Rules of life?
Does anyone has some sort of rules they live by, like the Ten Commandments? Semper Fidelis? Carpe Diem? Anything you live by?

An important one for me would be: Sometimes you're wrong.
I'm thinking of making a list for myself so I know what I want if it ever gets to a rash decision of big importance or something...

Rand Paul fillibustering Brennon
Rand Paul, angry at the Administration using Drone strikes to kill American citizens, has began a bi-partisan filibuster against Nominee Brennon. He is supported by Democrat Ron Wyden, as well as Rubio, Cornyn, Lee, and a few others.

"Consensus" in science is a ridiculous notion. It is meant to hide the fact that they have no facts, no proof, no evidence to support their claims. They have *flawed* computer models that *never* accurately predict outcomes of the real world climate, and are skewed to always give worst case extreme outcomes.
dipplayer2004 (1310 D)

A) Warming is taking place, but the casual link between human carbon consumption and said warming has not been proven.
B) Even if we wish to be "precautionary" about countering warming, we have to consider the costs and effectiveness of any proposed program. Can we enforce carbon output limits on developing nations like India and China? How? Do we cripple our economy, just because we're better off safe than sorry?
C) Warming may actually have beneficial effects.

"WHY would anyone do this?" you ask?

Money. "Reasearch" funding. You know, just like all those evil oil guys want to "destroy the planet" with their evil oil for the sake of money....so, too, do climate researchers want to keep you in a *constant* state of panic, or else their fraudulant industry will dry up and they will be jobless.

this is why "global warming" is not called "climate change"...because the previous was disproven, so they need some hyped-up catch phrase to keep you hooked and keep their funding in place...
krellin (80 DX)

"SO...smarty pants...why does the temperature go up sometimes...? " you ask.

Look up...it's called THE SUN..and the oil companies did not create it.

i agree with 04 you have to not only to prove that the earth is getting warmer and that co2 is causing it and that we can limit co2 and that warming is somehow catastrophic in order to make your we need to act because it is insane not to argument. if any of those are not true than the whole thing is not true.

and i dont see how really any of them are for sure true. we can maybe limit co2 given how rich the elites are now and how their power has just increased insanely during the economic crisis and if there is a ww3 then you know they will be able to do it afterwards. and we may or may not be warming now.

there was warming until this theory came out. since then there has not been warming. so it is hard to say what the temperature will be in the future. if we could predict that, then these scientists would not have come up with this theory. or before global warming the theory that we were headed for an ice age from global cooling (on the cover of time at one point). who knows, if it turns out we are entering a cooling period is it too late to switch back to the global cooling theory?

My front porch mercury bulb takes about 30 seconds to turn on, and then glows at about half-strength because it's cold outside. All my mercury bulbs that I have used have already been replaced at least once, and I've only tried them for a few years...so claims of longevity have been grossly exaggerated. ..

And the Green/Enviro Profiteers laugh all the way to the bank...

Talk to reality, YJ. Why don't you read the Forbes article and get back to me. Why don't you do a little research on the *real* data behind CO2 changes and temperature.

You are living a political lie...and the sad thing is...this RELIGION of yours...it causes you to deny any contrary FACTS that are presented to you.

Read the article Facses linked to.

@blankflag - Is this far enough back for you?

jimgov (219 D(B))
08 Mar 13 UTC
@Fasces - Did you even check out who wrote the article? It is from Peter Ferrara who is NOT a scientist. He is, however a columnist, lawyer, political analyst and analyst for the Heartland Institute. Ever hear of the Heartland Institute? It is a leading CONSERVATIVE think tank. And check out the most recent article that I posted above. Global climate change is not about year or decade to decade. The information above looks back 11,300 years.
Draugnar (0 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
@jimgov - Please tell me how in the hell they know what the climate was like 11k years ago for certain... Man hadn't even learned to communicate outside of grunts thenmuch less record things to any degree of accuracy like temperature and barometric pressure.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
@Draug -- you are arguing with a religious fanatic. The idea that you can't actually accurately record temperature 11,000 years ago is irrelevant to the faith...
jimgov (219 D(B))
08 Mar 13 UTC
Now that is hilarious. I am anything but a religious fanatic. As a matter of fact, I haven't ever mentioned anything religious on this forum. But, since I don't see things your way, there has to be a name for it. Got cha.

I'm not a scientist. I'm not a climetologist. My guess is, no one else here is. But...I do think that when an overwhelming percentage of scientists think something is true, then it probably is true. Probably. I know that science marches on and changes of thinking do occur. But, I will believe the scientists before I believe someone that just spouts crap off the top of their heads.

And, unlike some people here, I actually read the articles that I link. Here is some of it, for those of you who can't follow a link:

"To get a view on global temperatures that long ago, the researchers studied 73 sediment and polar ice samples, taken from all over the globe. Chemicals found in fossils deep down in the samples span the ages and are good indicators of historic temperatures on Earth, Marcott said.

The scientists did the study to put the global temperature trends into a long-range perspective, Marcott said. Critics of climate change research, which has generally covered the last 1,500 to 2,000 years, have complained that it has been too short-sighted."

So actual scientists have developed a method to determine the temperature of the planet in the distant past, about 11,000 years, and have accounted for the tilt of the earth (which is discussed in the same article). Sounds good to me. Of course, some people will continue to spout the minority position. That's OK. After all, gravity is only a theory.

krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
Jimgov - you believe in climate change, which is essentially a religion for which there is no data to support the hysterical beliefs.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
For example, you cite temperature reading from 11,000 years ago, before there wee thermometers. Pretty amazing stuff there, buddy. that's like believing a man rose from the dead. Magic data...religion.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
I can demonstrate gravity. You can't demonstrate man-made global warming. the data that exists doesn't even back it up.
jimgov (219 D(B))
08 Mar 13 UTC
@krellin - look up the definition of religion. Once again, just because you say something, doesn't make it true.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
scientists (*with an agenda to secure funding*) have "found a way" to make up temperature data from the past that fits their pre-determined models. VERY scientific...

Bravo...the religious nutbags (you) in the pews applaud them loudly and give of their wealth to p\support the priesthood.
jimgov (219 D(B))
08 Mar 13 UTC
@krellin - No. You stopped making sense a while ago. Now you are just trying to save face. Saying it louder or more forcefully doesn't make it true.

And BTW, I said that gravity is a theory. It is. We still don't understand it. You only can see it's results. Not what causes it. Thus the term theory.
krellin (80 DX)
08 Mar 13 UTC
Yes, just because I say something does not make it true...like making up temp data from 11,000 years ago, for example.

Actually, climate change believers demonstrate almost all the attributes of religion...

Point Tax
It seems to me there is a great disparity in the number of pints people have, with some having earned thousands, and other often stuck below 100. It is time to implement a Point Tax, perhaps monthly, to supplement to lower-tiered players who can not/will not earn and save points. Who's in???

Advice to a new online player
Hey--

Although I'm no stranger to board games, or negotiating games (there's a Game of Thrones boardgame that--at least when I play it--includes a Diplomacy-style negotiating phase) I am new to Diplomacy. Needless to say, I'm new to this site as well. As a 30-something high-school history teacher familiar with strategy/negotiation, what is the best advice a long-time player can offer me?

Hi,

This and 11 other accounts I control were created to fill slots in a large game with some friends. We wanted to play the 17 player map with less than 17 people (we are aware of balance issues with this), and our schedules are varied which disallows us from having shorter turns.
