Rule Hypocrisy
the people that made a rule against "Sexism, racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry" but allow cussing i think is quite hypocritical. if you allow people to cuss on this site then why is it wrong for someone to politely state their belief that homosexuality is a sin? if this forum was made for people to voice their opinions and opinions are allowed on other matters then why is it wrong to voice your opinions on sticky subjects?

Switzerland: No Man's Land.
Let's assume that Switzerland is no longer impassable. What effects would that have on the game, the strategy, and the tactics? Should Switzerland stay a no man's land, or might it be more interesting to make it a playable space? Perhaps it could be a neutral supply center, or just a neutral territory. What do you guys think?

Turkey Opening Strategies: Moving to Syria?
Turkey opens normally, except the fleet in Ankara moves to Constantinople, and the army in Smyrna holds. The army in Smyrna then moves to Syria. Turkey can build a fleet in Ankara or Smyrna, depending on whether he is going after Russia or Italy. This is not my idea. I was just curious to know what you guys think about it. Is a Turkish move to Syria just plain silly, or might it have some serious strategic effects?

French - Italian alliance
How would this work? Usually there's a non-aggression pact, but if France were willing to sacrifice Marseilles in return for support in Tyrolia, is this a workable relationship? Stabs are VERY difficult as they cross the stalemate line, but has this been effectively done before?

I hate people from Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe-ans suck big time.

I was actually going to use this new thread to maybe comment about what I think about women, or maybe what I think about Republicans, or maybe something else like that. But then I thought those things might get me in trouble. So I decided to express my opinion about Zimbabwe-ans instead.

Tonight, it has been made abundantly clear by the site's co-owner that he does not want this site to be used by those whose opinions differ from his own, a group he ironically terms 'bigots'. He has urged those who wish to express these views that so trigger him to leave the site. As he said, so long as webDiplomacy continues to retain users, he will see nothing wrong with restricting the human right that is freedom of speech.

I have taken to heart his words and hereby declare my intention to leave this site, and I urge any self-respecting person who values diversity of opinions to follow me in doing so. This forum has certainly helped me develop my beliefs, but alas the tyranny of the majority was too strong to withstand.

Feel free to replace me in the game I'm in. I may check back in a few months or years to see if anything has changed, but until then I shall take my choice in the matter and do what I should have done long ago.

So, you're quitting because you can't refrain from personal attacks on others? Because from what I understand, that's the only restriction. If that's your problem with the rules, then I think we'll be ok without you and we can enjoy great dialog with the many others that remain and share your views, but who are capable of delivering them without personal attacks.

Unsurprisingly I diisagree that description of recent decisions made by those who run this site. I tried to leave myself, and am now glad that request was refused. Clearly we are still allowed to express a wide range of opinions etc, the changes mean we just have to be CAREFUL in HOW we do that. I will have to be more careful, but I accept that.

Firstly.

Freedom of expression or speech is not being infringed. You can create any website, and advocate your beliefs there to your hearts content. That doesn't mean anyone has to visit your page.

You are protected (in the US by the constitution) from government interference. That does not mean webdiplomacy has to facilitate your opinions.

So get over your self proclaimed right to speech.

Secondly.

Your views may be contrary to the liberal, democratic, equality which are fundamental to our society. And those can not be tolerated.

Good to see you go.

@ civwarbuff, the society that you write about, one grounded in (founded on) individual freedom and personal liberty with Justice for all.... is that the WebDiplomacy site or the USA ? Enjoy the freedoms of which you write in "main street USA". Please don't confuse the WebDiplomacy site with Nation States in the real world. To use an analogy, visiting WebDiplomacy is like visiting a private property owned by Kestas & Zultar, and they get to decide things like who is welcome and who is not, they have the right to refuse entry, they have the right to expel visitors who do not meet the standards of behaviour they insist upon. Anyone who "asks to be a member" at WebDiplomacy is "entering into a contractual arrangement" with the site owners. If you don't like the conditions of a contract, don't enter into that contract. Don't agree to a contractual agreement, then refuse to comply with some of the conditions of that contract.

Bigots are prejudiced against people they don't know based on false assumptions.

People who have a long history of posting on the forum have given others plenty of clues about their beliefs and opinions, trolls be damned.

Oh for ghugs sake!
Cut it out.

You know damn well you'll be back and this is just some way to express that you don't like that the mods are moderating. All this is doing is giving a place for your lackies to praise you and for your opponents to call you out. It's pointless. If it's impossible for you to be a part of the forum without slandering someone personally, or going to rhetorical extremes then that's on you.

I've been able to express deviant opinions on this forum that have been deconstructed by liberals and conservatives and because we don't get into deep rhetorical and offensive banter we can have intelligent conversation about the topics.

@civwarbuff you said
"Our society is grounded in individual human freedom and personal liberity with justice for all. I hope that those are the values that you speak of."

That's a nice idea. It does sound a tad libertarian to me.

What is the difference between individual human freedom and personal liberty?

Can a family discipline their child? And what age do children become independent?

Does a corporate entity have rights? Can it be seen as a person deserving freedom?

Can a state built upon these ideals execute it's citizens without trial for being deemed 'potential threats' to state power?

Does justice for all mean certain minorities will be harassed and gunned down by police to the point where they as a whole no longer trust or use police for protection?

Western Liberal Society is a lot of things, but ideal it is not.

"What is the difference between individual human freedom and personal liberty?"

individual human freedom allows you to do anything you want, except when it interferes with someone's personal liberty. personal liberties are secured by the gov't.

"Can a family discipline their child? And what age do children become independent?"

yes; depends on a combination of social norms and legal standings. In America it's considered to be 18.

"Does a corporate entity have rights? Can it be seen as a person deserving freedom?"

A 'corporate entity' is just people who own stuff together, though at different rates of ownership. of course those people's rights don't just disappear because they own something together.

"Can a state built upon these ideals execute it's citizens without trial for being deemed 'potential threats' to state power?"

the state SHOULDN'T be able to (my opinion) but currently they can

"Does justice for all mean certain minorities will be harassed and gunned down by police to the point where they as a whole no longer trust or use police for protection?"

that in no ways is justice for all and you damn well know it.

"Western Liberal Society is a lot of things, but ideal it is not."

agreed
