How does one report a dubious competitor?
I'm in a game where one player is making moves that help another player, after that player attacked him from the first move. It may not be outright cheating, but it is certainly against the spirit of the rules. I would like an administrator to look into it.

To Cathlics - Resigning as Voice of God?
OK...I thought it was, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me..." and the Pope, who --- isn't he like the Voice of God on earth?? -- is too tired to go on? Errr...it isn't about his strength...it's supposed to be about Christ's strength, isn't it? How disappointing is this to Catholics?

What new features would you like to see on WebDip?
Think of this as a wishlist. Please be constructive and positive. I think it would be really good if we can come up with a solid list of 6-10 things that we can slowly work on to improve the site.

One more thing - especially for us cell phone players - a toggle to denote if a Forum post is game related or a community discussion. Love the threads, but sometimes I would like to filter to just the game messages to get my Dip on... Just a thought....

How about a "resign game" button, so someone who knows he has to leave a game doesn't have to miss two(?) turns before he has left and can be replaced? (New here, so I'm not sure if there is another way to resign.)
"Resign Game" button - That would be good, provided it counted as a "Resigned" in a players stats if no replacement player was found before the player actually went CD. Games where players have hit the "Resign Game" should be given priority in the "Games | Joinable" section. The game could also "Auto Hold" your units rather than making everyone wait for the game clock to end the turn.

Downside: players near your units would know you were about to CD and give their orders accordingly - if you then UnResign you'd finesse them into making different moves. Perhaps a player who Resigns can't be allowed to UnResign? Resigning when you're down to just a couple of SCs would have to be frowned upon. More than frowned upon actually. Resigning when you have relatively low numbers of SCs would have to show up as a CDing in your stats, so people could create games you couldn't join because you CD'd too often (assuming that join-filter option gets coded in).

If you CD you should get a resign even if someone replaces your country, or if you get killed. Rather cheap way out of having the resign on your record.

On PlayDip you can select more than one country to message at the same time. I like that feature. Not sure if it was mentioned in an earlier post. I just looked at the summary here.

And I love philcore's risky suggestions up above.

Mobile-friendly site or an API for writing mobile apps. :)
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
26 Jan 13 UTC
1. Mobile-friendly site or app (if any of the mods/admins/developers have the time and resources to make a decent app)

2. A new map variant or two, just to keep things fresh. I can't be the only one who wants to keep playing on this site but is getting bored with the three map choices. (Dynamic maps and the "Fog of War" variant are of interest to me)

3. Fix some issues with the World map. I've heard that it has been buggy in the past. I have no specific complaints, but someone who has played a lot of World games should look into it.

4. !!!!<ORIGINAL SUGGESTION>!!!!

There should be some sort of "Repeat Orders" button. Towards the end of the game, when I have ten or more units, and I'm support holding myself all over the place waiting for someone to get eliminated so we can draw, I'm inputting the same orders in the Diplomacy phase over and over and over again. Some sort of function that would repeat the orders you had in the last Diplomacy phase would save a lot of time and would probably be easy to code. Just something to think about, and would probably be especially handy in live games.

Repeat moves is a great suggestion. Would love for the default order to be the same as last turn or a toggle to repeat orders. Not bad to have a toggle to clear all orders either.
Those are good ideas:-
Fog of War variant +1
Repeat last orders +1
Clear all orders +1

What is/are "Dynamic Maps"?
Ooooh fog of war, reminds me of crystal ball vriant, that would be so great to have!! That's really the best variant I have ever played. Any other addicts here?

TD power, integration of tournament rules, and the ability to automatically extract the results of a given game (so, when given a game id output of: #SC per player, player name and id, result (solo/draw/canceled), winner name/drawer names, WTA/PPSC - this being to facilitate automatic calculations of tournament positions.)
orathaic (1009 D(B))

I like the idea of doing crystal ball orders with two move phases difference - I think i'd enjoy a nice gunboat where you have to enter all moves, retreats, and builds immediately, and then get to add moves for S1902 once you see S1901 revealed...
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

@ SpeakerTo Aliens

I don't know if "dynamic maps" is the correct terminology but I remember reading somewhere a long time ago a variant where certain areas and supply centers of the map would gradually be rendered unusable, for example an Ice Age variant where the northern areas would become unusable at a certain point, so for example St. Petersburg may become unusable in 1902 and Moscow unusable in 1904, as if an ice wall was working its way south. Also a global warming variant where coastal areas would gradually be unusable due to being underwater.

The only big problem, is, of course that certain countries could potentially be screwed over due to their geographic location.

I'm probably explaining all of this like a dumbass, so do some research on your own.

My best suggestions were the Repeat Orders button and the Fog of War variant.
@orathaic I've done quite a few crystal ball games, they are really good. They really capture the feel of guiding a slow and cumbersome army, who only reacts on a lag. I'd love to see it combined with a fog of war, that would really make for an interesting game.
@Gunfighter06 I've seen quite a few of those variants as well. The ones I saw which were quite good were:
- flooding maps (where all land eventually becomes sea, except for Switzerland which becomes an occupyable SC. Victor is the person who manages to live by getting Switzerland in the last year).
- Desertification. Basically the opposite of above, though I forgot what the victory criteria were.

All in all though, I am much more in favour of structural improvements of Webdip rather than adding new variants. I'd much prefer the best possible Standard experience above a merely average experience of all sorts of variants.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

@ TheMinisterOfWar

Yeah, like I said, it was just an idea. I would also like to see structural improvements over new variants, but I would like to see one or two more variants if the mods can do it.

My best idea was the "Repeat Orders" button.

+1 to repeat orders, Fog of War, and navigation buttons on bottom of thread

How about:
First turn NMR protection: If someone NMR's in Spring 1901 game is automatically drawn or cancelled with NMR'er(s) getting resign(s).

Fixing the bug that adjudicates whether the game is won or not before the Fall retreats are adjudicated.
I another thread the idea popped up for a pool of funding to support more structurally developments of the code. I thought it was a great idea, I'd happily pay quite a bit if I knew it was paying towards certain improvements. What say you all?

@TMoW - Then we run into tax issues, especially as the volunteer devs are from a variety of countries and the license of the software would have to be altered no longer being a GNU-like public license developed in the public domain. No, paying the devs is a bad idea for this site.
Alderian (2425 D(S))

Plus being paid to work on webdip would be a lot less fun then doing it for fun.

There has been a long hiatus in development other than the language translation because of the extent of those changes. Now that Kestas has that done we can once again move forward.

For myself, I should hopefully finally have internet at home again next week at which point I can download his new code and re-implement my previously submitted changes and resubmit them and then start looking at other things on this list.

Wrestling Dropped from Olympic Games.

I don't understand how canoeing, handball, badminton, taekwondo, and table tennis can survive as "core sports", but wrestling, that most traditional of Olympic sports, gets placed on par with wakeboarding, roller sports, and squash.
