Greetings, Gunboat Snobs and Assorted Rabble.
I'm already late to this thread, so I'll just make a few brief comments.
1) I've signed up for the Spring Gunboat Tourney and am looking forward to playing some good, challenging games in that event. At this point, the tournament games are the only long ones I intend to play, because...
2) I am a live-game junkie. And I'm not particular about the format. As long as it's 5-minute phases on the classic map, I'll play. I've been a fairly regular live-game participant since becoming active on the site about five or six weeks ago. The live games are a lot of fun, and I've enjoyed playing with many of you already. But as you probably know, live games are plagued by NMRs and resignations.
3) So far in my relatively brief webdip career, I've won some, lost some, and drawn a lot. What I'm most proud of is that win, lose or draw, I've played out every position. Regardless of the medium, when I sign on for a game of Diplomacy, I take my commitment to the six other players seriously.
4) So, i guess what I'm really looking for is the opportunity to play live games with dedicated players. I'm sure I'm not alone in that desire. I'm having a lot of fun on webdip. It would be even more fun if there were either a tournament for live games or maybe a regular "league night" for live-game play. If something like that already exists, please point me to it, and if I have to pay my dues first to qualify, I'll pay my dues.
5) Finally, I've got zero free hobby time to invest in organizing either a live-game tournament or a live-game league night. I'm tapped out with all the crap I'm doing for the local and North American face-to-face hobbies. I'm afraid I can participate in this effort as a player only.
So, hopefully someone will step up. In the meantime, I'll off in search of a game.
