i think its hilarious when others call me names.

i stabbed one guy so hard that he cussed me up one side and down the other.
Tru Ninja (1016 D(S))

on a side note to anyone who ever plays with me, if you ever cuss me out, im still always willing to work with you. no hard feelings.
iMurk789 (100 D)

hey, some people may actually use name calling as a diplomatic tactic- they may be trying to anger the player into attacking them for some unknown reason.
Timur (684 D(B))
11 Apr 10 UTC
@Murk: I think that is so true. Reminds me of bar-fight strategy.
JECE (1248 D)

Tru Ninja: Yep.

It would not be considered a stab because you did not agree to be neutral. Stabbing, at least by my definition, is simply breaking a promise, whether explicit or implicit.

Is there a reason why the clock would be off by 30 seconds? I missed some vital orders because of them. Now I'm kinda bummed.
