@ ag: If you read my post carefully, you will realise that I would not trust Paypal either. I have been compromised before and, once bitten, twice shy.

If I had an address or equivalent, I'd stick a cheque in the post or something. At the end of the day, I'd trust Kestas to bank it for the site more than the rest of cyberspace. I wouldn't even complain if he bought a few beers. Besides, even if someone stole my cheque, the damage is limited. I once had extremely important files copied from what was supposed to be a secure system and it cost me a lot personally. You don't forget these things.

If your writing a cheque, be careful about the ink you use- a Noodler's bulletproof ink would be a very good choice.

You can mail me your check and I will forward it via Paypal. That's the safest and most secure method.

@flashman: If there is fraud or anything, the VISA/MASTERCARD has security/insurance against this. You just have to put a claim if something happens, and they refund you.

I've never had any issue with Paypal (my family uses it a lot), and the only issue is receiving what you pay for (ebay, etc).

I just wrote a reply, a long one, and it didn't register. Bug!

Basically, it was a very serious mater that cost me in multiple ways. I was a key witness for a corruption case and my computer was hacked. The system had been set up by a recognised expert: he had written successful books on the subject and it got hacked. The case could not proceed because other witness refused to come forwards. Not surprising as my own confidentiality had ben compromised.

It cost me in was you could barely imagine, including having to remove my son from his school for about four months until one of the implicated parties was removed from her post as School Principal by other means.

I am an odd ball at times and am not prepared ever again to place my trust in web security. Even my work - writing - is done on a machine with a unique operating system and is never ever connected to the internet. You cannot even stick a disk or a stick into it - total virgin. I print directly from it and use the hard copies. My publisher (educational stuff) has to live with it.

Actually, this conversation came up some time ago. I said then that if someone else trusts paypal, I would send them the donation and they could do it for me - someone I know, of course. We are not talking big money I assume and I am reasonably well settled in life: house, kid, kitchen slave etc...
