6 player variant . which map...?
Hi,
just finishing my work on the colonial map. What map should I do next? It needs to be a well tested 6-player-map, as one of my friends might not be able to play in our next game.

Possible New Statistic?
We have many statistics that are interesting, but there is one missing that I would like to see. Much as there are the total points earned from all the games played, I would like to see the total SCs collected from the games as well. I think the average of the total number of SCs against the number of games played might be a better measure of a player's skill than points. It is still a subjective figure, but I do think it would be interesting.

Seven Captains, Tea, Coffee- and a Dispute over Bulgaria
In this latest installment of "what nerdy scenario will obiwanobiwan throw out there as he's not in the mood to type his Philosphy paper" we have the immortal question:

If Captains Kirk (Shatner/Pine), Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Spock, and Riker all sat down for a game of Diplomacy- who'd place where?

Ankaran Crescent
There was some demand for a game of Ankaran Crescent (OK... It was started by me) so I'm going to create one.

Everyone knows that we start in Switzerland, so I guess my first move will be to the Syria. I submit my math below:

whi ever heard of retreating into Ankara Crescent, it was explicitly omitted from the guide book for a reason.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
Retreats can, however, be made in the same way as any other move, since the Fall 1962 rulebook.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
The Ghostmakers retreat was highly debateable, but since he referenced the notorious 1962 rulebook I say we begin a new game in the interest of saving time.

Since my previous tactic was clearly insufficient I shall start boldly.

Rumania!!
JesusPetry (258 D)

An unusual opening. That could only be countered with a land convoy to London using the Fitzgerald leap in Norway.
Friendly Sword (636 D)
07 Oct 09 UTC
Ah, but a brilliant utilization of the reverse Russian rotation by moi puts me directly into St. Petersburg, placing pressure on Norway and invalidating your move.

Sorry. ;)
rlumley (0 DX)
07 Oct 09 UTC
Hold on here... We said that we were playing with the 1967 rules, didn't we? The 1967 rules specifically forbid Ankaran Retreats... It's in Article 3, section 5 - "No retreat to Ankaran Crescent shall be allowed."

Oh well. Since there have been several posts, we'll just give it to TGM *Glare*

I'll move Norway > GoB.
djbent (2572 D(S))
07 Oct 09 UTC
rlumley, invalid, Friendly Sword moved to St Petersburg, so you'd have to first *move* to Norway, before you can take GoB.

i'll take advantage of the polish wormhole variant, and move to Silesia.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
07 Oct 09 UTC
Give it up rlumley. You yourself said "I'd prefer the newer 1991 rule change that allows the GoB opening, but I'm with the crowd. Let's just go with 1976 like we did last time - it'll make things easier." The 1976 rulebook undid some of the changes from 1967. And thank god!

I declare a famine in the entire Germany territory thus forcing a move from Silesia through Warsaw all the way to Moscow.
Jamiet99uk (758 D)

Moscow eh?

Well obviously I can't move to Sevastopol because of the Odessa directive, so...

Armenia.
Maniac (189 D(B))
08 Oct 09 UTC
Guys I'm sorry to have to rewind eberyone, but TheGhostMaker didn't win the last game and I think if we allow someone to be judge and jury over his own highly debateable retreat then the game would lose some of its appeal. Whilst the Fall 1962 rulebook was designed as the definitive rulebook and is written in such a way it clearly stated in the foreward that it would only become so once all the 27 sactioning bodies had ratified it. The Poles and the Czechs never advanced to full ratification so the 1962 'rulebook' has no standing in our games. The subsequent ammending rulebook of 1976 which merely tidied up all the previous guides, rulebooks, practice notes and directives should be our Bible.

As you will no doubt be aware retreats to Ankara Crescent are expressly omited from the rules and therefore it can't happen.

So back to the original game....

Sevastopol

Due to both an untimely and unfortunate initiation of the "Basement Cleaning Clause" of the 1995 Bridal Treaty of Kansas City, I fear that I must move my army for an undetermined amount of time into..... Switzerland.

Jamiet99uk (758 D)

Livonia? From Switzerland? Surely you're aware that that allows me to use the Reverse Buller?

djbent (2572 D(S))

Heh heh, but the Reverse Buller is so rare, you've forgotten that is allows for a Euclidian Shake.

Aegean Sea.
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
08 Oct 09 UTC
Maniac, I'm afraid your history is incorrect there, shortly before the 1976 rulebook, the Poles ratified the 1962 in protest against the Russian offensive on Warsaw being introduced in the former. The Czech Ankara Crescent association hasn't ratified the 62 rules, but they themselves play under them in all their national tournaments, so we can assume that they would have if it hadn't become impossible after 1976.

Anyway, I'll let you take your decision because I'm still well placed in this game.

Wales.

Back to Switzerland, where I use the Large Hadron Collider to go back in time about 250 million years (before continental drift broke up the Pangaea supercontinent , and hence don't need fleets to move between territories.

Syria.

Jamiet99uk (758 D)
08 Oct 09 UTC
@ Stratagos: That fails. You are trying to make two moves - Switzerland and then Syria.

Your move to Switzerland is ok.

From there I shall move to..... Venice.

Are the Broncos better than the Patriots?
Sometimes. A better question, is are the broncos better than the patriots when Tom Brady is the Patriots' QB? Undoubtedly yes. Denver has gone 5-0 and will continue to win. The pats may have had a chance if Brady could complete a pass or two against our D.
