LOL. I was working from just after dinner to just before midnight and got on and went "What the FUCK!" This thread grew *very* fast.

Oh, one other serious not of advice, if you can avoid it, don't bring the work home. I have no choice as I am the only IT guy int he company right now and have dealines to meet. You are a little better off in that, while I'm sure you might get a page, it isn't like you'll be bringing home the pumper or the hook and ladder, just a little paperwork at most, tailboarder.

I was just reading this post and i can relate to your wifes position... My dad is a firefighter and sometimes i experience what your wife may be thinking... Occasionally my mom and my dad have the same exact fight that you and your wife may be having... I can elaborate on what your wife might be thinking if you would like me to...

I can relate to what your wife may be thinking... My dad is also a firefighter and sometimes i go through the same exact feelings that i am sure your wife is feeling... I also see the difficulty to change from work to home... My mom and dad also have what i am sure are the same exact kinds of fights that you have... If you would like me to elaborate on what your wife may be feeling just let me know...

Oh, I kind of figured that work was brought home, but she can help with it if you'll let her and bringing it home can't really be avoided. But leave the administrative chores for another day if you can and help her help you. My brother's a highway patrolman and I've heard the tales from his side of the horrible accidents and stuff, but he and his wife (who is a police dispatcher) have excellent communication and she really helps him let go of the horrors he's seen.

Sit down and open up to her. Once the kids are in bed, don't go for a beer, go to her.

The drunker I get the better I feel. I will not enter any of my games nor will I enter my bedroom...

Ok this is weird but for some reason since i posted my first message this post stopped working for me so the only way i can tell if anything is replyed to is if i see it on the home page... This post is stuck at "True????" so idk...

My dad works 24 hour shifts in 9 day cycles where he works for 24 hours then gets 24 off then 24 on then off then on then 4 days off... Usually on the days where he gets 4 days he is in a very good mood. I believe that is because he gets the extra time to take his mind off of work and think of other things.

Normally it is on his single days off where his attitude at home seems the worst. If any of this relates to you idk... Occasionally on these days that he is off we must do things like clean the house or other possibly stressful things. On these occasions is where it is the worst...

When my mom or i call him out as being in a bad mood or try to brighten him up, little works to get him to change. Since my mom has more control over him than i do (lol) she will ask him the question, "why are you in such a bad mood?"

To this my dad usually doesnt respond or he will say "I'm fine." When it is obvious that he is not. He is also very closed emotionally when he is at home. It didnt occur to me that this may be because of his work until i read this forum post. Basically my dad doesnt want us to know what he is feeling or why he is feeling these things.

The thing that drives both my mom and i is that we dont know what he is feeling or how we can make it better for him. Because he doesnt tell us what is wrong we cannot help... The hardest thing for us is that we cannot help him even though we are trying and that is very frustrating... I think your wife feels the same way that my mom and i feel... If you can relate to my story i can be almost positive that she is frustrated.at trying to get through to you with little success...

The best ways that my family found out to make this get better was to just sit down and talk. We would sit there for sometimes an hour and let any and all feelings out. This made everyone feel better especially my parents and that was just a great feeling for me :)
