Two People Using the Same Computer
I can't seem to find it... but my girlfriend has an account, and so do I... Will we get penalized for playing on the same computer? (she usually does her updates at work, but doesn't work 24 hours a day... odd huh?). Just wanted to make sure.

Oh, and if you are wondering, she usually stabs me in the back first.

Throwing game away Ivo_ivanov
Is this cheating? This is the game in which I refused to draw (turd nugget) and as people can see I've been pushing them back. Ivo_ivanov is specifically moving away to let germany win. In real game settings.... who would throw themselves away to let someone else win? wtf....

potential builds problem
http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4375

I (France) have 8 units and 11 supply centers, but I am only offered 2 builds. Is this another bug? Or is it just a new feature that I am only offered 2 builds because one of my 3 centers is occupied?

Dealing with the MySQL 5.0.45 bug
The bug we dealt with a few days ago is causing problems for people who are stuck on 5.0.45 (Facebook Diplomacy), and we may be updating back to 5.0.45 ourselves in the future.

So I'm going to be adding some code which I hope will work around the bug, but there may be problems with it so let me know if you notice anything wrong. I've tested it at home on reprocessing many games and running the DATC tests and it seems to work, but there may be issues which weren't encountered.

I've taken a backup but the sooner I hear about any problems the better.

Babysitter
Girls, I would need a babysitter for my three nice kids, starting saturday. Two of them (located in Germany and Italy) are quite well-behaved, can read and write and communicate quite well with their peers. The third one is only trouble and still in its diapers. Anybody interested?

Convoying Question.
If I convoy an army from Wales -> Picardy. And I want to double support it, how do I do it? Do I do:

Fleet English Channel CONVOY from Wales to Picardy
Army Belgium SUPPORT MOVE Wales to Picardy
And ask a friend to do:
Army Burgundy SUPPORT MOVE Wales to Picardy

Or do I do:
Fleet English Channel CONVOY from Wales to Picardy
Army Belgium SUPPORT MOVE English Channel to Picardy
And ask a friend to do:
Army Burgundy SUPPORT MOVE English Channel to Picardy

This is assuming that the fleet at English Channel has no chance of being attacked by anythign.

A question of metagaming
A while back, a player offered me a deal that involved metagaming. I obviously did not accept the deal, and ignored the offer. However, I was thinking, would it be acceptable for me to tell the player that I accepted the deal, assuming that I didn't actually go through with it. Is it okay to tell someone you will metagame with them if you are lying? Tell me what you think.

The bug
Hi guys, clearly there's a major problem.

I've paused the gamemaster while I figure it out. It looks like all the problems being posted relate to the TerrStatus table not updating correctly, which affects builds, and orders which depend on the territory you occupied.

Sorry about this, but this may require moving the database back a few hours because this has messed up a lot of games.

hey one question...are the games still frozen bc one of my games has been "Due Now" for at least 15 minutes
aoe3rules (949 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
no, that's normal. once someone recorded a 4-hour "due now", but i'm pretty sure that's the longest without outside bugs. unfortunately, there's a really serious outside bug now, so...

You know its bad when you need to submit a bug report directly to MySQL :-(
http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=37849

Maybe they'll point out something obvious, but I really cannot see how this is occurring without there being a MySQL problem. Without a doubt the trickiest bug phpdip has ever faced (and yes this is a result of the server move, I just need to make sure whether it's phpdip making incorrect assumptions or if it's a mysql bug)

> and who here hopes this bug also shows up on playdiplomacy.com

i don't know, i've heard that they are causing the recent problems on our site... :-(
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

@alamothe: well without knowing about any bugs. and isn't it normally run every five minutes?
alamothe (3367 D(B))

i guess... so how could a game be stuck for four hours??
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
03 Jul 08 UTC
Since it's a problem with the database I've asked that we get moved back. Hopefully that won't take too long, but I've turned up a few minor bugs while looking for the problem, and wrote some useful game reprocessing code today, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
WhiteSammy (132 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
ok well i found this website through a friend so i never took the time to look at other websites bc i liked this one a lot and a just wasted my time by taking a look at playdiplomacy. I honestly want to know if anyone else has ever played playdiplomacy and which website that you prefer. It looks so tacky the way the map is set up and what everything looks like.
WhiteSammy (132 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
if anyone is offended by my comments i dont care bc its my opinion and you shouldnt worry about it just post your.
Kestas could it be the versions of PhP and MySQL are different on the two servers and thus some of the coding isn't working as intended?
Croaker (370 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
Now that's a pity. MySQL will not support the (slightly) older version. Not too impressive on their part. At least they could have tried to provide an explanation.
dangermouse (5551 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
This is the response you got from the mySQL bug report???

"Thank you for the feedback.
I am sorry, but we don't backport bug fixes into previous minor versions. As all works as
expected with current version I close the report."

Lame.
tachikoma (125 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
It's not that they won't support the older version, it's that it's poor practice to backport bugfixes within a Major release.
Croaker (370 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
Sure. But if they are aware of the bug and have fixed it in the current release they could at least provide a description. Perhaps a workaround could be proposed or figured out.
tachikoma (125 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
Why? That sort of thing should be in the release notes.
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
03 Jul 08 UTC
The strange thing is it works on .24a, and in fact we're moving back to a .24a server to get things working again. The problem is I think Dreamhost may be "updating" all their servers to .45
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
03 Jul 08 UTC
The final (hopefully) post on this bug:

The bad news is the server was unusable for 24 hours, and I spent 3 hours looking through the code for a bug not in the code.

The good news is I found a couple of minor unrelated bugs and there's now a cool new reprocess feature which can move any game back any number of turns, and reprocess the orders entered in for any of those turns. This means next time this happens it shouldn't take a full 24 hours to know exactly what's going on.

You may have to re-enter retreats/unit-placing orders which you already entered, and retreats/unit-placing orders you already entered may have been seen by your allies. If any games didn't get reprocessed correctly post the details in this thread

Moose Hole (100 D)

jopms, it's supposed to work that way. Capture (or hold) it in Autumn if you want to keep it.
jopms (100 D)
03 Jul 08 UTC
I already occupied it in the Spring. I need to capture it twice?
tachikoma (125 D)
04 Jul 08 UTC
You have to hold a supply center in Autumn if you want to keep it.
Sete (343 D)
05 Jul 08 UTC
I think it's still broken. According to the game I'm in (Bat Country) http://phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=4235 I have 2 supply centres but in the unit placing phase in Autumn it won't let me place my second unit.
Treefarn (6094 D)
05 Jul 08 UTC
You don't have any available supply centers to place a unit. (In the older version, you'd have to choose the option ('Wait until next build turn') or something like that. Now, if you don't have a place to put the build, you just don't get the option.
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
05 Jul 08 UTC
(FYI that change was introduced in a patch by thewonderllama, not a new version)
Sete (343 D)
06 Jul 08 UTC
Sorry about my ignorance I'm just a noob here but why can't I build in Venice? There aren't any units there. Austria had it in the spring phase but continued moving his army on to Piedmont.
Treefarn (6094 D)
06 Jul 08 UTC
You can only build in your home supply centers, not in other countries, even if you are currently the owner.
