Two People Using the Same Computer

I can't seem to find it... but my girlfriend has an account, and so do I... Will we get penalized for playing on the same computer? (she usually does her updates at work, but doesn't work 24 hours a day... odd huh?). Just wanted to make sure.

Oh, and if you are wondering, she usually stabs me in the back first.

Here's one I got. It was rather creative at least. I rather enjoyed this one (He also bashed Troutface in this one too, I hope Trout doesn't mind me posting this). It should be noted that I had 13 SCs and the poster (who shall remain nameless) had 12 SCs when this comment was made):

"How nice of England to conveniently disband all the pesky Units. This is a sick spectacle of friends cooperating, not a supposedly competitive game played by Professionals. You're certainly no professional Trout - you don't even know how this game works. I recommend for you - www.dominategame.com - RISK, you're playing the wrong game you loser because you don't seem capable of normal Diplomacy communication. Let's get this sad excuse of a game, obviously crammed with Treefarn's stooges and cronies (Turkey excepted) finished since the outcome looks like it's a fait accompli in any case.

I hope you take comfort from your hollow Victory, with not a skerrick of moral authority about it. The outcome is about as fair and independent as a Zimbabwean election. Oh great - lets all gang bang <me> - can I join in as well?"

i keep hearing on how nasty some people can get in the game chat but i have yet to see any real nastiness. At most what i get is a few people claiming that because of a small move or infraction on m,y part they will "throw the game" and "make it their new aim to destroy me no matter what happens to their home sc"
complete bollocks and at best just an advance warning that they will spend the next two turns attacking me then revert to normal or hyperventilate about another players action and redirect their anger elsewhere.

It's all valid strategy, or kinda pathetic, depending on who you're talking to. The last opponent I was particularly unpleasant to immediately started communicating more like a reasonable human being and less like a Dark Lord of the Sith (still kicked my ass, though), and the one before that (he started it) made an unbelievable mess of his game....

Not at all on subject but some of the quotable stuff from the Sopranos is as good as it gets...

My favourite is one of the episodes where Rap is getting sent up and a gaggle of gangstas asks the Sopranos, in the context of it being time for someone new to take over he world, "Where are the Romans now?"

Ghost, Italy and I were agreed on moving north vs germany. At one point Italy had 7 and I had 9, Germany only had 7. Italy asked me about going after Germany, I agreed, then he stabbed me. I didnt play very well, and Italy beat me, but in the meantime Germany was given free reign to expand as he wished.

If Italy never stabs me we steamroll through Europe, and split 17-17 or 18-16 or whatever. Instead Germany will now win, because Italy has taken far too much time and attention to defeat me.

sorry to hear what you get called pandora. basically some nerds dont get a lot of you know what and along comes you with your you know what and your firm opinions and sass and well that happens i guess. ive never been called anything like that at all. i guess for most people when you are at war with someone you dont talk all that much, there is no point sometimes.

I have been publicly accused of multiaccounting - playing three countries in one game no less! (England, France, and Austria in http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4297; I am England... only.)

France and I then decided to mess with the accuser's head, so France had me reply to a private message the accuser sent to France, then he "repeated" it saying he'd accidentally sent it from the wrong account.

It might end up getting us banned, but it was funny enough to be worth it. :-)

Dealing with the MySQL 5.0.45 bug

The bug we dealt with a few days ago is causing problems for people who are stuck on 5.0.45 (Facebook Diplomacy), and we may be updating back to 5.0.45 ourselves in the future.

So I'm going to be adding some code which I hope will work around the bug, but there may be problems with it so let me know if you notice anything wrong. I've tested it at home on reprocessing many games and running the DATC tests and it seems to work, but there may be issues which weren't encountered.

I've taken a backup but the sooner I hear about any problems the better.

Can't Support Hold.

In the game Velvet Divorce (http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4337&msgCountry=Global), The game wont allow the army in St Petersburg to support hold the army in Finland. Does the game think that the army is a fleet on the North coast?

Convoying Question.

If I convoy an army from Wales -> Picardy. And I want to double support it, how do I do it? Do I do:

Fleet English Channel CONVOY from Wales to Picardy
Army Belgium SUPPORT MOVE Wales to Picardy
And ask a friend to do:
Army Burgundy SUPPORT MOVE Wales to Picardy

Or do I do:
Fleet English Channel CONVOY from Wales to Picardy
Army Belgium SUPPORT MOVE English Channel to Picardy
And ask a friend to do:
Army Burgundy SUPPORT MOVE English Channel to Picardy

This is assuming that the fleet at English Channel has no chance of being attacked by anythign.

A question of metagaming

A while back, a player offered me a deal that involved metagaming. I obviously did not accept the deal, and ignored the offer. However, I was thinking, would it be acceptable for me to tell the player that I accepted the deal, assuming that I didn't actually go through with it. Is it okay to tell someone you will metagame with them if you are lying? Tell me what you think.

The bug

Hi guys, clearly there's a major problem.

I've paused the gamemaster while I figure it out. It looks like all the problems being posted relate to the TerrStatus table not updating correctly, which affects builds, and orders which depend on the territory you occupied.

Sorry about this, but this may require moving the database back a few hours because this has messed up a lot of games.
