An All-Male Discussion on Feminism, "Feminism," and Atheism...This Should Be Fun...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKKQdJR7F_I Frankly, I think that's a fair point--these people do NOT represent a very good side of either feminism or atheism, in my opinion...there's Feminism, and then there's "Feminism" or, as it might otherwise be put, "Demanding that everyone agree with your views full stop or else libeling them." Real feminism and real atheism is, I think, being somewhat "poisoned" by this increasingly-smug, self-assured band of PC Police.

CD or hold everything?
I'm in a gunboat at the moment where one of the players - who has no shot at winning anymore - has decided to hold every turn giving SCs to the largest player, in effect throwing the game. I'd prefer if he would just CD so we can get somebody else. Are there any (un)written good practices?

Ranking the Presidents of the last 100 years.
This thread is intended to accurately analyse the presidents of the last 100 years. Beginning with Woodrow Wilson.

Here is the list of presidents based on final month in office approval rating. Since non of us where there at the time, its hard to fully judge who is best. Since we remember all of the good and the bad about presidents like Obama and Bush, but non of the bad of some presidents and non of the good of others.

Roosevelt: 61%
Truman: 32%
Eisenhower: 59%
Kennedy: 59%
Johnson: 46%
Nixon: 23%
Ford: 53% (this is the most shocking of them, given that Ford lost an election with a>then 50% AR)
Carter: 32%
Reagan: 57%
HWBush: 49% (He bounced 15% the month after he lost the election, lol)
Clinton: 62%
WBush: 30%

Source Gallup polls, since of all the major polling companies they had the most data on earlier presidents (Gallup goes back to 1935, none of the others do)

So rating residents based on how the people they governed viewed them:
1. Clinton
2. Roosevelt
3. Eisenhower
3. Kennedy
5. Reagan
6. Ford
7. HWBush
8. Johnson
9. Truman
9. Carter
11. WBush
12. Nixon

So we have 4 presidents who we don't know the approval rating of. Wilson, Coolridge, Harding and Hoover.

I'm going to put Harding below Nixon, because hes ranked as the worst president of all time by the aggegates according to wikipedia. I'm going to put Coolridge above Reagan because they were both strongly elected, retired and their VPs were both strongly elected, following it. I'm ranking Coolridge first because his VP won by a higher vote margin. I'm ranking Wilson tied with Truman because both of the where extremely popular war time presidents who when their wars ended saw their popularity drop, whether it was justified or not. Both of their parties lost in the following election after they stepped down. Lastly we have Hoover, I'm going to put him below Carter and Bush because they all left office with massive unemployments and in Carter and Hoovers case they both lost their reelection bid.

So here is, based on the oppinion of the people they governed, the rakings of the presidents in the last 100 years. Feel free to move around the placement of the earlier presidents since I'm just using an educated guess as to where they would have fallen, as long as you can justify the movements. Like a lot of people here hated Coolridge, but that doesn't negate the fact that he was a well liked president by his people.

1. Clinton
2. Roosevelt
3. Eisenhower
3. Kennedy
5. Coolridge
6. Reagan
7. Ford
8. HWBush
9. Johnson
10. Wilson
10. Truman
10. Carter
13. WBush
14. Hoover
15. Nixon
16. Harding

For the twenty first century, I have to put Bush above Obama. Bush didn't violate the constitution as much as Obama has. And just compare the budget deficits: 400 Billion by the end of Bush's second term, $1.2 Trillion after Obama's first term, which is projected to double by 2016.

You're right. Bush only lied to start and perpetuate a costly and unnecessary war in Iraq as well as creating an intelligence culture of torture and a "with us or against us" attitude towards our international allies as well as a crippling recession. Obama wants everyone to have healthcare.

I can't understand how you still can have Reagan and both Bushes so high over Nixon except the ignorance of youth.

