Help! I'm new!
Hi everyone, I just joined this site a couple days ago. I understand relatively how to play Diplomacy, but I've only played in real life before. Typically, I've never been able to round up many friends to play the game because it takes so long, but I've played some games. Can anyone direct me to any resources so I can learn to play better? Sorry if there was a post like this, but I couldn't find it.

MLB Playoffs
Well fellas, we're down to the last day. The Mariners' drought continues, the Cards continue to somehow stay in it, the Jays thank the Lord finally get a win to push them to the #1 spot. The Nats also clinched home field advantage over the Dodgers.

Any WS predictions? Is it really the Cubs' year? Can the Dodgers finally make it? Who's going to surprise? My money is on the Jays duelling it out with the Giants, but of course I have a strong bias. What do you all think?

How anyone can vote for someone under criminal investigation (for the second time) is beyond me. Anyone thinking that she can still win is deluding themselves.

I am sure some diehard's will still vote for her, but that's it. She may get 30-40% of the vote. It will be a complete landslide win for Trump.

Clinton is ahead 13 in Jersey which is like over a million people. And ahead 21 points in NY. Are you seriously saying millions and millions of dems vote trump?

ND so many people have won political offices while mired in scandals. Sometines it actually nakes them more liked. Bill's approval soared in scandal.

This Super Bowl's gonna be a landslide, Seahawks are gonna have a wave/surge. Screenshot this. Expect the score to go from 'down 10 after three quarters' to a yuge 18-point victory. By the final minutes people will be asking not if the Seahawks can win, but by how many touchdowns they will win. Looking forward to Patriots fans buying me dinner and a beer. It's GG, some of you just haven't realized it yet. But call me a prophet, a visionary, or a seer. It's over, and the saddest thing is that some of you don't see it, but you will in 10 minutes of game time.

Tip for the future: don't start a QB under league investigation for deflating footballs. See you in 2015. GG.

@ND

Trump is under investigation. Racketeering charges right now for being an accessory to Trump University, there's an evaluation in December about a sexual assault case that might be reopened (concede that, not right now investigation), his audit from the IRS may draw in to a legal court case about whether or not he violated tax code: though that trial is incipient.

But no, there are enough people disgusted by Trump to get her elected. I'm not defending her, just you're WAY underestimating her

I agree, ND. Nominating someone with scandal attached to their name is a bad play. Grandpa Bernie would be spanking The Donald by now, and Rubio or Kasich would be clobbering Hillary. But, fortunately for both parties, their opponent put forward one of the worst and most scandal-laden candidates they could find in their ranks. Hillary will likely win because her scandals are far fewer and far less damning. The fact that you do not realize that is... well, it makes me question how you passed the captcha required to sign up on this site.

@Lethologica: I consider imitation a compliment. Thank you for that well constructed and on point analysis which completely relates to the topic at hand.

@Brainbomb: Yes, I think that millions and millions of people will stay at home or not vote because of Hillary's FBI scandal. Bill had sexual scandals. Trump has lewd scandals. Both reflect on morality. Hillary's scandal reflects not only on morality, but also on criminal intent.

***CRIMINAL*** is the keyword. No one wants to vote for someone who may not even be able to be sworn in. TIP: You can't get sworn in from a jail cell. Her election will only lead to a constitutional crisis or years of investigations, further scandals, and potentially jail. No one wants that.

Trump is now seen as the less risky option and despite his 'supposed' flaws he is the better choice. He is the better choice for one reason: he won't be in jail in 2-3 months or in Federal court.

The stock market now predicts Trump will win: http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/31/this-stock-market-metric-says-the-likely-winner-istrump.html

Computers judging conversation metrics predict Trump will win: http://nypost.com/2016/10/28/reliable-ai-system-predicts-trump-will-win/

Primary model predicts Trump will win: http://primarymodel.com/2016-forecast-full/

All the polls were tightening before the FBI reopening the investigation. By the end of the week (screenshot this) he will be leading in the majority of polls.

It's done, my friend, it's done. Say it with me.. President... Donald... J... Trump...

