Scottish MP on trial for lying
Here's a fascinating case. A Member of Parliament actually being taken to court for lying - and in his defence, admitting that he lied, but arguing that's just something politicians do, so he shouldn't be held to account for it.

Playing in the same game with a friend
Is it allowed for me to specifically join a game together with my friend(s), so we can work together and easily dominate a game? It's technically not multying yet I thought there was something against it in the rules.. Can't find it anymore though.

WebDipper wins Netherlands Diplomacy Championship 2015
WebDip regular TheWizard is the new Dutch Champion! Very solid showing by many others - too many to name.

Congrats~! Sounds like an excellent tournament.
It was absolutely great. I played Capt as Italy, but made the mistake of believing him in one turn. It ended badly.

Well done!
And I also pulled a Tin Can while playing Italy, but my Austria was none too pleased. I wanted to stab him, but Lukan (playing Russia) decided to put his fleet in Rum leaving my army Boh to hang around. That game was weird on many levels. I ended up being kicked by A/T, in which Turkey gifted several SCs to Austria for no reason.

It's funny, we get used to a certain way of playing online (rational, efficient, logical, maximising) - but all those rules don't really apply to FTF. Then it's mostly psychology, trust, and likability.

Congrats Wizard! Didn't get to play you this time - maybe we'll play the same board sometime in future.

I didn't do particularly well in this one (topped my first board but then got eliminated twice) but it was still incredibly fun to take part in. The best moment for me, I think, was when I (as Italy) had F GoL and Minister (France) had F MAO and F Mar. I ordered F GoL-Mar and Minister ordered F Mar-Spa and F MAO-Spa - but since F MAO-Spa is ambiguous since no coast was specified, that order was successfully challenged and marked as invalid, so Mar ended up moving to Spa and my fleet got into Marseilles.

After that, Minister was constantly writing "Spain (FUCKING SOUTH COAST)" whenever he had to move there.

Another great moment, although I was not there for this, was Vecna's game 1 German opening of Kie-Ruh, Ber-Den, Mun-Ber. It has officially been named the "Graveyard" opening and I believe Tom Haver said he was going to add it to the Openings Database.

It was my first real tournament and i liked it a lot! I didnt got to play TheMinisterofWar, and Captainmeme and TheWizard were on the other side of the boards for me. So i did not talked a lot with them :).

It was very well organised by TMOW. So cudo's to him...

Nice, congrats on the win Wizard! Nice that this is organised.

In view of so many Dutch Webdippers joining that event.. Would it be fun to set up a somewhat high quality classic full press WTA Dutch game? In Dutch of course..
Vecna's opening was awesomely weird. First move of the tourney and our whole board - Vecna included - was just blinking in disbelief. If I'm not mistaken he still scored shared top board that game.

Re: fucking south coast.

I'd have not interpreted that as ambiguous, but the intention or spirit of the orders was clear. (And if the fleet was going to bounce, it didn't matter which coast it was attempting to go to) Of course it would be invalid if MAO had accidentally succeeded in moving there.

Still tournament rules are probably not the same as my house rules.

Kie-Ruh, Ber-Den, Mun-Ber? So basically Kie-Ruh, Ber H, Mun H? That's nearly as good as the "party in York" English opening.
@ora: somebody else was TDing my table, but I would have made the same ruling. MAO-Spa with no coast specified is always ambiguous and hence invalid. I've seen players (also this tourney) give invalid orders *intentionally*, so as a rule TDs should not try to read intention in the orders, only check whether they are valid or not.

@Mrcs: are you Dutch? Where were you? ;-)

In addition to what TM said - if I had instead entered F GoL S MAO-Spa, then since TM's order MAO-Spa had no coast specified but would go through with the support, it would have to be counted as invalid. It doesn't make sense to count the order as valid in one situation but invalid in another, so it needs to be invalid in both.

Why the college football Playoff committee should be fired
Biggest cause for concern I have in year 2 of this so called "system" is that for the first 4 weeks of these people sitting down to rank everyone they come up with even worse logic than the coaches and AP polls.
I realize you cant get everything right all the time, but this years first ranking feels more like a house of cards just begging to be knocked down.
