We've got a pretty godawful community here, so I thought it'd be fun to let everyone point fingers. I vote for NS and myself.

How do I plot the situation? Is it done automatically or do I need a mapper app or something like that?

How to stop being garbage?
I've basically noticed that whether or not I get 2v1'd in 1901 or '02 basically comes down to a crapshoot. I find it's very difficult to get conversations and discussion rolling, especially in lower-bet games. Anyone got tips?

Funny business or just my usual paranoia?
I've noticed a trend in gunboat games....when entering orders -- especially during '01 -- a given great power will click SAVE instead of READY. More often than not, an adjacent great power will do the same. Amazingly, these powers don't move on each other. While it may be frowned upon, is this a way of signalling a wish for non-aggression/cooperation? ...and if it's not...why do it?

...and yes the walls talk to me...sometimes in harsh tones.

I support the 1v1 variants and known world looks cool, though I find the title "known world" silly.

So I think adding Chaos on it's own would be a questionable choice. But there is proof that people play the World map. Not a ton, but enough that if people are enjoying it we should keep it. So we aren't "adding" chaos, we're replacing an unbalanced, buggy map with a far better one that is one of the highest class variants around.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

The known world is already replacing World map (which is unbalance and buggy as stated by several others).

I think basically I am looking to add one more variant, be it Chaos, Pure, Europe 1939 or whatever. We just need to have a discussion about which one to add and pros/cons.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
17 Oct 16 UTC
Why only one more? Is the variant fund running low? :(

I think adding one more additional "normalish" variant would be awesome. Chaos is going to be one of those things where we only have a few games a year, because of the sheer size and organizing involved.

@flum - a 17 player world game is already hard to fill. A 34 player game is literally double the amount of players. There's already a site with the map loaded and operational. It's just a waste of this sites time to add this map of less than a game of it will be played monthly. That's in all seriousness. I feel that way about any addition. I can honestly see dozens of FOW games being played; dozens of 1v1. I just don't see us filling enough chaos games to make it worth it.

Maybe you should consider reading other people's posts instead of just considering only your own mighty opinion, as mighty as it is. That issue has been raised in this thread.
Mercy (2124 D)

Are there more people that have an opinion about the maps Cold War (http://vdiplomacy.net/variants.php?variantID=91) and Treaty of Verdun (http://vdiplomacy.net/variants.php?variantID=58)?
Cold War would, in my opinion, be a good addition to the 1vs1 variants.
Treaty of Verdun would be an even greater addition to the site, I think, because it is something new; we haven't planned 3-player maps yet. And since it is a 3-player map, it is very easy to fill.

Despite the fact that I started the petition thread and that I really enjoy Chaos, I would question the sense in porting it across. The reason you can't get that variant off the ground often on vDip isn't just due to a lacking playerbase, it's due to the fact that Chaos is a fantastic variant to play once in a while. I imagine that if Chaos was brought across, 4-5 games would instantly start, and then barely any games would ever fill after that, because it would have lost the appeal of being something new and different.

I think a good way to do it, though, would be to have a 'Chaos Week' once every six months, where you allow people to create and join Chaos variant games. After that week, the games that have started can be played out, and the option to create them is once again disabled. It's a nice way to bring something new to the site without wearing out its novelty.

Ah, forgive me, mighty Zultar, for having an unsanctioned opinion. I have seen nothing but support for Europe 1939 from other people's post, so it's not only my opinion.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)
17 Oct 16 UTC
Expanding on my above post...

A 'variant rotation' where games of a different variant can be created every 2 weeks or so (and then are disabled again when a new one is enabled) would be pretty awesome. Not sure how much work that would be though.
Fluminator (1500 D)

@CB, maybe the reason the 17 player variant has a hard time filling is not because it's 17 players but because the variant sucks.

Yeah no kidding. World Dip is the worst thing I've ever played, Diplomacy-wise.
captainmeme (1723 DMod)

Playing FUBAR and WWII on vdip makes me like World Dip far more than I did before. At least some thought went into it.

That said, it is a bad variant.

Yep! Would one hundred percent be behind Colonial. A vast map with loads of boltholes - great for weekend play! It's my favourite face to face map, for sure.

@Captainmeme Hell yeah!
Ikaneko (97 D)

IDK. At the moment, something like:
Heptarchy
Verdun
Colonial
Europe 1939

All good fun. I'd be happy with two out of those four implimented.

Actually, not classic, it has some of the changes from Milan, an a few other modifications; but you can still see a lit if the classic map in there.

Communication Block and Mute Player Inquiry.
Hey I am wondering if muting a player in a game can carry over into actual private messages and forum post messages? I received a private message for actual in game conversations where I am not even a player in the game.

Can people be muted/have blocked communications out of actual diplomacy games? Does anyone know if this is possible?
