I love how we both insist we are in the number 2 slot! :). If I have it right, unless there is a solo in the last two games, that and the survives won't come into the tie breaks and ties with different number of draws won't either because that requires someone with three 3-ways losing to someone with four 4-ways. Depending on the last games, Partysane might hold that tiebreak against Y2kbjk and Me. Otherwise it is SCs and if my math is right I am up on y2kbjk 32-31 on that one. :D

For reference, the first round had France and Austria up top. Italy and Germany moved up, while Turkey and England crashed. All agree, Russia just sucks :D

Austria 111.8 3 solos, 20 draws

Turkey 90.2 3 solos, 15 draws
England 76.0 2 solos, 14 draws (final score)

On a related note, I am a TA for the gunboat SoW but I am heading out backpacking for a few days. I think Patysane is already involved but would one of you be up for subbing for a few days? Basically it is a matter of discussing plans with the student and passing along key tips like "always let the Wookie win." I figure you folks know you stuff. You can check out the gunboat SoW thread to get a flavor of it

My student has been great to work with and is still in decent shape in the game. Should be fun times

Yep! Mathematically, y2kjbk is all but in. Currently he has 37 centers to josunice's 24, so it would take the right three way draw to push him into fifth and if he eels out fourth it would take the right three way draw in the other group to beat him for the "best #4 spot

Ogion (3882 D)

Holy cow. I think several of is thought there would be no solos in group 2 let alone three of them! How come no one knew how to stop a solo?

So down to the last game....
VirtualBob (244 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
The most famous solo-stopper in the site chose to throw the game to improve his chances of advancing, that s why.
rdrivera2005 (3533 D(G))
25 Aug 14 UTC
And what´s wrong with that choice VBob? Wouldn´t you do the same in his position? Will you risk your chance to go to next round just to stop a solo? A tournament isn´t a game, you have to consider the tournament table.
I blame Russia a lot more then Austria for the solo, as we could have stopped France if Russia stopped pushing Austra and helped me when it was clear France is pushing for the solo.
Ogion (3882 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
I think rdivera has it right about Russia. The war went on for quite a long time.

Also, I guess you were right about the table. If my count is right, split and Maettu hold the same number of solos (0), survives (2), and draws (3), but split wins the SC count 39-34. Is that right?
VirtualBob (244 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
@rdrivera - good point ... but he would actually have had a better chance of advancing if he had helped stop the solo.
Maettu (7933 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
It's true, I should have helped Turkey to eliminate Austria a lot earlier. Then again, Turkey proved time and again that he can't be trusted.
The situation in the north on the other hand was pretty much your own doing rdrivera. It took you WAY too long to finally switch gear against France. My untimely move to Cly certainly didn't help, but you had attacked Warsaw and kept pushing for the NS for years, when it was evident that France was the biggest threat and I wouldn't be able to hold England for long.
Maettu (7933 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
On a side note: you needn't compare my count with Split's, as I have 11 D to his 10.
Yaleunc (11052 D(B))
25 Aug 14 UTC
(+1)
Also, not sure why the thinking is that throwing the solo helps Split's chances to advance. That would only have been the case if the solo went to Barn or Maettu (as it turned out it was Barn). Any other player soloing would have dropped Split to 4th in group 2 with a lower point total than 4th from group 1. So either he was certain France was Maettu or Barn or it was a bad move to throw the solo.

JimTheGrey (968 D(S))

Now what would be interesting is a discussion about why survivals are part of the tie-breaker. I understand tracking survivals and eliminations as separate stats, but why value one form of loss over the other in a scoring system? And if you are, why choose survival as the result with the greater value? The survivors often are most culpable for the solo. Why give them a better break than the poor chap who wasn't around to stop the solo because the survivors killed him when they should have been focusing their resources elsewhere?
Ogion (3882 D)
25 Aug 14 UTC
@ Maettu. Good point. Rdrivera is also behind but 39-21 in the SC count

And yes yaleunc, that's a great point. Split came very close to losing out on a Ross of the dice.

Cameron is so arrogant he won't change but today it was announced that net migration to the UK was 243,000 last year, Cameron has promised 50,000. He and his Old Etonian cronies seem to be the only people that don't realize there is a problem ..... he talks tough but acts like a pussy !!

Behaviorism
According to Wikipedia, “The behaviorist school of thought maintains that behaviors as such can be described scientifically without recourse either to internal physiological events or to hypothetical constructs such as thoughts and beliefs.”

Do you think this is appropriate? If so, does that make you optimistic or pessimistic about the prospects for human happiness?

Fairly Cheap Website Hosting and Webdesign
€7,50/month, €90/year to host a site with up to 5 GB of space and monthly bandwidth, my help when needed, many 1-click installations, webmail accounts for your domain, excellent reliability and English support. Easy. Quite all-inclusive except domain registration. That’s £5,99/month or $9.93/month. International transactions cost a bit too. Prices change. You can make me a personal offer. Price for webdesign depends on workload but think 3 digits. More inside.

What would happen if...
What would happen if I convoy an army from Belgium to Holland using my fleet in the north sea as well as order my other fleet at Holland to move to Belgium, simultaneously?
Is this possible?

PS: I know it would be same as ordering F:Hol->North Sea, F:North Sea-> Bel, A:Bel->Hol; but just curious. ;)

Gunboat support moves
I'm in a no messaging anonymous player game where I was dislodged because one player supported another into my territory. How common is it that without messaging a player would know the exact move to make to assist another? Should I report this to the mods? It just seems suspicious as there theoretically shouldn't be a way for the two players to communicate....
