How bad is a beer and approximately a bottle of wine on one evening?
Judging by what others at the party talked about I thought it was reasonable (although a bit more than I was going for, I really liked the wine...), but yet others seem to think it's quite too much. There were people more drunk than me, but I won't base my drinking habits on what others do..
It was the first time I 'really' drank, probably worth mentioning.

Well I've been collecting for 10+ years and have a cellar with 400+ bottles. Just because you say you talk to a sommelier means nothing.

"Not really, how much do you want to spend, and what type do you like to drink?"

If it wasn't a crapshoot, wine consultants would be out of jobs.

$15 range. I like red southern Rhone blends and Alsatian whites.

From http://www.netherlands-tourism.com/legal-drinking-age-increased-18/ :
<<Since the first of january 2014 the legal drinking age in the Netherlands has been increased by two years from 16 to 18 years. The government hopes to soon see results in the behaviour of the youth, however expects it could take up to a year to really see results. One of the main reasons for the change in the legal drinking age is the increased health effects alcohol has on young people. The government explains that a developing brain can be seriously harmed by alcohol. In response to the fact that the brain continues to grow into the mid 20s, the government has stated that the line has to be drawn somewhere.
I’ve looked up some fact and found that the average age when a person drinks alcohol for the first time is 13.1 and from 15 to 16 years of age people start to drink in larger quantities. In 2012 706 persons under the age of 18 where rushed to the hospital because of alcohol consumption. Nothing wrong in trying to change those figures in my opinion!>>

Everyone pallet is different..what's good to me is not necessarily good to someone else. It's one of the great aspects to drinking wine.so many types and styles.

ssorenn, he said he doesn't drink it enough to consult a sommelier, not that he only takes suggestions from sommelier.

Putin, if you would tell us what characteristics of wine that you enjoy, it would be much easier to make suggestions.

Well trip, if you want to be a bitch, Putin said, he like southern Rhine blends and Alsatian whites. Don't fucking correct me, and make the same mistake yourself

" if you would tell us what characteristics of wine that you enjoy"

Don't know if you saw earlier.

I like red southern Rhone blends and Alsatian whites. A brand I really like is E. Guigal for the former and Gustave Lorentz for the latter.

Generally like middle of the road wines in terms of dryness/sweetness. I try to err on the dryer side with whites, sweeter side with reds.

I forgot to "Refresh" before posting.

Good $15 Rhone Valley wines may be hard to come by outside of Cotes du Rhone AOC, and perhaps Villages AOC. You might be better off looking for Syrahs and Grenaches (the heavyweights of that region) from Austrialia, Cali, and South America. For whites, I would suggest off-dry Rieslings, which have much more balance than traditional ones. Pinot Blanc or Gris could be a couple other grapes that you might enjoy.

I have a lot of Cali, and Australian Syrah,Shiraz. Great value can come from South America as well. The Argentina and Chilean coasts make some great wine.

@ ssorenn: You read Putin's post and misunderstood it. I didn't see his post and asked a question that he had already answered. Not the same thing.

Anyway, I was just pointing out that you had misunderstood him.

I like to see people who appreciate a good bottle. You can spend ungodly amounts of money I wine, that's easy, but you can also drink great juice at a reasonable price, trial and error is fun in that regard.
i go to uni in the uk, and i can say that whilst a bottle of wine and a beer is a 'decent' amount, the vast majority of students will drink more than that, consistently. the uk is a bit of a binge culture though.
i do definitely agree with partysane - steephie, why do you ask the forum for so much advice so regularly?

also, and on a slightly (but not necessarily) seperate note, one thing i really hate about the forum is when people post things just to 'look cool'. i'll get a lot of hate for this, but i feel bo is a prime example, as is possibly steephie.

This is just stupid. You're still underage, mind you.
I don't exactly disapprove of drinking underage, but still dumb to ever say this out loud.

Thanks damian, that's helpful. I'm familiar with the Dutch version of BAC but I didn't know that formula. If you're right about the 4 standard drinks, that means about 0.055% for me and I can live with what it says about that, even if I assume one level worse, just to be on the safe side. Hell, if I had a driver's license I would almost be allowed to drive :)
Don't worry though people, I'll still try to drink less next party, so I can't accidently get near 0.10%, which looks like what I would consider a real increased risk and everything. Although not that bad still, I like being on the safe side quite a bit.

@Putin: haha good question. I don't even think I forgot, I never bothered to memorize the name :-)
I might ask if I find the opportunity to do so without making it sound too much like I want to get myself drunk again.
It might just be that I remembered considering Grolsch disgusting and didn't like Bavaria either so was just happy that I liked white wine and made it a bit more delicious in my head than it actually was though...

@cardcollector: I point out again that I did nothing illegal, just read back if you want to know why. If there would have been police there, it shouldn't change a thing because no one broke the law.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
06 Jul 14 UTC
@SD:
If I'm going to spend time on these forums anyway, I might as well ask useful questions, no?
I'm also not asking advice at all. It has already happened, whatever you people say won't change my behaviour since I'm already planning to drink less next time, although I suppose it could have changed my behaviour if the formula that damian gave would have given a worse result I suppose.

I was just curious. I don't see why this thread would be any more worrisome for people than most threads around here such as "You can beat and kill Palestinians kids......".

It's not a loaded question or anything, not for me at least, I'm just curious.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
06 Jul 14 UTC
It's just based on personal 'news' rather than some news article. Big deal?
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))
06 Jul 14 UTC
Bullshit that Grolsch and Heineken are bad lagers, they are very nice. They are not the kings of lager but they are very drinkable.
With wines Chilean reds have never let me down
how is it a 'useful question' if you aren't looking for advice at all? so what where you curious about? and how was the forum a better place to ask the question than google (or another search engine)? i just think you do post a lot of questions, that i'm not sure why you do. not an attack, more of an observation

and in the kindest possible way, you having a bottle of wine and a beer isn't as interesting as "some news article" about palestinian kids getting killed. if you do want to post "personal news" all the time, maybe you should have a thread entitled "mundane events in steephie's life, for all that want to read"

Decently priced Syrahs (or Rhone wine, I'm not really educated on subject enough to tell the difference but I gather they're similar) are a little tough to come by here. I've been leaning towards South African Syrahs - particularly Wolftrap.

There is a fantastic website called wtso.com. Great site to buy wine from everything 30-70% off. If you order their minimum there is not tax and no shipping.

First Game!
Hello all, I plan on joining my first game. I've mainly used the site to read the forums so now I need advice. Is it better to join a random pre-made game or should I request players from the forum so as to ensure it is a good game. If the latter, then if you are interested please post here. Ideally I would like to start the game next week. Anon, WTA, and a medium buy-in. Look forward to it!

Design Flaw in the Global Variant
I have now encountered several times a design flaw in the global variant in that fleets may not pass between Armenia and Moscow (which has a Black Sea Coastline bordering Armenia); neither can they support an action between them. Armies may move and support unimpeded; but fleets may not. What is to be done about that? Game Masters, please respond.

Anyone else watching the war of Tumblr vs. 4Chan play out? It's getting heated and somewhat illegal. Then again, it may not and it's all a bluff from both sides. But if it is true then there must be a lot of hackers with free-time and no need to gain any monetary value.
