Being a stand up ally!!!
I know diplomacy was originally designed as a game to win, but this site and the points and GR seemed to have changed the way you can look at the game.
How do people feel about being a good ally? For example, 5 player left in a game m and 3 are on one side while two are on the other. It's pretty much a stalemate unless one of the sides is willing to stab the other. Should one always stab, or is there something to be said about being a good ally to the end?

Alcohol prohibition in Kerala

Now where have we seen that tried and failed ...... grow up India.
Ever considered the reason why there seems to be a problem is because people like drinking alcohol and that's why the ban won't work dickheads

American Empire Anomaly
Howdy folks,

I've noticed that all the Fall of the American Empire IV games are either extremely fast (5 minute rounds) or extremely slow (3 day rounds). Could anyone explain the apparent disinterest in 1-day-round games for this variant?

AEST live game 9am tomorrow morning?
Living in Australia, it's hard to get in to many live games. Would there be interest in a Sunday morning AEST live game tomorrow? (that's the east coast of Australia for those playing at home).

A guide to not being gullible
I am playing a game currently where a player is believing that his "ally" won't stab him even though his ally is well on their way to a solo and the gullible player is tied up fighting me. I am trying to organize against the solo threat but gullible prevails. Any tips for gullible players?

Tip 1: Do not discuss ongoing games in the forum.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
22 Aug 14 UTC
Tip 2: Technically VirtualBob's tip only applies to gunboats and, to some extent, anon games. If it's a normal press game there's no reason not to discuss it on the forum.

Tip 3: Don't play PPSC.

Unless the game is full press non anon, there should be no discussion on the forum.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)

Well there's really no rule against discussing anonymous games, just limited press ones. Though it is frowned upon.

By whom and why is it frowned upon .... what's the problem?

It's considered poor sport to get outside help on a game that's ongoing. Many members have been quite vocal in expressing that they feel allowing any type of mentoring or influencing a game via forum discussions is unfair.

I personally don't care, and it's not a rule.
Jamiet99uk (808 D)
22 Aug 14 UTC
For anyone who thinks it is unfair to offer advice on ongoing games via the forum, I have the solution:

Join the thread yourself and contribute some *really* BAD advice. You'll feel better and the players involved might think twice about asking the peanut gallery for help next time.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
22 Aug 14 UTC
Asking for specific advice is bad if for no other reason than your enemies will know you have no idea what's going on. If you have a specific question, you should ask in private. Forum should be reserved for general questions.

OP, wait until they get stabbed... and prepare to loose.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
22 Aug 14 UTC
I'm not asking advice I'm asking for general idea of how people deal with similar problems. I didn't provide any details on my game even though it is a full press non anon. I am aware of the rules here. Now back to my OP how do people handle this usually? I have my strategy, give long detailed explanations of why X shouldn't ally with Y

And just realize that not everyone has common sense enough to stay out of a trap that you see but they don't.

This is a decent general discussion to have.

First, you can only go so far in explaining and being nice to get a player to come around. Maybe offer them something they really want for peace?

Second, on a more general question of how to avoid being hoodwinked, I'm curious what red flags people look for.

Generally, I worry about "too good to be true" offers, explanations that don't really add up, and players that are too demanding of knowing what I am doing specifically, unless we are planning a joint move set as allies. I know some people don't like positive yet vague answers ("sounds good!")

Bottom line, always analyze your ally's possible moves as if the were going to stab you each turn and make sure that your units are placed to defend against a stab. The harder it is to stab you, the less likely it is someone will stab you.

As

I'm looking to start a classic game with 3-5 day phases. I'm currently thinking about a 100+ point buy-in, but I can definitely bend on that. I only ask that you be able to explain any CDs on your record as either a live game or some sort of extenuating circumstance. Anyone interested?

Convoying a Retreating unit
Suppose an English army unit is at Holland and is attacked by German unit from Kiel with support from Ruhr and Belgium. In normal case it is forced to disband because it doesn't have anywhere to retreat to.
But what if we allow the English fleet at north sea to convoy the retreating army unit to some place; say Edinburgh?
Is this feasible? If yes, then how will it affect the game overall?