Tip: Don't nominate a criminal next time.
That is why he will win.

Also the article Yanik was talking about that showed Trump's methods of dodging taxes being legally dubious then and DEFINITELY illegal now, which could be a big part of why he's under audit right now. And that would explain avoiding releasing tax returns.
brainbomb (290 D)

The stock market actually tends to do poorly when Trump has been doing better. Ironic lol. ND the state by state races dont show anything like that happening.
JamesYanik (548 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
@brainbomb

looking at Clinton's economic plan, it's basically: tax to cut government spending and cut a deficit, but then also raise gov't expenditures, increasing the debt.

if anything, many of her economic policies are the reason i'm considering Not voting for her. It's her foreign policy COMPARED to Trump that turns things around for me.

Also: "GOP mountaon out of a mole hill fuckery like benghazi, obama birthers"

1. yeah the birthers was stupid

2. Benghazi was the State department messing up. bad. then lying about it in the weeks before the general election. when asked later about Gaddafi (who was beaten, sodomized with a bayonet, and killed) Clinton actually started laughing during an interview.

She wins ZERO points with Libya

I dont really think the Republicans will have enough seats or influence left to get an actual impeachmrnt in. Itd be pretty hard to below 11% approval. Thats how
ND (879 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
@TrPrado: Trump has been under audit for years and years and years. If they haven't done anything by now they aren't going to do anything. All of that is just fluff to distract from the real story.

***CRIMINAL*** ***FBI*** ***INVESTIGATION***

Don't get distracted.
brainbomb (290 D)

How bad its gotten. People said this,elections about Change. This election is proving the GOP is getting massively taken behind the shed.
JamesYanik (548 D)

@brainbomb

the stock market has been solid under Obama up until 2015, all but energy sector really look at the DOW for hells sake. It was immediately up since 2008. Great investment under Obama. (The national debt has been bad, but we can talk about that separately)

but saying: Stock market does bad, Trump does well, is a complete non-sequitur/misunderstanding of Trump's current economic holdings.

@TrPrado

there are a LOT of reasons not to release tax records during an audit. But yeah, I'm sure he's got some skeletons in the closet. (probably Mexican)
brainbomb (290 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
There has been significant fluctuations in stocks in nasdaq and S&P when Trump has had poll spikes. Especially mexican owned shares. Not a lie.
JamesYanik (548 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
@ND

um... a long audit doesn't mean they're desperate, it means they're in gridlock. if anything, it's Trump's end holding up the process, probably because there is something they don't want seen.
ND (879 D)
01 Nov 16 UTC
Unfortunately (for the democrats) this one can't be spun. It can't be deflected. It can't be undone. Hillary Clinton is under federal investigation. The FEDS have everything now. They don't reopen investigations for the fun of it. They do it if they have something. They don't get warrants for the lolz. They do it when they think they have something.

The Clinton's can't spin this away. It is just going to get worse and worse and worse and we still have 7 more days for the impact (and further impacts relating to this) to hit.
JamesYanik (548 D)

when you said "he does well" i thought you meant IN THE MARKET. no, it's called market uncertainty.

webDiplomacy continues to lose players
The number of players listed each month in the Ghostratings continues to decline. Every year, there is a peak around May/June. We peaked in 2011 with 3,571 players, and steadily lost players from then to now (if you don't count the 2013-2014 inflated numbers anomaly). This last May peak we hit 2,503. At this rate, I figure there will be seven of us left in 2029.

Frostweaver's Personal Comments on Live Gunboat-483
Just a note: I'm not playing in the game, just spectating and inputting my personal comments on the game's moves.

Classic opening moves were made by all countries - except for Turkey. Seems Turkey is susceptible to Russian retaliation from the Black Sea. Also quite interesting how Britain and France strayed away from the English Channel.

I've discovered a bot that allows you to play chess on a Facebook Chat page using algebraic notation. Could someone conceivably create a Diplomacy adjudicator for a Facebook chat page? It might make Diplomacy more accessible as you can easily play with your friends without worrying for phase length, pauses etc. Would this be in any way possible? It's just a thought.
