6 player variant . which map...?
Hi,
just finishing my work on the colonial map. What map should I do next? It needs to be a well tested 6-player-map, as one of my friends might not be able to play in our next game.

Possible New Statistic?
We have many statistics that are interesting, but there is one missing that I would like to see. Much as there are the total points earned from all the games played, I would like to see the total SCs collected from the games as well. I think the average of the total number of SCs against the number of games played might be a better measure of a player's skill than points. It is still a subjective figure, but I do think it would be interesting.

Seven Captains, Tea, Coffee- and a Dispute over Bulgaria
In this latest installment of "what nerdy scenario will obiwanobiwan throw out there as he's not in the mood to type his Philosphy paper" we have the immortal question:

If Captains Kirk (Shatner/Pine), Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Spock, and Riker all sat down for a game of Diplomacy- who'd place where?

Ankaran Crescent
There was some demand for a game of Ankaran Crescent (OK... It was started by me) so I'm going to create one.

Everyone knows that we start in Switzerland, so I guess my first move will be to the Syria. I submit my math below:

Right, we've been going for some unusual moves, so I'm going to take it back to a style of play I'm more comfortable with.

Shoot, I'd hoped to make it to Sesame Street from Electric Avenue. instead, i'll have to settle for:

North Africa

I am going to invoke the Gorbachev directive (made from his hospital bed following his quintuple heart bypass surgery in 1996) and use the Leningrad variant to move to STP.
djbent (2572 D(S))
09 Oct 09 UTC
interesting, i had to consult the Talinn federation's Book of Acts to find that directive, i wasn't familiar with it. according to page 36, your move to St. Petersburs, following the Stone Temple Pilots initiative, allows a me to get within three moves of Ankara Crescent:

Picardy

Hmm... Well that puts me in a quandary. I could move to Galicia now, with the Second Lepanto convention of 1988, but that would leave TGM open for a move to Syria, and then he's open for Ank...

So I guess that I'll move to Syria to stop that, even if it hurts me in the long run...

I'm in Ionian Sea, because I ate pizza for lunch.
OMGNSO (415 D)

"Pizza for Lunch"! What sort of strategy is that?!
In any case that opens me up for North sea by the similar seas overrule, which is an obviously superior rule.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Oct 09 UTC
I move to Bla and everyone is forced to abandon the black sea region under the "I had pizza AND chili for lunch' rule. Do to the toxic cloud, only the one who dealt it can be within one territory of the cloud, which includes Ankara Crescent.

Interesting, the Reykjavik de-isolation principle. I will hold in Iceland, and since we're using the modern rules, the Heisenberg uncertainty principle means I'm not in Iceland at all but in Tunis. With the appropriate supports from Schrodinger's cat in Warsaw.
Draugnar (0 DX)
09 Oct 09 UTC
No! Not Schrodinger's cat! Now we won't know if you are actually in Iceland or Tunis until we open up the intel reports, which means you are actually in both at the same time!

Nice move.

How many players are allowed in a game of this?
Maniac (184 D(B))
09 Oct 09 UTC
@ParanoidFreak, it depends on how many people are forced to enter nidd (a kind of stasis) which allows others who had been watching to become participants. Why don't you start the next game?
Maniac (184 D(B))

I'll join this round with a move to Prussia. I think the Hohenzollern Gambit is better than its tournament record indicates.
ParanoidFreak (100 D)

I'd start, but I don't know if there are any... precise... rules for opening a game.
ParanoidFreak (100 D)

The Hapsburg Sewer Convention of 1886 allows me to move to Bohemia - so being a rebel I'll move to Ruhr...
djbent (2572 D(S))
10 Oct 09 UTC
Alright, alright, the rules clearly state that we can't have two simultaneous openings. if you want to do the hohenzollern gambit, you must know that it starts with a move from switzerland to munich, tiresiasBC. and ParanoidFreak, you can't have an opening after another has already played one. i pronounce them both void under the Fete de Loup arrangement of '74, and shall make my own opening: Burgundy.
djbent (2572 D(S))
10 Oct 09 UTC
apologies Yadho, being a newbie you aren't familiar with such intricacies, but your move to ruhr is also invalid, unless you choose to re-make it, based on my opening.

Are the Broncos better than the Patriots?
Sometimes. A better question, is are the broncos better than the patriots when Tom Brady is the Patriots' QB? Undoubtedly yes. Denver has gone 5-0 and will continue to win. The pats may have had a chance if Brady could complete a pass or two against our D.
