Russian Opposition Leader Assassinated...Hm...
http://www.latimes.com/world/europe/la-fg-russia-boris-nemtsov-killed-20150227-story.html "A fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Nemtsov had been preparing to join an opposition rally Sunday against the Kremlin leader’s backing of separatists in eastern Ukraine" Yep...totally legit, that Big Bad Vlad...this I know, for Putin33's told me so...

Rape and murder in India
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-31698154

How can a human being be so twisted in their mind that they would calmly argue that a woman who was kidnapped, gang-raped, and murdered, was the one to blame for her fate?

LAPD Officer Shoots and Kills Homeless Man
http://news.yahoo.com/video-shows-los-angeles-police-shooting-homeless-man-060031475.html The video's already generating controversy (you can watch the unedited version on YouTube, I'll post it, they had to edit it for broadcast) so, yeah...what's everyone's opinion on this incident?

Is the game losing its way? (Takes a while to get to the subject)
I was reading about Henry Kissinger last October when I read that he was a fan of a game called Diplomacy. Naturally I was curious, so I looked this game up. No exaggeration, I haven't stopped playing since October. I also found a site: diplomacy-archive.com
It is from there that I learned the secrets and the tricks of the game and where I read many articles written by players of the game DECADES AGO.

Newbie Question
In the Fall of the first year, I convoyed my army from Yorkshire to Norway, using a fleet that was already in the North Sea. It is now the Build phase, but my unit is not in Norway and I'm not being offered a build option for controlling Norway. Did I do something wrong?

Do you play any other awesome board games?
So Diplomacy is doubtlessly a GREAT game - so simple yet so complete. The chess of our times, so on, so on...
But, there are many other good board games. Are there any games you can recommend?
I personally love Twilight Struggle and Through the Ages, while hate Risk.

I've been playing a lot of Advanced Squad Leader lately, in fact, I just got home from the first day of a tournament for it:

Here is a free website I play alot of games on. They have alot of strategy and worker placement oriented games. Stone Age and Puerto Rico are the ones I like but Through the Ages and Race for the Galaxy are popular too.

Thanks dyager! I'll look it over... I have a spare slot, while waiting for Crown of the Gods to switch into beta, and am fed up with beating up people on Lexulous. I dunno if anyone's mentioned this, but Reiner Knizia's Lord of the Rings (the Fantasy Flight game) is a co-operative game where the object is to destroy the Ring while surviving the corrupting influence of Sauron; it's genuinely exciting and one of the few games that requires skill and players of mixed abilities can sensibly play together.

Those who like Agricola and Puerto Rico, should try Caverna. Its about as complex as Agricola (Without the Farmers of the Moors, or any expansion decks), but plays like a mix between Agricola and PR. Plus its fun to be a dwarf family instead of human for a change.

For epic analysis paralysis, Dominant Species is the way to go.

Escape From Colditz, Totopoly, and Buccaneer were all childhood favourites. Scotland Yard is always popular at Christmas these days. The only game I've played that matches the cutthroat nature and intensity of Diplomacy, however, has been DuckTales. Seriously, it was a good five hours of struggle well into the early hours of the morning before we walked away from that one...

Tigris and Euphrates. Plays three or four. Great game. For lighter fare that plays up to 10, I highly recommend the hidden role cars game Saboteur.

1. Stratego (one of the 1st games I ever learned to play)
2. Clue (I'm amazed this hasn't been mentioned)
3. Puerto Rico
4. Axis and Allies (almost impossible to win as the Allies but a fun game regardless)

Just played Twilight Struggle a week ago for the first time. I really didn't think it was all that great. Very similar to Hannibal. Can any of the fans of TS who posted on here shed some light on what they like about it? I've only played once and I want to like it. * Never played Duck Tales but I think Dip is very comparable to poker.
I thought chess was the chess of our time? Either that or Flappy Bird.

I collect board games. I actually prefer a board game to a video game, truth be told. I have about 40 games in my collection (not including kids games). I'd love to get a copy of the following:

Civilizations (not the Cid Meyer's version) (used to own a copy but a friend borrowed it...)
Rail Baron
War of the Ring
Battlemasters (used to own a copy but it went to crap)

Battlemasters was awesome! I couldn't sleep until about 3am on Christmas morning because I knew I was getting that as a presie :p

If you don't like the cannon, then don't play the Empire :)

I also had Heroes Quest, another classic. I put countless hours into each.

I just got War of the Ring! it's quite intimidating with the amount of moving pieces for an Ameritrash game. Unfortunately I could not get the collectors edition because that only runs for like $2000

Game of thrones is one of my favorite board games, other than diplomacy

Pirates Cove is basically like Puerto Rico, except with fighting. It is the same complex yet artistic German style, the same victory point system, and the same strategic balancing of upgrades. The biggest difference is that you can fight with other players. And being Dip players, I'm sure we can ALL appreciate that!

I mean, there's a reason they used to be called "German-style board games". And that the highest award in boardgaming is the Spiel des Jahres

basic gunboat strategy
does anyone have an article or whatever on various gunboat strategies for all 7 countries say from spring 1901-autumn 1902? after that, im assuming the board will be unique enough to warrant a unique strategy but i want to know about different opening options in the beginning of the game. thanks!
