Rule Changes?

Hey it's Sniffy. I just started playing again today for the first time in a few months and I'm wondering if there has been any important rule changes just to stay on the legal side of things. I almost had a bad run in with the law last time I played and I want to prevent that this time. ^_^

mods help

can someone help us out with this game? crealay has abandoned his account (we all know him in real life) but he isnt CD. we want to find a new player, but we dont want to play 2 turns of grabbing austrias supply centers and then have a replacement join. could you please boot him or something? by the way, the reason why we finalized his orders is because he gave away his password when he left so we've been finalizing to hold.

Moral Dilema

I started playing dip about a week ago, and have consequently lied outright to a couple of people. I feel really bad cos i'm a nice person normally lol but is this just part of the game to lie well and choose your battles, or is it better to try and remain truthful while secrectly trying to get people to do what u want them to?

Strategic Questions - Stabbing

Stabbing - is it better done in the spring (much more time to plan) or the fall (surprise element/immediate gain)?

I never really understood the point of stabbing in the Spring. Unless you're going after non-SC territories.

Depends on the situation. Does he see the stab coming and might be able to get something in to keep you out of the territory in the fall? Then grab it in the spring as you get the homefield advantage when holding. Two on two means you'll retain ownership in the fall where as Two on two will bounce if you wai tuntil the fall to take it.

It depends. In the Spring, you get a couple of seasons to make initial gains, in the fall you can make a quick gain. It all depends on the board.

Richard Sharp has advocated stabbing in the Spring, on the grounds that it is counterintuitive, and more importantly because it allows you to reach farther targets, which may not be as heavily guarded.

As long as you plan ahead, it doesn't matter. If you take something in the spring and lose it in the fall, it was wasteful. If you've planned ahead, it doesn't matter.

DIngJ is 100% right. The only reason NOT to stab in the Spring is if you will lose it in the Fall. Sometimes you have to stab in the Spring becase you need to move through the buffer - but if the stabee can't get back to cover, or doing so loses his forward position, you've done what you want to do.

Equally moving in autumn often means you get the build whilst he gets a disband, which may prevent him counter-stabbing.
I'm not sure if thats the right term, or even makes sense, but i mean stop him attacking you straight away. Often stabs are not executed from particularly good aggressive positions, as until they you have been/pretended to be allies. Thus if you don't stab correctly you can end up looking far more than you gain

New Player in Private Game

I have started a private game and a player had to drop out. I sent the game "sting" to a new player to join and take his place. The new player received an error stating, "Could not join game: You haven't specified which country you want to take over." How does he join and specify the country he wants to take over?
