- ALL communcation (the envelope symbols) "pops" as soon as send is pressed.
Goondip is working on this - he's got some great code which checks for updates every second, this is fine for one server running one game, (and sometimes a bit slow) but this site can't handle it with the thousands of games running at the same time. This site was designed without live games in mind, but with day long phases. It works very well for those. (also the code is open enough that others can take it or modify it) I doubt there will be any changes here to make it more 'live friendly'
- Each phase-update reloads the page automatically.
not needed; one click per day to reload is not too much to ask the user.
- ALL finalizing the round shall force a "jump" to next phase to speed things up. (I mean 5 min for retreats is sometimes 5 min to long). At least in live games.
if someone write a version specifically designed for live games then that'd be great, i do think it need's it's own server. (and possibly distributed server powers would make this work, i will see about working on that sometime...)
- Make the ordering arrows a bit more "seethrough". A really messy battlesituation is almost impossible to oversee. Also make a list for all orders made available (ie a pop up like the big map) . Should make it more easy to glance and overview.
list is available, large view of map is also there for more details (including failed supports) you sholdn't just be glancing at the results unless you're not paying enough attension to the game - i think this is fine.
- Make both the Army and Fleets "bigger" and more obvious. They can also "disappear" under the ordering arrows.
i've never found his to be a problem.
- Make "draw" and "pause"-votes pop on the game chat instead of just showing in the table. ie "Russia calls for a pause".
The player always has the option of calling for a pause in the game chat. (excepting gunboat)
- In the boardgame and PC-game one have the "fleet in rome"-option.
U could also opt for fleet i StP N (houserules).
variant support was intentionally not being provided. even fleet rom is a variant, the other modern variant for making italy better is milan; the russian fleet on the north coast of stp is also a variant. goondip is doing a nice job supporting a much wider range of variants. I don't know if kes will add them here.
there is also a Winter1901 variant (where everyone gets to choose which units to build) and a 1898 variant, where everyone starts with one unit and one supply centre. Each provide a different opening strategy.
I think opening srategy is really interesting and varied without changing anything, if you haven't yet tried everything then i don't see why you'd want to go playing a variant yet. (excepting that sometimes it's hard to find 7 players, so i'd play the 5 player med variant if i couldn't play with 7 players)
further, the suggestion that itlay does better with a second fleet is argued to be wrong, based on the fact that only one army limits offensive/defensive actions which those armies could be used for in 1901.
(fyi kestas maintains this code, there is a developers forum where you're better off posting this, but i don't have a link or it.)
