Replacement player needed for public, non-anon World Diplomacy game
Game: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=207427
India has disappeared and we need a replacement player. His position is still pretty good, so lots of potential there. If you are game, we'll try contacting a mod to swap you in so that there isn't another NMR.

What does Bhm. Sea stand for in the modern map version?
In the modern map, there's a territory named Bhm. Sea. What does that stand for? I always assumed Bohemian Sea though that doesn't exist (and the sea isn't close to Bohemia). Perhaps it is Bornholm Sea (after the Danish island in the Baltic in that area)?

When Is The New Forum Going Live?
I had a quick look at the forum a while ago. It looked good to me. Any idea when it may go live? On a completely unrelated note - any chance we may turn SSL on for the site?

Identification Methods
For a story I'm writing, I need an adult who has lost his memory to not be easily identifiable. How do I make this feasible?
For instance, I expect the Dutch government to have the fingerprints of Dutch citizens. Do legal immigrants or people with a refugee status have their fingerprints taken as well? Would illegal immigrants or tourists from countries that don't take fingerprints make for a solid storyline? Are there other options?

Known World 901 - Playable?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm fairly new around here. I'm looking through the variant maps, and I see one that looks like a lot of fun, the Known World 901 map. On the Variants page, it lists it as active, but when I go to create a new game I don't see it as an option to select.

An open discussion about elaborate ways to restore reliability rating
I was thinking how there are members on this site who ruined their Reliability early and can never restore it to the 90th %tile. What if we did a series of experiments on these people. Hook them up to machines. Or perhaps put them in a room full of rats and see if they survive. The goal being we develop a way that someone could go from a 13% RR to a mighty 78%

hypothetical changes to classic map
Ideas I have had that I thought might improve balancing. Not saying that I would advocate for all of these; they're just ideas I think about sometimes.
(1) Make Portugal not a supply center (like Finland). This would weaken France's power, and France is too strong relative to the other powers. This would also reduce the ability of England, France, and Italy to get solo wins. This would make Germany initially stronger than England and France and encourage more E-F teamups. This would discourage Italy from attacking early France as the payoff is smaller.

(2) Add a territory called "Siberia" by cutting Moscow in 2. "Siberia" border Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Sevastopol. This makes St. Petersburg defensible from the south and makes breakthroughs to the north or south more possible.

(3) Make Apulia Italy's home center instead of Venice. This puts at least 1 space between Italy and Austria's home centers, which is true of all other power relationships.

(4) Give Austria 3 starting armies.

the interesting thing about portugal is that at least half of the time England or France is clinging to it as their last supply center for many many turns. it is a fairly unique center in that regard. i think this scenario would also cause an early France/Italy clash much more likely.
Yeah I forgot to state that point initially: I hate that Portugal is a unique supply center in that it is only bordered by 2 other spaces - so it is extremely difficult to dig someone out of it. Not only that, but because it sits on the stalemate line, it gives England and France an unmatched advantage over other powers in sneaking into a draw by clinging to life in Portugal. It causes weird, bad gameplay (in my opinion) when England or France suicides the rest of their centers to sneak into Portugal, hoping for that exact scenario.

On another note, without Portugal as a supply center, France will need Warsaw, Moscow, or an Italian home center in order to solo win (in addition to Tunis and the other usual centers France takes). So not only is France's early game reduced (France cannot get the usual 2 free builds that no other power besides Germany can usually get), but also France's endgame is made much more difficult. I think this would be an improvement because France solo wins far more easily than the other powers (not necessarily more OFTEN, because the players self-balance by fearing France - but it is easier to accomplish in my opinion).

3) is a solid idea, but weakens Italy's Western and Northern influence too much. I prefer the idea of creating a new territory that borders Tyrolia, Piedmont, VEN, and TUS that is Italy's new Supply center.
1) is too radical of a change. France is strong, but it is not so strong as to deserve losing essentially a free supply center, which this does.

4 seems fine.
2 is Crazy as it enables someone to hold StP from the South. It completely changes the stalemate line, and frankly I think gives too much power to the Southern nations.
Regarding (2) - I should say that it greatly increases the ability to hold StP from the south, but it is still possible to take it by overwhelming force. If Livonia were poked by Baltic Sea, then a supported attack using Gulf of Bothnia, Finland, Norway, and Barents sea would still work.

I think the western nations are generally stronger than the southern ones because southern centers like Tunis, Warsaw, and Moscow are much easier to take and hold from the north than northern centers like St. Petersburg, Munich, Berlin and Marseilles from the south.

I think the classic map in all of it's strangeness is perfect in that the game is naturally balanced by skill and diplomacy.

Now are there some interesting variants... hell yea.

I would love to see a passable neutral switzerland, italy with a F in rome, Turkey with all navies and many more.

If we're talking about changing the classic game slightly, how about chaos?

If Portugal becomes not a supply center, shouldn't the winning condition change to 17 SC's? That would not make it harder for France to win, but it would make it easier for the other powers.

After how many times Jurassic Park has failed why is there still investors?
How many times has this place failed or expeditions to it have failed? Seems like the liability lawsuits alone wouldve ensured that park wouldnt have ever been remade.
