Scottish MP on trial for lying
Here's a fascinating case. A Member of Parliament actually being taken to court for lying - and in his defence, admitting that he lied, but arguing that's just something politicians do, so he shouldn't be held to account for it.

Hilariously B.O.G. received the banhammer today. I vote we have a game in to celebrate his passing / mourn his loss / thank the Mods for purging him from our midsts.

Playing in the same game with a friend
Is it allowed for me to specifically join a game together with my friend(s), so we can work together and easily dominate a game? It's technically not multying yet I thought there was something against it in the rules.. Can't find it anymore though.

Facts based discussion on climate change
Nobody denies that the earth changes. Mountains form with shifting plate tectonics. We had an Ice Age, and then the Ice Age went away. All without man on the earth. Yes, climate changes. Let’s have a facts based discussion on climate change.

Would it be possible to make a new kind of CD?
Would it be possible to make some sort of interconnected CD-rule between games? Fx if you CD in one game every other game you're playing where you have the first NMR you're kicked instantly without waiting for the second?

Creating a new game
I am hoping to start a new game to play just with a few friends of mine around the country. I haven't created my own game before. Is there any way I can restrict who can join a game I create to make sure only my friends can join?

Why the college football Playoff committee should be fired
Biggest cause for concern I have in year 2 of this so called "system" is that for the first 4 weeks of these people sitting down to rank everyone they come up with even worse logic than the coaches and AP polls.
I realize you cant get everything right all the time, but this years first ranking feels more like a house of cards just begging to be knocked down.

Instability / locking issues
Hi all, see within for details about recent downtime

As I understand there have been increasing issues with the site performing slowly. It looks like it was due to the database size getting too big for the DB engine we were using (MyISAM), and so we've just migrated several key tables to the new default engine InnoDB (which game related tables were already using).

Hopefully this will resolve the performance issues, but I'd appreciate people letting me know here if they experience any problems like frequent deadlocks or other such errors (since the alternative engine is not a silver bullet, but should be able to handle issues better).

I am hoping that we can remain using the same system we've been using with the growing database, and don't have to archive old data or upgrade our server at a cost to the donors who keep the site running. If the problems persist though we will have to consider which of these options would be best, and I'll talk with the team about that.

Anyway thanks for the patience, let us know if you have any issues (or experience any improvement)

Cheers,
Kestas

Yes, really weird, I noticed that too.
orathaic (1009 D(B))

As to the archiving option. Can you push old games and forum threads to a seperate database (say over two years old) and... Hmm statuistics. Maybe average the stats from old games and add them to current user profile ( so that uptodate stats are derived from the recent games db plus previously calculated totals... Actually that depends on how you derive the stats at the moment i guess)

It will take a bit of architecture work, but if the db rngine is smart maybe it sorts by most recently touched files and doesn't have to check the whole db for each query (now that i think about the the db engine is probably pretty smart... I still imagine a marked improvement)

I've never pushed the limits of a db engine this far, so i'd be interested to hear what you think.

One issue, there is a live game that is full at 7 players and the time at which it was supposed to start has passed but it is frozen at NOW. Is there an update on the time the games will be processed again?

Or will this game be canceled?
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

That game will be cancelled when the game server is up and running again. All other games will have time added on to make up for the current downtime.
