An All-Male Discussion on Feminism, "Feminism," and Atheism...This Should Be Fun...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKKQdJR7F_I Frankly, I think that's a fair point--these people do NOT represent a very good side of either feminism or atheism, in my opinion...there's Feminism, and then there's "Feminism" or, as it might otherwise be put, "Demanding that everyone agree with your views full stop or else libeling them." Real feminism and real atheism is, I think, being somewhat "poisoned" by this increasingly-smug, self-assured band of PC Police.

CD or hold everything?
I'm in a gunboat at the moment where one of the players - who has no shot at winning anymore - has decided to hold every turn giving SCs to the largest player, in effect throwing the game. I'd prefer if he would just CD so we can get somebody else. Are there any (un)written good practices?

Godwin's law means that if you can make a moral claim without referring to Hitler, you should. Jumping straight to Hitler comparisons is intellectually lazy and can easily be interpreted as making light of the horror of the holocaust.

I'm actually with you on a lot of these things - my personal background makes me particularly sensitive to Wilson's terrible treatment of conscientious objectors - so I wish you would stop weakening your arguments with ludicrous Hilter comparisons.
Sbyvl36 (439 D)

After 20 long years of Democrat rule, Dwight D. Eisenhower was elected in 1952. Eisenhower presided over a period of peace and prosperity, ending the Korean War and adhering to Free market principles. However, since the Dems controlled Congress, he wasn't able to get rid of the New Deal. But he made progress on Civil Rights, sending Federal troops to Arkansas to ensure that African Americans could attend school. Thus, we can say Eisenhower was an above average president.

Abraham Lincoln. Commonly thought of as one of history's greatest leaders and the best President ever, Lincoln freed the slaves, reunited the Union, and set a precedent for leadership in Washington that continues to be emulated to this day. Unfortunately, he also increased federal spending on a costly and drawn out war that ultimately trampled on states' rights, making him one of the worst Presidents.

George Washington. Hero of the American Revolution, father of our country, figurehead of a new nation, and first President of the United States. Washington is the quintessential American icon and a President from whom all others have drawn inspiration. Also set a dangerous precedent that a federal government should take in tax dollars and spend them, making him ultimately one of the worst Presidents in history.

John Adams. One of the most enlightened and scholarly Presidents, he had the legal prowess and principle to stand up for wrongly accused British soldiers during the Boston Massacre, despite public outrage against the accused. Became one of our most underrated Presidents, left after one term due to a hatred of the American political process. Also took the already massive federal deficit created by that bum George Washington and continued the unholy tradition of spending money on a new country, which cast him deep into the depths of hell containing our worst Presidents ever.

Herbert Hoover. A shrewd businessman and one of the most successful people of the early 20th century, Hoover took his business acumen to Washington and presided over one of the most fruitful administrations of all time. He was so beloved by the citizens for cutting our taxes and lowering spending that people renamed their cities "Hoovervilles" in his honor. Thousands of the capitalist havens sprang up in inner cities and rural areas almost overnight. Many of his pro-business policies were undone by that bastard FDR, but Hoover still remains one of our best Presidents ever.

Sbyvl: Eisenhower, like Hitler, helped create a system of national highways. Does that make him a mini-Hitler as well?

I'm pretty sure the Eisenhower highway system was much bigger than Germany's at the time. Thus, it would be more accurate to argue that Hitler was a mini-Eisenhower.

I didn't actually see that this thread was just for Presidents of the past century, so my fault there. I really didn't need to write about Washington, Adams, and Lincoln anyway, it's almost universally regarded that they were shitty Presidents.

I'd like to add that TC does a much better job of skewering politicians. Sbyvl's posts leave a lot to be desired as far as crackpots go.

"The Great Depression actually was over by 1934"

Wow, that's some fancy re-writing of history...

On a related note, did you know WWII was actually over by 1941, and the whole Pearl Harbor thing was a big hoax by the (of course) Jewish-run press to send America to war and make money off the war effort (because, like, that's what Jews do, right?) and the Holocaust was total fiction and Adolf Hitler was one of the most successful painters in world history as well?

True facts in the Sybvyl world!

Also, I missed this the first time, but the argument that Roosevelt knew about Pearl Harbor ahead of time, but chose to do nothing about it, is obviously wrong in light of the historical record and more than a minute of actual thought about it.

Since I know nothing of Coolidge, Harding and Taft and only know Wilson for WW1 but nothing about his domestic policy, I will only be ranking the presidents from Herbert Hoover on:
1. Eisenhower
2. Reagan
3. Clinton
4. Kennedy
5. Truman
6. Ford
7. Johnson
8. Bush Jr
9. Bush Sr
10. Obama
11. Hoover
12. Nixon
13. Roosevelt

Sorry Faces--

Rating Dubya Bush higher than FDR (and, at that, rating Dubya ahead of Daddy Bush) is a Grade 1 Rankings Failure.

4 terms through the Great Depression and WWII...
1 term and a quick curbstomping of Saddam...
2 terms and an economy in shambles, 2 wars he failed to win, an historically-low approval rating, AND not only putting off nearly all our non-Israel allies, but by his very presence causing the international community to wonder if America had, in fact, elected someone even thicker than Billy Carter and Homer Simpson combined.

Yeah.

Dubya over Daddy Bsuh, over FDR...no.
Over pretty much any of those presidents sans Hoover...no.

Even if you hate Obama, it's hard to make the case Dubya was any better.

So...no. ;)

So, the point of all this trolling is to argue that the New Deal was a disaster for America, and that the Democrats going back to Wilson are Socialists? Are you an idiot?

FDR took over in 1932. The US Economy was in shambles, with millions of people out of work. When Roosevelt/Truman left office 20 years later, the US economy was in the middle of the largest boom in history, and the US was the worlds dominant economic, military and cultuaral power. Those are facts that are beyond argument. So, if you believe that Roosevelt and Truman were socialists, you must believe that Socialism is responsible for the United States' ascension on the world stage!

No.
Not even close.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

There have been presidents I have hated--

NONE came remotely close to Hitler, and frankly, your comparing any of them to him is rather an insult not just to our collective intelligence, but to those who suffered at the hands of the genuine article.

So quit comparing every politician you dislike to Hitler.

It's not clever, and frankly, neither are you.