Reagan is responsible for almost all the current foreign policy problems we currently have. Ending the Cold War started the ethnic fighting in the former Soviet Union and former Yugoslavia. His allowing weapons to Iran to free American hostages increased the practice of seizing them. His cut and run in Lebanon after the Beirut Marine barracks bombing and refusal to retaliate convinced Arabs that the US would always retreat when threaten with the loss of lives. He sent VP Bush to explain in person to Saddam on how our spy satellites worked so in Gulf War I they couldn't track Scud missile launchers. And that doesn't include Iran-Contra where the White House was trying to privately fund a war without Congressional approval.

Bush I was Reagan without with the speaking ability. He kept up the failed foreign policy and tried to solve problems with bombing because he didn't want to commit troops to a ground campaign except in Gulf War I. Even then it was more of getting out of the way and letting the military do their job.

Bush II got us Gulf War II and Afghanistan without achieving the stated objectives. We all know about the economy and how even with a Republican Congress he couldn't use public spending to help bring us out and instead we got the Bridge to Nowhere.

Now Nixon may have been corrupt, but he did open up China, start the nuclear disarmament with the Soviet Union, and finally get us out of the Vietnam Conflict.

Ok fine I will step up. FDR was a failure, and left us with huge amount of debt (www.humanevents.com/2011/08/23/does-obama-have-any-idea-why-new-deal-failed/). so why is Obama trying to copy THAT? Once again, Obama is five times worse than Bush. Obama also has the Media to back him up.

"[Reagan] worked with congress to fix our problems, and cut back regulation and spending."

I know I'm three or four pages late, but Reagan did NOT cut spending. It grew every year while he was in office. All that was cut was the rate of the growth.

"(much like Fasces' laughable new result)."
In what way? I disagreed entirely with the result of my aggregate, I actually read through each study and how they did it. The old ones were done by a family of historians who were bias in their own right. Then it got into a few that included presidents HWBush, Clinton, Bush and Obama despite conducting the survey less then a year, or just after a year, that they had come into office.

Bush was ranked 19th in the poll after his first year. Obama was ranked 15th. You can't judge someone who just came into office like that. I didn't look at the results of my findings before calculating the aggregate, I just disagreed with the method so ignored the findings.
Fasces349 (0 DX)

The biggest thing about Sbyvl36 that reminds me of TC is that even though he makes a complete idiot of himself, on the fundamental level I agree with him.

The biggest point to be made is that hes right. With exception to Krugman and classical Keynesians, economists agree that the new deal was a failure, and in fact you are taught in Econ 102 that it was, a classic example of what not to do in a trough and why.

I'm going to give FDR a pass on that because while it is accepted by today's economists (except for Paul Krugman) that it was bad policy, the economists of then (most notably Keynes himself) thought it was good policy.

That said I have no reason to give Obama a pass on it and so I wont. Its why when I moved FDR from near the bottom to in the middle of my list, I moved Obama down.

I honestly can't comprehend how anyone could be so stupid as to think there are simple right and wrong answers to such complicated problems. People have different ideas, beliefs, and plans to go about doing things, and the fact that there are smart people on both sides and examples of both solutions succeeding should show you that things are just not that simple.

How can you call Roosevelt a failure and Reagan and Coolidge successes when Reagan and Coolidge both did significant harm to the economy, while Roosevelt fixed it (albeit slowly)?
Jack_Klein (897 D)

Somebody who thinks the world is only 6000 years old has no business lecturing anybody on history lessons.

18 Jan 13 UTC
@Ghug: I'm going to let Sbyvl36 answer that one, because assuming he is half the man TC was, his response will be way more hilarious and insightful then anything I could post on the topic. I wont comment on Reagan and Coolidge but I will say that most economist acknowledge the economy wasn't fixed under Roosevelt, the two main camps are whether the market corrected itself during the war (what Keynesians and monetarists believe) or whether the market correction happened during the post war boom (what the Austrians and Neoclassicals believe), but neither the educated left nor the right think the new deal or any economic policies FDR did was a success.
@Jack: Prehistory=/=history. I hate the people who will try to discredit everything Christians say because they believe in different creation theories as you.

We aren't talking about the origin of the universe, or the evolution of mankind, we are talking about American 20th Century history, a field that there are more Christians in then any other belief system.
