Kadhafi is truly a moral giant, vilified by the west only because of his anti-west policies! Look he wants to spare his people from western control!

It's been 3 years, and still Germany will not accept offers for a cease-fire in this long war. All the other sovereign nations have ratified the pledge and are supporting each other. When will Germany accept that he cannot break the combined will of Europe? gameID=63769

This Time On Philosophy Weekly--Grouped Stars or Dividing Stripes: Nationalism vs. Global
Now, this one I DEFINITELY want, if possible, folks from other nations outside the US to contribute to, as I'd be keen to hear what someone might have to say who actually IS part of a greater-than-a-nation-union, such as the EU, but it's a pretty simple question:
Politically AND Ideologically, which is preferable--Nationalism or Globalization/Unions, and which do you believe is the "future" politically?

In order to promote good playing behavior, I'd like to introduce the concept of "Death with Honor", which I suggest to be included as a tie-breaker in tournaments just after the number of wins. Definition follows:

Your 2012 Presidential Pick
I know it is a little early, but I am curious. If the American presidential election were tomorrow, who would you vote for and why? You can pick Republicans who have not announced their candidacy yet. You can also pick a Democrat that you would pick over Obama.

Why are there so few quality World Dip games here?
I've played hundreds of games, and on this site my win\draw ratio is quite strong, as it generally tends to be. I consider myself to be a strong player, not an expert, but quite skilled.

However, I am noticing that in the World Dip variant, the talent pool seems to be rather shallow...why is this?

PPSC vs. WTA
What are your thoughts? After a couple of couple of games under my belt I'm beginning to grow quite irritated at PPSC. It always seems to dwindle off into one less well doing player helping another better doing player to a solo for a fair share of points. More under the cut.

I feel like debating
How about we debate the existence of God? (Though I highly doubt anyone will change their minds on this subject)
I am a Christian, but I think I'll let an atheist go first.

Yeah CM how does one know that the accounts of Jesus' life, the Gospels, were not doctored and mostly fictitious - changed so that they fit with the prophecies?

The point is made more clear when you realize that the four gospels were far from the only things written about Jesus and his life... interesting that only those accounts that line up with the prophecies were accepted by the Church - people who already were Christian.

Kinda fishy.
@kingdroid: And saying 'we don't know yet' isn't just saying 'it just is'. If you don't know the answer, then for now, all you know is that it 'just is'.
"such blatant ignorance/stupidity sickens me" Ditto
"it is about how you think you can prove it." I never said I could prove it.

"Note that according to the Bible, a rich man named Joseph specifically asked for Jesus's body so that he could bury it." Kind of odd, after the troubles Jesus had with the rich and powerful for a rich man to come out publicly to bury him - against Roman custom in such a case of convicted treason and blasphemy - and certainly an affront to the Jewish leaders that supposedly condemned him. This would be a very risky and unlikely move for someone who is rich and well connected (the rich are always well connected - as he must have been to negotiate such a thing - against the prevailing desire of both the leadership and the general populace).

+1 Thucydides
@Thucy:"The point is made more clear when you realize that the four gospels were far from the only things written about Jesus and his life... interesting that only those accounts that line up with the prophecies were accepted by the Church - people who already were Christian." Though I'm not familiar with the apocryphal texts, I'm pretty sure they all hold up to the prophecies as well. Could you show a part of an apocryphal text that doesn't?

Isn't the biography of Jesus all covered up through research?
Kingdroid (219 D)

@ Conservative Man, by entering into the debate you said you could.

In addition, no, saying "We don't know yet" is not the same as "it just is" Saying "it just is" is implying that you 8know* "it just is". Saying "we don't know yet" Keyword: 'yet', means that we are working on finding out why, and implies that we are not simply accepting some blanket "it just is".

I know you think you're brilliant, but you're pretty pathetic. you have not shown a shred of evidence. your debating skills leave much to be desired, and you resort to changing the topic and "no u" cop-out answers in order to prove your point.

Officially muted.

No, in fact, it's the worst "theory." By your very definition of god, it exists outside of the scientific universe, so how can it be part of a scientific theory? That makes no sense.

I wonder where all the fear of religion comes from.
If you don't believe in God you have nothing to fear from religion because there is no judgement day.
You can completely dismiss all aspects of religion and go on your merry way.
The motivations for attacks on religious beliefs come from a lack of confidence the attackers has in their own rejection of religion.

@CM

And, if you'd like at least one alternative, you can look here:

http://www.dailygalaxy.com/my_weblog/2010/02/what-came-before-the-big-bang-leading-physicists-present-a-radical-theory-weekend-feature.html

It seems a bit suspect, I'll admit; however, the article probably doesn't do a good job of explaining what the authors actually mean. In any case, these are Cambridge and Princeton professors, so not people that just make stuff up.

In fact, I am still awaiting his answer to my question.
PSMongoose (2384 D)

manganese (100 D)
11 Jul 11 UTC

After the private university furore, Dawkins is in trouble again
Apparently one of our elders and betters has made a somewhat questionable analogy between a man chewing gum and the unwelcomed propositioning of a woman at an atheist conference. I am sure that this was eminantly logical but I am just struggling to see how!
