2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, V FOR VENDETTA and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA MOVE ON.
Now onto the tie. As I have said, in this variant the GM will break ties. Allow me to give reasoning as to why this is preferable to sudden death (as rng just seems sort of cheap):
1. It's much quicker and straightforward. Some sudden deaths have taken hours to come through, seemingly holding up the next round as everyone waits in suspense. This makes an easy instant adjudication.
2. It fits within the rules easier. When the phase ends the phase ends, made this very clear in the rules. Why should someone who chose not to vote during the 2 day period get to decide it rather than someone who did.
3. Who is making the decision. Let's look at the comparative, given that most people who actually care about the tournament probably vote in the 48 hour period, the most likely people to break a tie are likely people passing through who have very little stake and care little for the tournament and may just vote on a whim. Seems weird to give them that power, probably better to give it to someone who cares and is around most of the time, like the GM.
For those who think this is an abuse of power or something like that cause viva la vox populi allow me to make the following arguments:
1. I clearly already had this power in the nominations process, for seeding this was a rule:
"5. Seed groups first by number of seconds and then by the algorithm and my personal preference if it is too close to call."
Clear precedent for me being able to break ties, and I had to do so. I also gave myself power to change rules if stuff wasn't working, guess what, I exercised that.
2. This is literally in marginal cases used to make the tournament run smoother, my vote is marginally more powerful than everyone else's, not surprising given all the time and effort I put into making this and organizing everything. You know how hard seeding everything and figuring out a fair way to do so.
3. It makes little sense to shift this authority elsewhere. I understand the reasons for doing sudden death, but I already explained why that shouldn't be the case. If you have an alternative idea, please, inform me. Anyway, sorry for not typing this out before, I thought I did.
Fell free to send any further claims to me. Anyway this means that in a tie-breaker, BEN HUR moves on.
