Regain Password?
For some reason the browser-saved password for my regular account here was reset. All the passwords I regularly use for web sites like this seem not to work and I was not able to find a way to have my password resubmitted. Anybody any help on this one?

Situation of Honor
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=5493 In this game I agreed to draw with Both Germany and Russia. Their condition was that England is eliminated. So I offer to support Germany to finish England in return for a draw. While I can not force them to actually draw (it appears they will not) Do you think these tactics of lying in such a way is appropriate within the game of PHP Diplomacy?

Anything goes in Diplomacy. Nobody is ever bound by anything stated or implied. That's one of the core principles of the game.

That's an exceptionally jerk move there, though.

I'd say it's a dick move, yes. But completely within his rights, unfortunately.

Whats the difference between that and in 1901 agreeing to draw with country x, but then come 1915 not following through. I see nothing wrong nor particularly dickish about this.

Either he was stringing you along or changed his mind. He can do that. I wouldn't.

i think the issue is that it was a metagame (about, but not within) promise for an in-game benefit. so the part which bugs you i think is the meta-game aspect. I would have trouble with this too if it were a promise made on that turn about that turn about the state of the game itself, particularly because you could type "/draw" and not put in orders expecting the others to draw.

THough i think metagame deals made on a turn should be kept when they deal with that turn, cross deal turns and conditional agreements are another matter. Because action isnt demanded on that turn, a person can agree to something general, not perform, and still have kept their word as far as that turn is concerned. I think people tend to keep their word within the scope of a turn, but will often break it when the deal is cross-turn and that this should be expected.

That, and the rules explicitly state that no agreements are binding.

oh, and it should be noted that I am russia in the game he is referring to.

Not only legal, it's admirable! Well, in the realm of phpDip anyway. It's a real dick move, but it did a good job. Live and learn. =)

I completely agree with this tactic. He dangled the carrot of a draw for support from you, as long as it is effective and gives him a workable position, I salute him on a well played deception.

I would say the opposite, he is morally oblidged not to accept the draw if he could do better by not accepting it.

I wouldnt go back on a promise like that but life sucks sometimes in PHP
I really just wanted to see what you guys think because I really expected to draw. I have 16 centers (15 now) and I hate to think of being destroyed from having such a dominant lead

I think it would be more aggravating (but still acceptable ) if you had altered your play because of it, but looking at the game you were battling with both of them up to the point of England's demise in 1914. When you're fighting 2 powers who are allied against you and they say ANYTHING, I would not trust it. Because they can and will say anything to turn the tables. It's not like you relaxed your defence or your offense based on the "promise" of a draw - or even helped them eliminate England other than the support move into Liv in Spring 1914. In fact that's probably when they offered the draw, right? HAHA Brilliant, I say - not even dickish at all when the context of the specific game is considered.
Actually they had been promising me that after the destruction of england they would draw for several years. I saw an opportunity to facilitate that process to end the game and in the process slit my wrists. I am in the process of a slow and painful death--when you have 16 and the coalition has 18 and slowly widdle me down to nothing at all. I am so pissed about the whole situation. I just want the game to end and to gain some points back.
You may be in for a long wait for fewer points than you are hoping for.
Oh dont I know it.

As the England player, I do hope you get destroyed after having such a dominant lead.

I'd try to force a stalemate if I were you. I'm sure with 15 units you can soçupport hold all you have and make an impenetrable defense.

Is attacking the person with the highest point total a valid strategy?
Do you guys think that attacking or ganging up on the person with the highest points for no other reason is valid? Of course its according to the rules, but isn't that arbitrary?

What do you guys think?

Can F-Black Sea support F-Cons -> Bulgaria SC? I have been told that a unit can provide support to a country it can attack, regardless of which coast, but I am concerned that in the "support to" textbox, I have the option of Bulgaria or Bulgaria NC but no SC.

Hi, I'm adjudicating your votes, and this seems the easiest way to talk to all of you at once. I have not received votes from all of you, when do you want the output from me? If you're trying to decide in which format to submit your responses, as one of you has asked me, the most useful for me is to have them sorted by attacking nation.

Full memory of Correspondence
/right now there is a limit on the space for messages so that your earlier messages get lost in cyber-land as the game goes on or as your correspondence is more intense, whcih is exactly when you really want to be able to go back to the beginning to find out where things went sideways or to go over subtle nuances that you may have missed.
Can this be fixed reasonably quickly???
