Help! I'm new!
Hi everyone, I just joined this site a couple days ago. I understand relatively how to play Diplomacy, but I've only played in real life before. Typically, I've never been able to round up many friends to play the game because it takes so long, but I've played some games. Can anyone direct me to any resources so I can learn to play better? Sorry if there was a post like this, but I couldn't find it.

MLB Playoffs
Well fellas, we're down to the last day. The Mariners' drought continues, the Cards continue to somehow stay in it, the Jays thank the Lord finally get a win to push them to the #1 spot. The Nats also clinched home field advantage over the Dodgers.

Any WS predictions? Is it really the Cubs' year? Can the Dodgers finally make it? Who's going to surprise? My money is on the Jays duelling it out with the Giants, but of course I have a strong bias. What do you all think?

I don't even compare Trump to Nazis and he literally promotes fascist ideals on the regular.

@Brain: The people who oppose criminal intent are heroes. People who oppose Hillary's criminal actions are heroes. You can make a historical connection from the people, today, who oppose criminal actions (Hillary Clinton) to the people of the past who opposed criminal actions (people who voted against Nixon, people who opposed Hitler, people who led the dissident movement in the former Soviet Union, etc).

CRIMINALITY should never be rewarded.

Uh ND. The British opposed our illegal rebellion. We won. The native americans are heroes too they are still fighting against illegal activity in ND(not you lol)

And yet we are guaranteed to elect one of two people who perform illegal acts.

You see everything as heroes fighting vs criminals. Thats your problem. You see democrats as evil policy driven corrupt animals. Its simply not true.

@Brainbomb: There are various levels of criminality. The Democratic Party, seemingly is corrupt at the top most level. This was shown through wikileaks in regards to the DNC's corruption in aiding Hillary over Bernie. Hillary is also under FBI criminal investigation.

I am sure many democrats are good people and not criminals, but at the top level there is a lot of evidence to suggest corruption and criminality.

Corruption under that definition should include Dick Cheney and halliburton too. Wasnt the Iraq war a conflict of interest for him as a business practice?

@brainbomb

the GOP has bias to make the emails literal alliances with satan, that she stole from our intelligence agencies and tattooed to her exposed chest THE WHORE

the Dems have bias to make the emails a simple misunderstanding, and purely consisting of wedding plans for her daughter impregnated by immaculate conception

what i see:
- she had a private server with classified material, and zero state encryption protocols.
- not all the material was properly labeled: but some was. so she KNEW she had classified data on a private server.
- the FBI requests all of her emails, but she deletes many. Now she claims it was ALL just wedding plans: still classifiably obstruction of justice

which of those 3 steps do you specifically look at and say, "not a big deal"

b/c THAT is all i'm arguing. those 3 things. point em out

Halliburton made huge profits of Iraq while were massively in debt.
ND (879 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
You can make that case. There is some evidence to suggest that certain contractors were favored and the reasons for entry into Iraq are dubious/misleading at best. I am not concerned with ancient history (right now) though. I am concerned with 2016 right now though.

ND, everyone that isn't a total idiot knows that the Democrats are corrupt. What's new? Since when aren't the Republicans? Since when does Donald Trump not practice a few ... uh, shady ... business tactics? Everyone at the top is a corrupted, criminal douchebag.

Thats been proven in the depositions. Yer talking sean hannity garble at this point. I dont care if she had 100 private servers. You know how cheap a vpn is?

Are Trump's business practices and other criminal behaviors that we have constantly pointed out to you somehow okay because he isn't a lifelong politician? He is still running for the most powerful office in the world.

Remember after Katrina anyone?

Bush gave legal authorized private contractors to be deputized for riot control.

Republicans have evil people, Republicans have stupid people. Democrats have evil people, Democrats have stupid people.

@James: You forgot that physical evidence went missing at the FBI and that bleach bit was used to permanently scrub the emails. *thankfully* Weiner had a deadman switch and back up of everything (allegedly) lol.

You have to seriously be a bigot to think just because shes a democrat that she was doing some super illegal shit. Thats nonsense stereotyping
JamesYanik (548 D)

@brainbomb

i agree with Halliburton, I got some more crazy conspiracy theories about them

BUT:

"Every one of them yanik because I still dont care, never have, never will. Sge sat there for 18 hours. The email wipe was an accident too. He deleted the wrong shit."

deleted the wrong shit? that was in December of 2014, when Comey requested ALL emails from gov't employees. That was a different incident, that led to this incident. There were MORE email wipes discovered well after March of 2016.

Secondly: not even the fact she had zero protection for her server? really? as someone who has studied cryptography, the history of our cyber-defense, and how the government classifies operations:

I am horrified. As SoS, she could have had military operations that were still active sent to her: in fact she did get military operation emails, but they were low-risk. For all we know the deleted emails had some high-risk information.

@Bo: I have already said that a case can be made for the Bush Administration. I am not defending that, but I am not concerned with ancient history. Last time I checked (let me check again) oh yep! Trump has never been elected to anything.

He can run his companies anyway he wants and if he fails or makes bad choices then the markets will punish him, lawsuits will punish him, shareholders will punish him.

When Clinton/Bush/Obama do something wrong then it puts American lives at risk. If they have dirty deals it builds corruption into the system. When they make a mistake abroad we lose prestige, we lose lives, we lose period. When they enter a war then millions are displaced/die/wounded/injured. Billions are lost. Their friends and lobbyists benefit at the cost of the taxpayer. I could go on and on.

To compare one person in the private sector that can be and has been punished accordingly for bad practices to corrupt and deranged elected officials is unfair and you know it.

bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Frankly, the fact that she as Secretary of State supported war in just about every corner of the universe should scare people a lot more than emails, no matter what they contained. That in itself suggests corruption.
JamesYanik (548 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
And does everyone forget, Guccifer indpenedantly verified Clinton's sever's lack of security, before it officially came out that it was inadequate.

He's in jail now, but there is every chance he got in.

@Brainbomb

you think ALL the deleted emails were her wedding plans? and I'M NAIVE???

webDiplomacy continues to lose players
The number of players listed each month in the Ghostratings continues to decline. Every year, there is a peak around May/June. We peaked in 2011 with 3,571 players, and steadily lost players from then to now (if you don't count the 2013-2014 inflated numbers anomaly). This last May peak we hit 2,503. At this rate, I figure there will be seven of us left in 2029.

Frostweaver's Personal Comments on Live Gunboat-483
Just a note: I'm not playing in the game, just spectating and inputting my personal comments on the game's moves.

Classic opening moves were made by all countries - except for Turkey. Seems Turkey is susceptible to Russian retaliation from the Black Sea. Also quite interesting how Britain and France strayed away from the English Channel.

Facebook Diplomacy
I've discovered a bot that allows you to play chess on a Facebook Chat page using algebraic notation. Could someone conceivably create a Diplomacy adjudicator for a Facebook chat page? It might make Diplomacy more accessible as you can easily play with your friends without worrying for phase length, pauses etc. Would this be in any way possible? It's just a thought.
