Any One at FSU or who lives in Tallahassee?
I'm moving up there in less than two weeks to start college, and I'd love to start a diplomacy club, or just play ftf games with anyone from the site who lives in town.

Historical Dates Game
We played a game similar to this a while back and it was lots of fun. You name a date, and whoever guesses what historical event happened then gets to name the next date. So on and so forth. No internet searches please.

"Russia NOOO!!!"
This is the post game discussion thread for gameID=65556 . I was England, despite a good start (minus some early wonky mess up orders with my army that really didnt matter too much) I feel like I lost focus through half the battle and once france dropped out I was in an odd position. A strong juggernaught through most of the game. I was hoping and praying it would have crumbled earlier than it did and was just cringing as russia kept going west. Once his belly was popped it was over though.

Paused Games...
OK, the mod email is filled with requests to unpause games. Here are some pointers to help us out in getting those games unpaused.

If you are playing for points... make sure its 101 or greater.
Too many Multis again... I'm not going to name names or point fingers since we can't but it's getting to the point where I am playing half the time with multis and losing an assload of points. They are getting even more clever and using a new "slave" account every few games. Watch out fellow fair players.

Yo, I own Draugnar's ULTRAULTIMATE PORTABLE DICTIONARY BFG OVER 9000 now! Quick check: diplomatise - stab, collect things - steal, earn ranks and stuff - masking one's low self-esteem with worthless virtual appraisal. In other words, nothing new. Everyone please stay clear of Sargmacher IRL, he conquers Belle Epoque Europe in his free time and has all the personal traits for being good a t it.

I would preffer if everyone acted as if I didn't post anything, I'm a very shy person and public attention gives me goosebumps. Especially when I'm rushing through zultar's iron ration of crack and related stuff.

I'm in late, but I liked alpha centauri most of the 'civ' franchise. You get to make your own units and such...

and Sarg, the Gaians were the best, and always my fav faction. They got the native lifeforms (worms) early, they upgraded fast, and while they were pathetic on defense, their offensive abilities were unstoppable (especially early in the game).
Draugnar (0 DX)

@Sargmacher - It has ground missions / away teams, and you do progress in rank, collect shoit for your away team and for your ship. You train your captain (you) and crew) NPC "pets" that you control directly or let run indirectly. Your missions can be everythign from combat to collect items to simple "go here and talk to so and so". Pretty much everything in WoW is available in some form in STO.

For teamwork, you can team with other ships in space or build an away team of freind's captains for ground missions. But the nice thing is a well trained crew will let you do the ground missions solo for the most part. You don't have to be on when your friends are to run a mission, but if you are, you all just take your captains with no extra crew and run them.

I will just have to play larger pot games *which I want to do anyway* rather than play for 30-50 like I normally do since the vast majority of multis are under 101. I wish players would play those games though. I really don't get the mentality of playing for anything under 30 D anyway in live games. On the civ hijack (I don't really mind) I loved Civ: Call to Power which was like civ on crack in the late 90s and then 3 and 4 also great (Go Persians!!!!) and I was one of the higher ranked players in online Civ Revolution for X Box, in which case it was really only a choice between the Zulus or Greeks.

@Fortknox: Spot on, especially with the making your own units aspect. I don't know why they didn't carry that forward with the new Civ games. Alpha Centauri had some create ideas.
Octavious (2701 D)

I wasted far too many hours on alpha centauri. The University was my favourite faction, although I did have a soft spot for the Morganites as they always seemed to be competing with the Believers to be the first to go. The designing units aspect was great, until you figured out one that was cheap and highly effective that made winning too easy. Did anyone else find that the bad guys seemed to be able to nuke you from anywhere despite minor details such as missle range?
ulytau (541 D)
12 Aug 11 UTC
When it comes to designing your own units, nothing beats Aurora, a 4X game so hardcore that setting it up properly is a full-fledged game in itself. Indeed, the time I spent on actually playing that game was an order of magnitude lower than the time spent on micromanagement, enacting various preparatory measures and similar bureaucratic junk. That game will kill you.

Kind of roaming off topic, but where/how do we report multis? I'm playing the game listed below and it sure looks like Europe was Russia's puppet.

Email the mods?! The point is that the botnets have taken over.
EVERY dip game or variant Game now standing that is not now unpaused by now should be wiped out, since the BOTNETS cannot unpause.
PLAY Hardball Kestas.

What? If you have figured out a way to program a botnet that can play diplomacy you could probably make some money off of that, since I'm pretty sure an efficient one has not been created.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

That is not true. The Czech is one. He is a multi AND a bot. He is a meta-multibot who likes to play with himself.

Octavious: The believers were the WORST. Nothing but loyal to you, then one day the leader wakes up and has a dream where god spoke to her and he wants her to take you out. It's completely random! "God told me to kill you". I -always- took her out first. No need for crazies, thank you...

CONSERVATIVE MAN
Funny....the littel boy calls himself a "man",and yet so very often his posts are whiny, bitchy, little-boy posts asking for basic relationship advice. Since he knows mostly nothing about anything....should he have to change his name?

He is a dumbfuck, both poltiically and socially. How pathetic.....but I'm sure his Mommy is proud of him....<sigh...> (I hear she has a *firm grip* Isn't that right, eh? ConservativeMan???

Civil Discourse
I have always enjpyed civil discourse, where I can have a battle of philosophy, theology and history with someone while maintaining civil. With that in mind, I am thinking of going to a local mosque and asking if there is someone that would participate in an interfaith discussion. Are there others who enjoy this type of thing, or am I weird in this.

Can anyone critique my essay?
This is an essay for my English summer assignment. Note that I'm a sophomore in high school, so don't expect it to sound like an English major wrote it. Also, it's about a mentor of mine, dead or alive. I chose Jesus, and I hope that the atheists on here are unbiased enough to give a good review.

I currently don't have mod status, and most of the mods are on vacations, so fortknox has been handling all the unpause requests himself.

Thank you for your patience while we sort this out. Remember, you can upause games yourself by all voting to Unpause ingame.

Can we program a semi-anon variant to decrease likelihood of multi and meta cheaters?
The variant will show who's playing but not what country he or she is playing. Then the players are able to spot metagamers and possibly multi cheaters right away.
Please give feedback on idea and feasibility.

Thank You, Geofram!
I just wanted to publicly recognize Geofram for sitting for me for an extended period of time in which I had no time to properly pursue my Diplomacy games. He stepped up when I didn't have anyone to ask and ensured my opponents had an opponent instead of a CD.

Why post this in the forum? He deserves the kudos, and anyone who thinks more highly of him for this is icing on the cake.

So ... what's the point of Gunboat?

I thought the draw of Diplomacy was supposed to be the wheeling, dealing and cajoling. I don't understand the appeal of taking away messaging.

Downtime info
The database was down for ~1 hour 30 minutes. I've added 3 hours to games to compensate.
The downtime was due to an automatic mysql update script but no script to restart the mysql service, which I've now added in. Apologies for the inconvenience

Registration
It is impossible to register to this game since the switch to the dedicated server, the validation page just refreshes. 6 of our group is already registered, but we cannot (and will not) start a game without the seventh member. If it is a browser issue, IExplorer, Firefox and Chrome are displaying this error.

Hope this will get resolved soon, I'm eager to play with my friends.
