I think part of the problem with the constant flip flop of a three-way situation is that it will continue flipping forever until people finally agree to get over it.. nobody will let anyone solo. That's why I ask if we can coordinate the making of a stalemate line.

I say one revision owuld be in the case of a three way if it keeps flip flopping and people are trying that, after 5 years, they should be allow to say it is a stalemate without the actual line.

Draug, i think in ur game that could've counted as abge and krellin teaming up to hold u back. idk what his fleet was doing in tyr sea but that would give him some decent leverage over abge in trying to convince him to team up, at least temporarily

I don't think it would actually be two hard. Set one power up with a more minimal stalemate line and then they can draw on a technicality if they want. I've seen games go thirty years with continual flip-flopping and repeated near solos though. I think it would be fun.

Well, if this were a gunboat, I would agree with you, ghug, but since this is a press game, I'd only be satisfied with no pause on Christmas if we manage to put builds or retreats over that day.

Ok, I ve read through the posts and consider bosox's concern about 3 players flip flopping. This is true but those three players can negotiate a stalemate line if they chose. That alone would be interesting to do but the essential rule must be maintained. If the 3 players can't seem to find a winner then they must negotiate a stalemate. There is also the fact that 2 players can agree to kill the third player and negotiate a 2 player stalemate or to see who can reach 18 first. The 3 player flip flop need only apply if players are afraid that someone else will win. That is our usual mentality but in this game someone is suppose to win unless a stalemate makes it impossible. The draw concept should be removed from all players minds. If 3 players are left, 1 must die so that 1 of the remaining 2 can win. I think that in this series there will be more games ending with wins than draws which is how it should be I think. This is why I'll create a ratings system based solely on this style of game.

As for others who have interest in playing this style of game please do. The rules must be the same although time and points can be determined by yourselves.

I think that all games following this format should have the same title so that it is perfectly clear that when joining the game you have agreed to those rules and can therefore be held accountable to following those rules. It will also allow us to ask a Mod for help if a problem arises.

The rules:
1) A draw can only happen when the board is in a stalemate position.
2) Games must be WTA
3) Pauses must be accepted. 1 week maximum. If a player needs more than a week then they must find a sitter. The sitter must be told the rules before accepting and will be held accountable as well.
4) If a player resigns the game must be paused until a replacement is found.
5) If a player misses 3 turns throughout the course of the game then they are out and a replacement must be found.
6) Once a stalemate has been reached a player has 2 years maximum to break the stalemate. At which point they must vote Draw if the others players have done so.

I think that's it. Can anyone think of another rule that needs to be added to this list?

Rules:
7) Games must be titled, "Stalemate Series". This way all rules can be enforced and we'll all know that the results of the game are based on these rules.

If we can get enough players involved I'll work with some of you to set up a standings and list of series players that we can use for bragging rights and for finding players for future games. Anyone who wants to do this can make their own games under this title and the rules shall be applied and the results will be counted in the series standings.

So, without further ado...

One thing I do is sendbthe rules as part od thr invite along with the phrase "joinging this game is acceptance of these rules) and send a copy of the invite to the mods sans the password as well as post it here. Then the mods have everthing they need to adjudicate a dispte should someone break said rules.

The only addendum is the flipflop rule on 3 way draws where the players are fairly even so no proper stalemate but a political one as one will get a little bigger then the other two will push back thing. That is a stalemate just without a line.

I'd say the three must play at least 5 game years after the #4 nation is eleiminated trying to get a win before they can draw. This will force them to try but not drag the game to infinity and beyond.

I agree with the five year limit. If no one can get the win in 5 years then it is better to have some kind of ending. I'll add that to the rules and I'll take your advice about mailing it to them as well. Thanks Draugnar.

I don't think it would be too hard for two of the three players to retreat some and form a stalemate against the third.

No problem Alderian and I also agree that 3 players should be able to come up with a solution but the 5 years rule is a good safety measure as I'd hate to force people to play a game for the rest of their lives.
