How does one report a dubious competitor?
I'm in a game where one player is making moves that help another player, after that player attacked him from the first move. It may not be outright cheating, but it is certainly against the spirit of the rules. I would like an administrator to look into it.

To Cathlics - Resigning as Voice of God?
OK...I thought it was, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me..." and the Pope, who --- isn't he like the Voice of God on earth?? -- is too tired to go on? Errr...it isn't about his strength...it's supposed to be about Christ's strength, isn't it? How disappointing is this to Catholics?

What new features would you like to see on WebDip?
Think of this as a wishlist. Please be constructive and positive. I think it would be really good if we can come up with a solid list of 6-10 things that we can slowly work on to improve the site.

The OP said 6 to 10 things and there is a list of almost 50. I'm going to go back to the spirit of the thread and only propose 7 changes.
1) Use dice (virualy speaking, of course) to determine the outcome of a battle, rather than the number of armies for or against the move.
2) Allow the stacking of multiple Armies on each space.
3) Every space is an SC, that is you can build everywhere you have taken over
4) Play doesn't happen simultaneously, but rather rotates around the board, with each player making as many moves as they want until they chose to hold, or they run out of possible attacks
5) you can only attack if you have more than one unit, because you always have have one unit per space to hold that space in your possesion
6) every time you successsfully take at least one space from another player, you get a card, which can be collected to turn in for more units.
7) You win only when you conquer the entire board, not just half of it

On second thought, those changes are probably to risky.

I second philcore's initial thought. We're getting bogged down in a lot of details. What key ideas will make this site both more popular and more exciting?

1) Everyone can upload multiple profile pictures.
2) The pictures should be in various states of undressed.
3) At the start of the game the picture with 3-4 items of clothing is shown. As you gain and lose centers the picture is changed appropriately. 1 center = 1 item of clothing.

On second thought, those changes are probably too risque.

Can we make a list and update this list in this topic. So we do not have to scroll up and down to see what is suggested accepted/ Declined?? It is already 5 pages though....

As lazy as I am I would like to suggest that messages are real time. You have to refresh the whole time to see new messages. It would be more efficient to see incomming messages instantly...It keeps messages from crossing eachother and maybe a chat can go on...

If we go for 46. Display countries in Braille to aid the blind (1), shouldn't we go the whole hog and do the whole map and messages translation? I just hope it doesn't end up with too many dots on the screen - also how are smiley faces translated into Braille.
philcore (317 D(S))
22 Jan 13 UTC
@Alderain - Striplomacy?

@Maniac - and how do the "dots" on the screen get translated to physical bumps on the monitor? Cause that's some bad-ass technology there!

sorry - copied when I mean to cut -

hey that brings up an actual suggestion (as opposed to my Risk rules, not everyone elses actual suggestions ;-). Make this tiny little 4 line text box bigger.
philcore (317 D(S))
22 Jan 13 UTC
@Maniac - not quite what I was envisioning. A matrix of a couple hundred dots, giving maybe two or three words at a time on the screen is a decent first start though.
Maniac (189 D(B))
22 Jan 13 UTC
@philcore - I think we could get a blind user to wear some kind of thimble that when they run it over a screen it will pick up the words and translate it into braille

This has been a very good list so far. Here's the summary of the top 10 and the next leading 3 suggestions:

Top 6-10 thus far:
1. GR Integration (11)
2. Autopause for CD/NMR plus autoCD if in 01 (8)
3. Reliability Rating (game restriction) (11)
5. Cost reduction/low risk for CD takeovers ** [suggest first three centers free] (10)
6. Extend vote as option to pause (8)
7. Anonymous forum postings for anonymous game adverts (6)
8. Order preview (6)
14. Contingent Takeover **- Pre-CD Phase - boot player who will CD, and instead extend phase time by one phase length time (9)
15. Grey Press (7)
16. Auto-Processing for single-option disband (8)

The following three are current tied with 5 votes:
9. Colorblindness features (5)
12. Search function in forum (5)
23. When a forum topic goes to more than one page, put the page selector at the bottom of each page as well as the top (5)

Next, I think we would discuss each suggestion and see if we can combine/improve/clarify any suggestion. For example:

Is there a way we can combine #2 and #14? They both deal with very similar issues, and we should be able to come up with a solution to solve both.
josunice (3702 D(S))
22 Jan 13 UTC
I vote for the Pre-CD phase methodology of boot and extend to deal with CDs. To solve most first year CDs, I suggest a confirm function once all seats are filled. I would venture to say many of the first year CDs would be solved by requiring an up front confirm. Maybe making the confirm a turn length after which anyone who has not confirmed is booted, and another turn length is added. Once all players confirm, the first turn commences.

@zultar - it has been suggested to start a new thread... how about "What new features would you like to see on WebDip? Part II" -- folks can find and review this thread for a while, yet you can start a new thread fresh with your phase two message above....

1. GR Integration (11) VOTE
6. Extend vote as option to pause (8) VOTE

I thought of something else -

It would be nice to add a few lines at the top of the screen when you're entering a new post that directs players to some of the rules that are commonly violated (e.g. Do not post about an ongoing game, avoid cheating accusations, read the rules, post live games in the live game thread etc.)

I am looking for decent players interested in joining my first game on this site (though I have played Diplomacy before). I hope you will find the settings satisfactory, and the gameplay of high quality. Let us see if I can honor my namesake's legacy.

Wrestling Dropped from Olympic Games.
http://espn.go.com/olympics/wrestling/story/_/id/8939185/ioc-drops-wrestling-2020-olympics

I don't understand how canoeing, handball, badminton, taekwondo, and table tennis can survive as "core sports", but wrestling, that most traditional of Olympic sports, gets placed on par with wakeboarding, roller sports, and squash.
