What the hell has happened to double yolk eggs?
Seriously now, where did they go? There were never huge numbers of them, but they cropped up every now and then to provide unparalleled excitement at the breakfast table. Now they seem to have vanished into the murky depths of history along with the space shuttle and the cream that used to float on top of a pint of milk.

Is this evidence that humanity is in terminal decline?

Can someone explain why I keep seeing this in basically every thread (not to me, mind; just in general)? Did someone keep saying it and now it's sort of an ironic in-joke? I don't understand!

Since there seem to be a bunch of video gamers on here I was curious if anyone else had a favorite theme from a video game.

I personally love the opening theme from Final Fantasy 4 (2 in the states).

Teaching Gravity in School
Gravity is not proven and is called the theory of gravity, not the law of gravity. Since its only a theory it shouldn't be taught in school as there is insufficient evidence to prove that things fall towards the ground when dropped.

What if the power of a god were proportional to the number of followers he has?
Assume the god/gods of each religion have divine power proportional to the number of followers. Assume also that gods can carry out divine intervention.
What would happen to the world? Please only consider religions that have a considerable following in the modern day.

Walking Dead redeemed?
Just watched the season finale and it almost makes watching the rest of the show worth it. I won't give you any spoilers but, if you're watching it because you're a fan of the comic and keep waiting for it to get good, watch the finale.

I watched the first season but it didn't get me excited.
I was determined to watch the 2nd season and give it a chance.
But... my brother gave me the DVD's of Dexter's 1st season and I got completely addicted to Dexter.
I'm in the 5th season and I can't think about watching Walking Dead now :)
Anyone is fan of Dexter?

I thought the first season was a little dry too. It only had a couple good episodes. The second season started bad (who cares about Sophia?) but had a fucking awesome ending. (Hershel and his 12-gauge, Glenn and his 12-gauge, Rick and his knife? Shane dead? Fuck yeah!)
Alderian (2425 D(S))

I've watched the first three seasons of Dexter. Will work through the others when I get a chance. Great show.

Back to WD, regarding leaving the farm, the writers should have found a way to destroy the actual house. Maybe flaming zombies from the barn make it to the front porch and catch it on fire too although that would be a bit of a stretch. So how about the guy driving the RV on the RV rescue doesn't die so soon. What's their names get on top and he drives back towards the house with some flaming zombies on the windshield causing him to crash into the house, tossing the flaming zombies onto the porch. Just give me SOMETHING that makes sense.
Yonni (136 D(S))
21 Mar 12 UTC
^Yeah, that would've been awesome. Would've loved to see Hershel's reaction. My only thinking is that they didn't want to actually burn down the house (or build a replica only to burn it down)
I keep seeing people seeing Dale as dead weight he was my favorite character. How can he be more dead weight than Carol. The whiny old woman with a crush on the redneck which is my second favorite character. Plus the comic spoilers are not real spoilers. They might not do them. I was looking forward to Carl shooting Shane so he would stop being such an annoying kid and grow up.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
21 Mar 12 UTC
My favorite characters:

1) Rick Grimes
2) Daryl Dixon
3) Glen
4) Hershel
5) T-Dog (By default. Everyone after him is an annoying/poor character and everyone before him is a badass)
6) Carl Grimes
7) Maggie
8) Andrea
9) Lori Grimes
10) Carol
Alderian (2425 D(S))

@HC, personally I didn't see Dale as what one would normally think of as dead weight. I saw him as a weight, slowing the rest down on adjusting to the new way of life that they must embrace to survive and even possibly thrive. More of a live weight than a dead weight.
He was just trying to point out that they needed to rebuild society not throw it away and fear anyone new. They were going to kill Randal because of what he might do not because he did something wrong. Rick killed those two guys and for all they know he might of just straight up shot them. I just hope they get rid of Carol. I can't stand her. I wish they would get rid of Andrea because she acts like she has something to prove and she knows best but I know they won't.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)
21 Mar 12 UTC
I'll second that, HC. Dale was useful as the group's conscience (I think he had superseded Rick in that role in that third-to-last episode when they almost executed Randall.

What's the point of surviving the apocalypse if you don't even act like human beings?

What's the definition of a human being? That phrase seems to be used to describe our current moral and ethical values. But with rougher times comes rougher choices, and that's where Dale was slowing them down. As Rick said at the end, it isn't a democracy anymore, it can't be. If it was a democracy the women folk would have gotten everyone running around at shadows because they heard a scary noise rather than hunkering down in a fortified structure.

As with everything, Dale had his pros and his cons. Even him being the group's conscience had pros and cons. IMHO the cons were starting to outweigh the pros.

Just because they move to a more authoritarian government structure, out of necessity, doesn't make them not human.

As for Randal, he was captured during a combat between the two "tribes". He was an enemy warrior who knew where they lived, and could bring hell down upon them. Letting him go at that point was not an acceptable risk. It again comes down to weigh pros and cons and realizing that priorities have changed from pre-zombie-Apocalypse to after. Those priority changes changed how the equation worked out and Rick was having a hard time accepting the proper outcome.

The only other reasonable choice in dealing with Randal would be to let him go and abandon the farm. That's irony for you of course. If only they'd known they would be moving on, they could have let him go.

@ Alderian

"What's the definition of a human being? That phrase seems to be used to describe our current moral and ethical values."

Right, but basic universal moral and ethical values shouldn't change a whole lot, even during a zombie apocalypse. What's the point of surviving as a human being if you don't act like one?

"But with rougher times comes rougher choices"

I would agree with you if you mean "tougher choices". Decision-making is never easy, especially in a zombie apocalypse. But at the end of the day, you have to be able to live with yourself.

