The movie kinda makes Barack Obama complicit in most of the destruction in the movie. He's actually mentioned by name, and the National Security Adviser or whatever he was said he had an order from the President to shut down the Autobots. When the military does move against the Decepticons they're pretty much mutinying.

It really, really makes Obama look bad if you think about it. I know there probably isn't very much to gain from critically deconstructing a Transformers movie, but it is interesting. I mean, some people said Dark Knight was about Bush not caring about being popular and just doing what he thought was right, maybe movie this says a little something about Barry.

But probably not. The movie couldn't even make up its mind whether it was in Egypt or Jordan...

i mean, come on, they mixed terminator and jumper into a transformers movie. They also have a megamachine that looks like the power rangers put it together which has a mouth like something from Core.

And megan fox is always in heels, except when the scene cuts to show her diving around in flat shoes...the continuity was rubbish. Nice lips though.

Michael Bay has lost some of his stature with out Jerry Bruckheimer. The best Bay did was with Bruckheimer. Movies like Con Air and The Rock were loads of fun, although I was never a fan of the "handheld" jerkiness used in the car chase in The Rock. It gives me a headache on the big screen.

No one else noticed how bad it made Obama look? Why put him in the movie at all if all he is is the standard stubborn politician who gets in the heroes way?

They also go out of there way to not acknowledge that Israel exists. There's even a scene where they go to a checkpoint between Egypt and Jordan, even though they don't border.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the production is team is just incompetant rather than malicious? I would believe that.

Although the Egypt/Jordan border thing is pretty bad.... Maybe their assuming that Israel disappears sometime in the next four years... :S

I never said anything about them being malicious. I'm far from an Obama fan.

I just found it odd that they would make the sitting President the President in the film when the government and him personally are shown to be completely incompetent. I don't remember that ever happening in a movie before.

A decision about whether someone is being malicious has nothing to do with how you feel about the target Invictus. :P

But I agree. Peculiar that the President is named while in office. To be honest I don't believe I've ever heard of that happening before.

Naming the president and making him look incompetent, and then willing Israel out of existence - those aren't mistakes. Someone has an agenda.

Did you see the Daily Show last night where people in Times Square couldn't name a country in the middle east that started with 'i' but wasn't Iraq, EVEN WHEN THEY WERE SPOTTED THE 'I' 'R' 'A' 'N' ! That's the audience for this movie - people who get their information from entertainment, instead of from journalists and educators. So they'll walk out with the impression that there's no country between Egypt and Jordan, and Obama can't recognize a threat to the U.S.

Gee Invictus now we all go into the movie knowing that the government doesn't save the day in this movie, and only end up making things worse. How about a spoiler alert?

Seriously though that does sound odd that Obama is mentioned by name, I wonder where that decision came from

There seem to be surprisingly few hot good actresses. They all seem to become famous for being hot, then become good actresses when they get older.

@Fig, Michelle Pfeiffer has always been hot and a good actress, as has Nicole Kidman. In fact, they've gotten hotter as they've gotten older (at least to someone near their age, like myself).

God, I had the hots for her for years. Won't admit to it now, since of course I _only_ have eyes for my wife.

mmmmmmmmmm. I wanted to be Matthew Broderick in Ladyhawke. Tequila Sunrise isn't the greatest movie, but mmmmmm When she sings on the piano in Baker boys, pants light on fire. Even Sukie in the Witches of Eastwick, with her librarian look (Sarandon was the REALLY hot one in that movie...)

For younger, hot, and talented, Kate Winslet (who won her second Empire Award for her role in Branagh's rendition of Shakespeare's Hamlet when she was just 22 BEFORE her role in Titanic) and Marisa Tomei (won her Oscar for her role in My Cousin Vinny at 28).

New Variant: Weird alliances

Has anyone ever tried a variant where you're required to ally with a certain person for a certain amount of time? (Maybe three years?) I think it would be really cool, especially if you come up with some interesting alliances. After that initial period though, you could ally with whoever you wanted to, and stab whoever you wanted to... More below

Moderator please unpause our game!!!

has been on pause because of one player for I think slightly over a week now. The player did not leave a message reporting an extended absence before the pause was voted for, and I don't believe he was the original voter for the pause. Is there any way you can issue him as a civil disorder and unpause the game so we can finally play?

This isn't a big deal Kestas, but I figured I'd let you know. As Russia, my fleet in Baltic can support a move to Prussia, but if any unit were moving to Prussa, it would have to be convoyed through the Baltic. When I select it, it says no options available, you can't perform this order, so it's not really a problem, I just figured I'd let you know.
