Minimum players in classic game
Hi all, my first time creating a game on my own. Is there a way to set the game to only 4 or 5 players for a private game? I didn't see any option and it shows "game will start when all 7 players have joined" now. Thanks for any help!!

I really want to review all the messages I sent to someone, but the history logs appear limited. Are they just gone, or is there any way to see the full message logs with a player from a game?

Question concerning game rules (pms)
Hi there! I need a public and official reply by a MODERATOR.
If you play a match without anonymous players, but even without private chat (only team chat): Is it allowed to write the other players private messages in order to negotiate? In my opinion everbody see the names of the other players and everybody can write to the other players, so it is a fair system. It is a very important part of this game to negotiate, you know.
How are the official rules?

The Last Known World Game
I just finished up the second to last Known World game, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=187834, on 36 hour phases, which we probably played a few years further than we might have for that honor. This leaves one 10-day phase game in a still relatively early state, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=187877

Also considering I had authority to change rules in the nomination process, that probably also holds for the actual tournament.

ADJUDICATOR NOTE: I didn't change any rules. I made a statement about what I thought the end should be based on the rules at hand. If a rule isn't explicitly stated and the parties aren't aware of it, then that means the rule doesn't exist. I also distinctly remember previous tournaments breaking ties by going into a sudden death round.

Political turmoil in the movie tournament thread!!
GM Note: Doesn't matter, we didn't have seconds before in the nomination process. Precedent clearly can be changed. Also, I made the tournament, I need some perks.

Are you gonna start charging us to come to the private club in Florida where you decide these things?
Bladerunners (722 D)
03 May 17 UTC
TrPrado should have zero say in anything - says he is a film buff, took film classes and thinks Fury Road better than Original Mad Max. Makes me want to cry. Fury Road shouldn't even be considered a top film - it was a joke of a movie.
Bladerunners (722 D)
03 May 17 UTC
and TrPrado - am i really upset - no - having fun - but you are wrong :-)
TrPrado (461 D)
03 May 17 UTC
I never claimed to be a film buff. I just actively claimed Zmaj claiming himself to be one is bullshit.
TrPrado (461 D)
03 May 17 UTC
Also it's not an unpopular opinion even amongst those who are considerably well-versed in film.
Also if the rule doesn't exist, the GM likely has the discretion to decide, given it's their job...
Bladerunners (722 D)
03 May 17 UTC
most people well versed in film probably didn't make the mistake I did of going to see Fury Road.
TrPrado (461 D)
03 May 17 UTC
Most people well-versed in film liked Fury Road. You're in the minority on this. Also, the next matchups started so if y'all could get Citizen Kane and Casablanca untied it'd be nice.
Bladerunners (722 D)
03 May 17 UTC
TrPrado - most people aged 20 and younger doesn't equal most people....

Well if Vashta is going to pull a bullshit move like that then I am out. Screw this. He gets to vote once in the game and then vote to break the tie? Wtf.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))
03 May 17 UTC
I am fine with Vash voting and breaking the tie; only until the sweet 16. at sweet 16 i think vash should have some alternative. but right now? these are the whatever matches and really dont warrant serious drama. especially considering vash is organizing, running, and maintaining this for the community.
OFFICIAL FINAL VOTE TALLY

GROUP A
BEN HUR: 9
APOLLO 13: 9

GROUP B
SCOTT PILGRIM: 8
BIG TROUBLE: 10

GROUP C
GONE GIRL: 6
V FOR VENDETTA: 11

GROUP D:
2001: 11
Mad Max:8

As such
2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, V FOR VENDETTA and BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA MOVE ON.

Now onto the tie. As I have said, in this variant the GM will break ties. Allow me to give reasoning as to why this is preferable to sudden death (as rng just seems sort of cheap):
1. It's much quicker and straightforward. Some sudden deaths have taken hours to come through, seemingly holding up the next round as everyone waits in suspense. This makes an easy instant adjudication.
2. It fits within the rules easier. When the phase ends the phase ends, made this very clear in the rules. Why should someone who chose not to vote during the 2 day period get to decide it rather than someone who did.
3. Who is making the decision. Let's look at the comparative, given that most people who actually care about the tournament probably vote in the 48 hour period, the most likely people to break a tie are likely people passing through who have very little stake and care little for the tournament and may just vote on a whim. Seems weird to give them that power, probably better to give it to someone who cares and is around most of the time, like the GM.

For those who think this is an abuse of power or something like that cause viva la vox populi allow me to make the following arguments:

1. I clearly already had this power in the nominations process, for seeding this was a rule:

"5. Seed groups first by number of seconds and then by the algorithm and my personal preference if it is too close to call."

Clear precedent for me being able to break ties, and I had to do so. I also gave myself power to change rules if stuff wasn't working, guess what, I exercised that.

2. This is literally in marginal cases used to make the tournament run smoother, my vote is marginally more powerful than everyone else's, not surprising given all the time and effort I put into making this and organizing everything. You know how hard seeding everything and figuring out a fair way to do so.

3. It makes little sense to shift this authority elsewhere. I understand the reasons for doing sudden death, but I already explained why that shouldn't be the case. If you have an alternative idea, please, inform me. Anyway, sorry for not typing this out before, I thought I did.

Fell free to send any further claims to me. Anyway this means that in a tie-breaker, BEN HUR moves on.

Anyway Current Vote Tallies for the new round are:
GROUP A:

CITIZEN KANE: 1
NETWORK: 1

GROUP B:
CASABLANCA: 1
NAKED GUN: 1

GROUP C:
DAS BOOT: 1
ICE COLD IN ALEX: 0

GROUP D:
THE MATRIX: 2
INTERSTELLAR: 0

I love matrix and that vote is really hard. But I feel interstellar is by far a superior science-fiction in that it deals heavily with real science. I can be swayed however and look forward to arguments.
