The judges have also eliminated the ability to do unwanted convoys. I believe there is a realism factor at play. If I were France trying to get a foothold into Italy, and an Italian fleet came up and said "hop on board, we'll take your army over!", do you really think my generals would say "Gee, let's hop on the enemy's boats and hope we get where we want to go."?

All the army has to do to prevent a sudden convoy is to specify "via land" in the move order. Anything else either requires a convoy anyway, or else would contradict the convoy order and the convoy order would fail (though the move, if it does not require a convoy, can still succeed).

There are in principle 4 types of unwanted convoys.
1. To disrupt a convoy by giving an alternative route with a fleet that is almost certainly dislodged. Is only possible with the 1971 rules.
2. To avoid cut of a support, by ordering a convoy. Only possible with 1982 rule.
3. Unwanted swap.
4. To give an alternative route if the other play wants the convoy to fail, if it is disrupted.

Only case 4 is possible with this site.
