Help! I'm new!
Hi everyone, I just joined this site a couple days ago. I understand relatively how to play Diplomacy, but I've only played in real life before. Typically, I've never been able to round up many friends to play the game because it takes so long, but I've played some games. Can anyone direct me to any resources so I can learn to play better? Sorry if there was a post like this, but I couldn't find it.

MLB Playoffs
Well fellas, we're down to the last day. The Mariners' drought continues, the Cards continue to somehow stay in it, the Jays thank the Lord finally get a win to push them to the #1 spot. The Nats also clinched home field advantage over the Dodgers.

Any WS predictions? Is it really the Cubs' year? Can the Dodgers finally make it? Who's going to surprise? My money is on the Jays duelling it out with the Giants, but of course I have a strong bias. What do you all think?

ND, he has never been elected to anything, but to use your words, I'm not concerned with ancient history, I am concerned with 2016, a year during which he is *running* for something, and that something happens to be President of the United Fucking States. He can bring corruption from his life into office without having been a politician, and he will.

He cannot run his companies any way he wants, just as I cannot run my company any way I want. I cannot evade taxes for decades. I cannot start fraudulent businesses that rob people of their life savings. I cannot stiff clients out of the pay I owe them. He can't do any of those things either, but lo and behold, he has a lot of money moving in and out that he can mooch from when he needs one of the world's best lawyers, so despite the fact that he can't, he runs his businesses any way he pleases. It is immoral at best and illegal at worst.

When Clinton, Bush, or Obama do something wrong, you are exactly right. When Donald Trump does something wrong as things are today, he makes a lot of noise on TV and a few people get screwed. As President, if he does something wrong, then he faces the exact same consequences as Clinton, Bush, or Obama. Do you underestimate his power while harping on the power that past POTUSes have had? Do you think his power would be any less? He isn't just "one person in the private sector" as President.

hahahaha that's funny, b/c i'm less pissed off about her supporting Iraq. people say "there were so many testimonies saying there were no weapons" of mass destruction

2015: WMDs were in fact in Iraq at the time.

Iraq was an absolute failure of a war. Those that supported it that weren't misled about exactly what they were supporting (Clinton probably doesn't fall into that group) should be at the very least alienated from political power.

I despise Clinton's warmongering. On the other hand, Trump displayed himself entirely lacking in actual foreign policy knowledge during the debates. So we're essentially guaranteed to have another absolutely shitty foreign policy for the next 4 years, and the question is if you want someone who knows what they're doing in that field and making bad decisions or someone who's entirely incompetent in that sphere.
JamesYanik (548 D)

@bo

We should have gone into Iraq sooner, and more effectively. He was killing tens of thousands of civilians with chemical weapons. the UN pussied out, and Britain and the USA stepped up.

and we tripped. nonetheless, I still maintain we needed to go in. When we have the power that our nation possesses, and we have dictators mocking us, and killing their civilians, we WAITED for the UN. it's a mess, but don't pretend keeping Saddam in power would by any means be better than today - maybe in the realm of domestic terrorism, though that's so volatile i doubt that as well
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

I disagree, Prado. I would argue that Clinton would continue Obama's path, at least for 4 years. Of course, I don't necessarily think that the pivot to Asia is anything other than a "shitty foreign policy," but it sure looks better than the multitude of problems we made ourselves in the Middle East on paper.

@brainbomb

she messed up. she put America at risk. she put our soldiers at risk. why? to make things simpler for her job. it. disgusts. me.
ND (879 D)

@Bo: No. A President Trump would be an outsider, an agent of change, someone who can end the past 28 years of the status quo. Hopefully someone who can make peace with Russia, shore-up NATO, end ISIS, protect our borders, reform the tax code, bring prosperity back, etc.

I don't believe he is as corrupt in his business practices as the Mainstream Media suggests. If he was he wouldn't have 500 companies and he would have been ousted a long time ago by his business partners and shareholders. I think a lot of it is BS.

Trump is a low-risk candidate, change agent, that embodies positivism and opportunity for every American.

Clinton is a high-risk candidate, criminal, that can create a constitutional crisis if she is indicted and put in jail before she is sworn in and if she isn't indicted then there will be years of investigations, scandals, and potentially jail. She is corruption personified.

I agree, Yanik, but I also disagree. We should have gone in with a plan. Once they took out Saddam, they didn't have one. Same with the Taliban in Afghanistan. Bush could have led us in and out of both nations within the 6-ish years he had if he and his generals had prepared better.

By the way, MEUs are awesome. The Marines are some of the most selfless people in the military.

ND, you really don't have a great understanding of business. When you have money, no matter where it comes from, you can create as many shill businesses as you want. Shill businesses *make money,* and the Trump name is free branding and advertising. It is a wonder that any business with the name and funding that Trump attaches to it can fail as miserably as some of his have.

As for his qualifications to be President, you aren't worth arguing with. Your vote is your vote. Too bad you and nearly half of America are using it so stupidly.

Well I am pretty sure Trump will win in a few days. The FBI criminal probe is groundbreaking. Trump isn't facing a criminal probe by the FBI. I know a lot of you wish he was (for some reason). It's okay though. On Nov 9, Trump will be President Elect and we can finally get back on the right track.

webDiplomacy continues to lose players
The number of players listed each month in the Ghostratings continues to decline. Every year, there is a peak around May/June. We peaked in 2011 with 3,571 players, and steadily lost players from then to now (if you don't count the 2013-2014 inflated numbers anomaly). This last May peak we hit 2,503. At this rate, I figure there will be seven of us left in 2029.

Frostweaver's Personal Comments on Live Gunboat-483
Just a note: I'm not playing in the game, just spectating and inputting my personal comments on the game's moves.

Classic opening moves were made by all countries - except for Turkey. Seems Turkey is susceptible to Russian retaliation from the Black Sea. Also quite interesting how Britain and France strayed away from the English Channel.

I've discovered a bot that allows you to play chess on a Facebook Chat page using algebraic notation. Could someone conceivably create a Diplomacy adjudicator for a Facebook chat page? It might make Diplomacy more accessible as you can easily play with your friends without worrying for phase length, pauses etc. Would this be in any way possible? It's just a thought.
