Country Alliance Game
Help with rules for setting up a pre-set alliance game.
VegHeadMoby (780 D)
28 Nov 08 UTC
I'm interested in playing in some kind of team game where there are pre-set alliances between countries, but I'm not entirely sure how they're played. I've seen posts about this type of game here in the forum before, and I was hoping that someone might explain how to set one up on this website (and include rules and such too). I guess ideally, it would be set up in the forum and be a password game, to ensure that your assigned ally didn't go CD on you or anything like that.

Thank you!

Emily

Most of its up to you. A common preset alliance game is a WWI one though, Russia-England-France against Austria-Germany-Turkey with Italy being able to choose his alliance. After Italy does choose his alliance he must stick to it though.

Here's one I'm in now:

Are there any more direct questions that you have?

On this website, once one alliance has won, does everyone typically just vote for a draw or do the remaining countries break alliance and fight for the win?

We typically vote for a draw.

i woulds say the a recreated WW1 scenario doesnt work well. it quickly leads to a stalemate line, the east destroys russia and western germany falls to the west. then it grinds to a halt. better mix it up and have a hopscotch alliance board.

Turkey-Germany,Russia-Italy, Austria-France-Eng
Thats one I've played before, which worked well. Another nice one is to talk to the players first and pair up based on real-world locations. Thus you are allied with people who you are going to be able to communicate with easily.

There is also a variant idea called Formal Diplomacy where each country has a declared Alliance/Neutrality/War status with each other country.

If you are allied you can write support orders for your allies and you can move into their territory without it converting to yours. (including supply centers) you can also convoy their units and be convoyed,

If you are neutral you cannot enter their territory or dislodge their units at sea.

If you are war you can attack them but you cannot convoy them or support them.

with each season you declare changes in status:
Allies must be mutually declared and ends wars
War is unilateral
Neutrality breaks alliances but mutual declarations will end wars

We played one a while back where we set players in preset alliances with the seventh man being on his own. We had some chat rules as well but we agreed they sucked. Interestingly the person without an ally (xgongive2ya if I remember correctly) won. Everyone was courting their support.

Thanks so much - this makes it a lot clearer. Has anyone ever tried France-England, Russia-Turkey, and Germany, Austria, Italy?

That alliance structure sounds quite interesting.

I tried FE-RT-GAI on facebook diplomacy.

I was Turkey.

Russia and I swept the board, I think it is unbalanced.

To Kestas or Any of the Mods Who Can Help:
I would like to know if it's possible to remove the annoying underscore from the middle of my name and replacing it with a space. I put it there as a placeholder under the assumption that user names had to be all one word when I created this account. I have since found out that this is not the case. Any chance that one of you gallant folks can help :)?

Why was the (English) army in Belgium destroyed?

The little star in Belgium means that the army was destroyed, right? How come? Couldn't it have retreated to Holland or Picardy?

Hey Kestas! (or other admins)
I posted about this a bit ago, but I'm switching emails, so I'm also closing down this account. I've now finished all my games. So, is there a way to transfer my points to a another account I've set up with the correct email? If so, that's great. If not, no big deal, I just would like to play against more advanced players sooner... Thanks!

Deleting an army/fleet
Is it possible to move your own army into your own territory with a support to destroy a fleet that you don't want?
Say, Fleet A is unwanted, so Army B supports Army C into Fleet A's territory.
Will Fleet A be destroyed or will nothing happen and this a dumb thought?

Dear Kestas: A solipsist's accusation
I suspect that I am the only real player on this site, and that every other user is a fabrication created by you. I suspect that you spend all your time attempting to fool me into believing that I am surrounded by real people all different all over the world. Furthermore, I suspect I know you in person. Respond to these accusations.

New Question
Lets say I am moving from Holland to Kiel, which is occupied. Berlin is support moving to Kiel, and Prussia is support holding on Berlin. IF Berlin is attacked by one army, is support cut even though Prussia is support holding on it?
