That ending was fucking stupid. Seattle won... the replacement refs gave them a win earlier this year but this one actually mattered.

"In otherwords Seattle won"
"Seattle won..."

Pretty sure we're not playing them next week, though... ;)
ghug (5068 D(B))
13 Jan 13 UTC
@bo, the replacement refs didn't even give us the win earlier this year, people just freaked out over a questionable play that actually was called correctly and ignored the multitude of actual bad calls against both teams that pretty much evened out.

@Obi, you're just happy because your team actually has a chance of winning now.

I hate it when the reffs ruin the game with a bad call (i'm still super pissed about the US-Canada game in the Olympics semi-final womens soccer). I don't think the Texans are up for a miracle comeback though, but they're only down by 11.

Turns out if Seattle had won that game it would have been the biggest 4th quarter comeback in postseason history. looks like it wasn't meant to be.

In anycase, I now think its going to be a 49ers-Patriots final.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Jan 13 UTC
Ghug, there's your Seattle bias again. The ball was called a touchback on the field by a referee with a higher judgement than the one that called touchdown. There was no conclusive view to overturn that call. It may be close, but it can't be a maybe. It must be a conclusive yes or no to overturn the call and there wasn't any angle that gave that.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
13 Jan 13 UTC
Bo, I think ghugs argument is that there were multiple bad calls before that in the game, but people only remember the big one at the end.

I didn't see the game so I can't judge.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
13 Jan 13 UTC
"a questionable play that actually was called correctly" ...

That's the part I'm going after, Fasces. I didn't see the game either. If it's a questionable call, the call on the field by the superior ref can't be overturned, yet his call was overridden for whatever reason.

I didn't see the game either, and honestly, the Packers lost to the Colts in that same time period, so a team like the Seahawks (then) was about equal to the Packers team that I'd been expecting. Hell, either way you go with it, it's practically irrelevant in the long run.

Carroll isn't claiming that he didn't take a timeout. He's mad because they got a "practice kick" off..

There were two parts to my argument, Fasces has half of it correct, bo is completely wrong.

How am I completely wrong? I countered what you said. Read this and I'll read that... fair deal?

ghug (5068 D(B))
14 Jan 13 UTC
Bo, you countered, and you were wrong, simple as that.

I read yours, and I honestly don't think that the graphical evidence supports the claim that the hand came off.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
14 Jan 13 UTC
Ghug, I'm not making the claim that he didn't make the catch. He did; it was a simultaneous catch. The guy in that article rambles about control which was pretty clearly wrong. However, the point I still make is that the senior official on the field made the call for touchback while the goal line official signaled touchdown. The official calling touchback has the priority here because of his status on the crew. The NFL issued the statement that no indisputable evidence was provided to overturn the call, but my question remains why it was originally called a touchdown instead of a touchback, clearly overlooking that simple rule that the senior official makes the call over the (for lack of a better word) back up official.

I am not questioning whether or not he caught it. Frankly, through all of the times I saw it, I could never tell. The frames here still don't give me a clear enough view to tell. It's honestly one of the closest plays I've ever seen. Doesn't change the fact that they gave the nod to the wrong guy on the field.

ghug (5068 D(B))
14 Jan 13 UTC
bo, you said that the Seahawks were "gifted" the game. Control was at worst simultaneous and at best Tate's, so the ball was a touchdown. It may be that two wrongs inadvertently did make a right, but that is certainly not a "gift" by any stretch of the imagination.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
14 Jan 13 UTC
Sure it is... if it weren't a gift, the NFL wouldn't have made it such a priority to get rid of those refs. It's no coincidence that a deal magically came together that week. You are completely missing what I'm saying. I don't give a damn if he caught it or not. I don't give a damn about the right call. I'm talking about the process they used to get to the call they made.

ghug (5068 D(B))
14 Jan 13 UTC
No, it's not a gift, that's why they didn't reverse it. It was a display of terrible officiating, but the call ended up being the right one.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
14 Jan 13 UTC
Terrible officiating.. that's what I've been saying. Way to come around ;)
ghug (5068 D(B))
14 Jan 13 UTC
No, you've been saying it was a gift. It wasn't a gift, it was the Seahawks managing to come out on top and somehow get the correct call made despite the terrible officiating.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
14 Jan 13 UTC
looking at it frame by frame I think Jennings made the interception.
Thucydides (864 D(B))
14 Jan 13 UTC
Oh yeah the officiating was bad, but it was still the officiating that the game had. The rule of law was upheld, justice was done, the packers whined, and I merrily did dine.

An All-Male Discussion on Feminism, "Feminism," and Atheism...This Should Be Fun...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKKQdJR7F_I Frankly, I think that's a fair point--these people do NOT represent a very good side of either feminism or atheism, in my opinion...there's Feminism, and then there's "Feminism" or, as it might otherwise be put, "Demanding that everyone agree with your views full stop or else libeling them." Real feminism and real atheism is, I think, being somewhat "poisoned" by this increasingly-smug, self-assured band of PC Police.

CD or hold everything?
I'm in a gunboat at the moment where one of the players - who has no shot at winning anymore - has decided to hold every turn giving SCs to the largest player, in effect throwing the game. I'd prefer if he would just CD so we can get somebody else. Are there any (un)written good practices?
