dirge - I have recieved constructiove comments on my in-progress google doc, and on a complete story that I put up in the website, and I intend to read one or two of the posted stories there this weekend and offer comment (but I need time and proper quiet to do a decent review).
Here's the thing:
Writing is a process that takes time.
Properly reviewing writing – depending on whether it is a full edit of the writing, versus just general commentary on the content, takes time.
I’ve read about different writer’s groups, and it seems that typically they work on a schedule – people meet (these were about F2F groups), exchange writing to review and then discuss. Obviously that isn’t going to work. So, perhaps what we need to do is this:
1. Set a schedule – have a regular time frame in which we will start the discussion of a writing
2. Have people seeking review post their content at least a week prior to review date
3. Have limited expectations – maybe only expect up to the first 5000 words reviewed (we can discuss this)
4. Maybe partner up, so instead of everyone having to read everything, each person has 1 or 2 assigned readings to comment on, and can also read and comment on others if they want to, have the time, etc.
5. Rotate partners for each scheduled discussion period
Does that sound like a decent start to structure this?