"Just because they move to a more authoritarian government structure, out of necessity, doesn't make them not human."

Of course not. I was referring to the decision to execute Randall. That was cold-blooded. Randall was obviously a scared teenage kid. The truth is that it would take a very cold-hearted son of a bitch to shoot a kid who had the misfortune of falling in with a bad group of survivors and subsequently being impaled on a fencepost and captured.

"As with everything, Dale had his pros and his cons. Even him being the group's conscience had pros and cons. IMHO the cons were starting to outweigh the pros."

I will admit that he was a weaker member of the group, but he was still useful as a sentry and knew how to maintain the RV, which could have continued to serve as shelter if it hadn't been lost during the defense of the farm. I would have much rather preferred them to kill off Carol or even Andrea.
Yes, kill Carol. I can't stand her she ticks me off so bad. I agree that I don't like Andrea because she is cocky. She shot Dayrl because she wanted to prove something that didn't need to be approved and shooting one zombie is a dumb choice just stab them quiet and no bullets wasted. However they won't kill Andrea, or least I doubt she survived in the comics but so did Sophia and we know how that turned out. The main reason they won't kill her is because she is the only positive female on there. Carol whines, Lori is a bitch, and Maggie and her sister are too new. But yea kill Carol off plz.
Vaftrudner (2533 D)
21 Mar 12 UTC
Andrea is awesome, she's the only woman who hasn't automatically reverted to stupid old gender roles as soon as they got to the farm. Everyone's cocky. I suspect you just hate women. That would explain you being anti-choice too.
@Vaftrudner

Don't ruin this thread with they political bullshit. I am sorry that I say the child should have a right to live. Plus look what I said Andrea is the only positive female left on the show. The only reason I don't like her is because she rejects helping the other women out with the farms is because she doesn't want to be a stereotype and the second reason is because everyone on the farm knows she can wield a gun just as well as the rest of them. However she thinks she knows better than everyone else and they are just holding her back for not shooting anything she sees that moves.

She learned her lesson. And I was mostly joking. Mostly.

SPOILER - I'm glad Andrea made it in the finale. It would have been a great way to go out if she didn't, but there's still a lot to do with that character.
HUGE SPOILER - and now they are adding another fan favorite female cast member Michoinne. Plus they have reported to have cast the govener as well I am excited for that.

Choices:

1. Let Randall join the community
a. Randal joins the community and the community prospers
b. Randal sneaks off and is never seen from again
c. Randal sneaks off and brings back his friends and many people die
d. Randal kills one or more people while leaving and brings back his friends to kill more
(outcomes C and D likely include enslavement and rape of the women.)

2. Drop Randal off away from the farm
a. Randal is never seen again
b. Randal brings back his friends and many people die (or enslaved/raped)

3. Execute Randal
a. Randal is never seen again

In our current society, at least the one I live in, the worse outcomes are unlikely and it is easier to say that choice 1 or 2 is the right thing to do. In the world of the Walking Dead, those worse outcomes are highly likely. Choice 3 may be cold blooded, but I submit necessary. I guess I'm a cold hearted son of a bitch to not risk my people so.

Really though, do either you or I really know what we'd do if actually faced with these situations? I think I know what I would do but I know that I don't really know what I'd do.
taustin282 (100 D)

We can't lose our humanity and what makes us a civilized society! Dale was perfectly correct in that statement and he was the only one who still had faith in life; everyone else has given in to what they believe is inevitable. They all think that they will be wallowing in a life of shit for the rest of their days, whereas Dale constantly reminded them of who they were: human beings.
Death before dishonor. I think that would've been Dale's motto.

Randall (correct spelling) could have been held prisoner and forced to do light manual labor for the group until the group trusted him enough to allow him to become a full member of the group. Also, he mentioned that he meant to the same high school as Maggie. Maggie could have verified his identity which might have been just enough trust to not execute him. Thirdly, if I were Randall, I would not return to a morally questionable group of thugs that left me for dead when I got severely injured.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
22 Mar 12 UTC
He also mentioned that Maggie wouldn't recognize him.

Use him for light manual labor? There are guns all over, you'd have to have two people watching him at all times to be semi-safe, not exactly endearing him to you.

Third, you would yes. That doesn't meant that everyone would. He could be some punk that would love to go back to his group, which could include family for all we or they know, and bring them this huge prize of a safe haven to take over, supplies, and women to rape. Such a big prize could do great things for him within that group he was a part of. You know you wouldn't do it, but you don't know if Randall would do it, and the farm group didn't know either. All they did know is that it would be a very, very, very serious risk.

Just because the group they ran across in Atlanta turned out to be a bunch of saints, doesn't mean every group will.

In any case, I don't know that there is value going on, we've both stated our sides and I doubt we'll change our minds.
Dale was trying to do the right thing they all saw it ending with each one of them dying one by one and Dale thought they needed to keep hope. However, I would have been very cautious about Randall. Randall did prove he wanted to go back to his friends all along and that he liked the guys he ran around with. I don't understand though why they thought he knew where their farm was. I go to school with a lot of people but I don't know where the majority live.

@Holy Crusader
Good point about not knowing where anybody at school lives.
@Aldrian and Gunfighter
Randall, frankly, was a pussy with a small brain and a people pleaser. If he were released, he would've ran straight back to his group in fear of being gotten by zombies. He then would've been like hey guys come check out this awesome place I found. Then he would've either talked himself up about it or asked them not to rape Maggie cause he knew her, which they would probably do anyway.
