Replacement player needed for public, non-anon World Diplomacy game
Game: http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=207427
India has disappeared and we need a replacement player. His position is still pretty good, so lots of potential there. If you are game, we'll try contacting a mod to swap you in so that there isn't another NMR.

What does Bhm. Sea stand for in the modern map version?
In the modern map, there's a territory named Bhm. Sea. What does that stand for? I always assumed Bohemian Sea though that doesn't exist (and the sea isn't close to Bohemia). Perhaps it is Bornholm Sea (after the Danish island in the Baltic in that area)?

I had a quick look at the forum a while ago. It looked good to me. Any idea when it may go live? On a completely unrelated note - any chance we may turn SSL on for the site?

Identification Methods
For a story I'm writing, I need an adult who has lost his memory to not be easily identifiable. How do I make this feasible?
For instance, I expect the Dutch government to have the fingerprints of Dutch citizens. Do legal immigrants or people with a refugee status have their fingerprints taken as well? Would illegal immigrants or tourists from countries that don't take fingerprints make for a solid storyline? Are there other options?

Known World 901 - Playable?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm fairly new around here. I'm looking through the variant maps, and I see one that looks like a lot of fun, the Known World 901 map. On the Variants page, it lists it as active, but when I go to create a new game I don't see it as an option to select.

An open discussion about elaborate ways to restore reliability rating
I was thinking how there are members on this site who ruined their Reliability early and can never restore it to the 90th %tile. What if we did a series of experiments on these people. Hook them up to machines. Or perhaps put them in a room full of rats and see if they survive. The goal being we develop a way that someone could go from a 13% RR to a mighty 78%

My thoughts on settings.
Non-flexible: Normal Draw Votes, 48 hours, Full Press
Flexible: Anon, SoS scoring, 200 point bet.

Anyone have any preferences on the flexible settings?
I strongly encourage draw-size scoring. I think the experience is a lot of fun when a near-death player has a lot to fight for.
JEccles (421 D)
08 Nov 17 UTC
I strongly encourage Anon.
damian (675 D)
08 Nov 17 UTC
I think its about 50-50 between DSS and SoS.
With draw size scoring you have the perks of there being a lot to fight for if you're still alive because a draw is huge. On the flip slide there tends to be a lot of tiresome careful maneuvering to cut down the size of the draw at the end which can be pretty dull if you aren't involved in it.

With SoS, the advantage is that there is less incentive to cut players, which leads to some interesting diplomatic consequences. Where its much easier to convince smaller players to work with you and stay alive, since your incentive to cut them is much smaller. On the flip side there is a lot less to play for if you're a small player since you aren't getting an equal share of the draw.

Overall I don't have a strong preference, I played most of my games pre-SoS so I haven't had a chance to really explore the negotiation space that it makes available which is why I suggested it. But I don't feel strongly about it, so if you feel strongly about DSS (and everyone else is happy with that). I'm game to do DSS.

I lack your impressive talent for managing multiple concurrent games Brad.
I may eventually start another game once this one is well underway if my other active game wraps up.

I don't change my play style based on scoring systems, so it really doesn't matter to me
I prefer DSS since I've become a purist, but I would not be totally against SoS. I think a 200 D bet would be great. Whether it's anon or not, I don't really care about, but tend to play anon more.
Ezio (2181 D)
09 Nov 17 UTC
I'd strongly prefer to play a non anon game.

Wusti, nothing is stopping you from creating your own game(s). In fact, we encourage it!
JEccles (421 D)

Do we have a target start date for this game, and an idea of what the rules are looking like?
damian (675 D)
09 Nov 17 UTC
We've got comments from just about everyone. It sounds like DSS, 200 points, Anon, Full-Press, Visible draw votes. 48/hr.

I was going to send out invites once we hammered the details home. So I'll be PMing everyone shortly.
Wusti (757 D)
10 Nov 17 UTC
Claesar - I have tried to - last one I did was almost in protest against this by asking for +100GR players only with decent RR and it never got subbed.

People on this site only want to play with the cool kids, and once your GR falls past a certain point, you're effectively fucked.
Claesar (4660 D)
10 Nov 17 UTC
Do you realise that by adding constraints to your game, you lower the number of potential candidates?
brainbomb (290 D)

Not true. People lose to me all the time im 840th in GR
Claesar (4660 D)

damian (675 D)
10 Nov 17 UTC
Humorously, the very last full press game I finished, that wasn't live, was with you Wusti. But there is clearly people interested in a game. Mine is all full up. But within this thread we have brainbomb, yourself, Valis, ChippeRock & Capt Brad.

If everyone is down to play you only need two more to get a game. :)

How many times has this place failed or expeditions to it have failed? Seems like the liability lawsuits alone wouldve ensured that park wouldnt have ever been remade.
