I am a little racist, the average IQ among Caucasians is 101.5, the average IQ among Africans is 88. There is a difference for a reason.

You didn't say that, although you first introduced yourself as fascist and explained your political views, which included racism (your words) - saying something along the lines you did here about intelligence and similar scientific racism arguments. How about I draw your attention toward the fact most of the poor countries that became 'rich' or 'semi-rich' did so through authoritarian governments - South Korea, Taiwan (not a country, but you know what I mean), Indonesia, Brazil, Chile (after Pinochet abandoned his Chicago boy policies), etc, etc.

Vietnam and China are among the fastest growing economies in the world, I might add.

In what sense? I don't think scientific racism has any validity. I think Dr. Boas debunked it a long time ago. I don't think race is 'nothing', and even if a construct it has real meaning for most people. Interestingly enough, Foreign Affairs (a prominent academic journal owned by the Council on Foreign Relations) was originally called the Journal of Race Development.

Racism in general is a tool of capital to divide and rule. Wherever there is capitalism racism follows.

Fasces, don't kid yourself. The only thing standardized IQ tests reliably measure is socioeconomic status. Rich people score high, poorer people score lower. That's all there is to it.

@Putin: those "fast-growing economies" grow quickly because authoritarian regimes make sure that people with money can make a lot more money in their countries--dispensing with profit-draining problems like worker's rights and environmental protection. They grow because they're funded by corporations that can only exist in democratic nations.

@Mafia - I hate to burst your stereotype, but I came from a middle class family who had to scrimp and save. I even had to get student loans and use the GI Bill to pay for my college. It wasn't until I moved out that my parent's finally broke into "upper-middle class" income and even now I wouldn't call them rich. Yet I top out most standard IQ tests that only test to about 150.

At the same time, my wife (who I love dearly) came from a fairly wealthy family (her second cousin just left her and the other second cousins 800K - about 100K each, and her mom has more money than God), yet she tests somewhere around 96, a bit below average. Yes, we have our problems when it comes to having intelligent conversations or even my trying to explain even some of the basic concepts involved in computing and networking.

It's a bit of a stretch (actually it's totally untrue) to claim that these countries only grew because of foreign investment from foreign corporations. Many Latin American countries experienced rapid growth using the strategy of import-substitution industrialization, meaning they explicitly restricted foreign investment and foreign imports. I know for a fact Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina did this.

Still pretty messed up that you go around talking about your wife's low IQ in order to bolster your image online.

It's not low per se and I was trying to make a point that wealth does not equate high IQ scores. I rarely mention her IQ. In fact this is the first time I've mentioned it here or anywhere else I can recall. It's called anecdotal evidence countering a stereotype presented, so quit trying to divert the discussion off the point. The stereotype that rich=high IQ scores and poor=low IQ scores is bogus. I've presented evidence to show it is bunk. Wish to prove me wrong? Or do you intend to continue to divert the conversation in a different direction and avoid my statement?

However, IQ is not a particularly good indicator of anything other than IQ, so it really isn't worth having this argument.

Mmmmm...well the problem is Draugnar, I'm speaking statistically about large scale social trends, and you're using anecdotal evidence to disprove that. That doesn't really prove me wrong. Obviously you can find exceptions to any generalized statement based on data applying to entire populations. It doesn't really mean I'm wrong. But since Draugnar has made the point, let me make what I actually meant explicit rather than simply drawing broad conclusions for a rhetorical purpose. What I actually, literally mean is that if you look at IQ scores for a population, you will find that if you control for socioeconomic status there is absolutely no difference between people of different races, ethnicities or nationalities (or sex/gender, or sexual orientation for that matter either).

And in fact more generally, when you try controlling for virtually any other factors that might be influencing IQ scores, you find the only thing that consistently, systematically affects IQ to a degree that can be considered statistically significant, is socioeconomic status. (Obviously within socioeconomic status groups, people's IQ scores vary, I'm not arguing that they don't, but there is a relationship between SES and IQ.)
