Those who are worried about the length of the phase - please note that the retreats and build phases are very very slow with 17 players - anything that starts with more than a 24 hour phase is likely to be a very very slow game overall.

I also would suggest that we have an honour agreement to pay a fine for NMR's (perhaps allow one for fairness) but a whopping hit for going CD.

And that whoever draws China is allowed one completely free move at the start!

the idea to pay a fine is great. cd´s really ruins a world map game. as for china getting a free move I am not so sure. there are serveral other nations that are in a bad position(europe, near-east etc.) that could claim a free move as well. If we get this going I am convinced that most players would look at the bigger picture rather than going after the first available target for them. that said, I am sure i will get china in this one, haha

I have looked very hard at this (having been China is the last 'big' World game - started by me as well) and China has an exceptionally raw deal:

a) the three SCs next to Lan is ridiculous;
b) Korea is an immediate problem as PR also have an uncertain start and are highly likely to at least want to bounce...
c) and there comes the problem because India can put two units on Lan first turn, gaining an SC in the process. This effectively stops China taking and holding Lan - and stops China even getting a build.

India is completely and utterly safe because of the ridiculous number of empty territories to its north. It takes more that two years for an attack to even be mounted from that direction.

Of course, I begged and begged for an alliance with PR, even giving him Korea and Japan first year so that I could work on the Lan side. Alas, I still did not have enough to offer.

Now, what's the chance of getting China again? I know, I know, 1/17... But I have an awful feeling about this.

we have 15 so far... I'd really like to keep it open a few more days to see if we cant make this a real 'Challenge' game... if we can get everyone to be ranked 300 or lower that would be awesome (not to pick on the lower ranked folks) but we will go with what we have on Friday.

it seems like 2 days is best... it also seems to me only 4 ppl did not want to do 200pts... so if they would be willing to dig in a bit deeper in their pockets, I think 200 pts can work.

if I can only ask you all to please take the quoted text above (from my last post) and paste it into your current games' global tabs, we can probably get the few more signups that we need.

i went back and read all the posts on this thread... want to thank abgematch and Bugger for keeping this thing going and urall for cleaning up the list.

@flashman - you do have a good point with the 48 hrs for retreat/build etc... but another way to look at it is that if its 24 hrs, there is a disproportionately higher chance of people NMRing or even going CD because they cant keep up. and with so many players to engage, I think we would all enjoy a better game if there was more time to genuinely negotiate with everyone instead of playing it somewhat gunboat on the days/weekends when we dont have time to diplome.

There needs to be a pre-game agreement over Madagascar... It is not shown as a SC on the map but gives the occupant a SC according to the code. A bug? Well, yes, but whatever it is called, it would not be fair if a few players knew about it and others did not.

I have just landed there myself in another game and the rumour is true... A secret supply base.

I'm being careful *not* to land there in another game, and fortunately my fleets can interdict anyone else moving in that direction
