We'll I think I'll give them a break. When it's the second, third, or fourth time they have to deal with an ice storm hitting mid-day, when the national weather service changed the forecast three times (the last time being upgrading it back to a winter storm warning at 3am). I doubt this is going to kill anyone's political career. It's Atlanta, nobody really elected them to be able to handle an ice storm. The general strategy has always been, go home and stay there.

While it's always nice to know that trashlanta always manages to upstage Louisiana's ineptitude, I think the fact that NOLA was *built under sea level in a hurricane hot zone* speaks to the mind-numbing incompetence on display during Katrina (assuming that's what's being referenced). Atlanta doesn't get ridiculous ice storms. New Orleans gets major hurricanes.

Talk about a snow apocalypse? I'm from Michigan and apparently Tuesday we're supposed to get "18 inches" of snow? According to the local news, this could be a bigger blizzard then the 1978 eastern US blizzard.

We got like 18 inches in that blizzard a few years back. Have fun with it.. hell I'm even going to send you any of the snow Chicago should get over to you. What's another 3-4 inches on top of 18? At that point it don't matter.

Well we have at least an additional 10 inches of snow on the ground now. I can only imagine the snow drifts in Chicago. Winds here are 20-25 mph. I've had to shovel my driveway 4 times today due to snow drifts. Stores are going to be cleaned out come Sunday/Monday.

Drifts here are pretty crazy. Love the 30-35 mph winds we've been getting. I just cannot wait for this winter to be done.

18 inches is not a blizzard. 10 feet in 8 days is a blizzard.

A blizzard is a severe snowstorm characterized by strong winds causing blowing snow that results in low visibilities. It doesn't have anything to do with how much snow there is coming down.

@ Putin33 - I'm pretty sure the lower peninsula of Michigan isn't used to 18 inches. To us it feels like a blizzard. That is also what people close to the Great Lakes are referring to it as... At least in Michigan.

Right but to say that 18 inches -overnight btw - wasn't a blizzard is a mistake. Also, there's this thing called snow on the ground and the wind does pick that up and blow it all around. But hell you know everything Putin no use in pointing out when your wrong.

Well, it's we definitely have wind. And 18 inches of snow is 1 foot 6 inches. Therefore we have a combination of wind and snow. + 10 inches already on the ground.

Yeah I would call that a blizzard if visability is bad enough. You may get lucky though.

Friday night an additional 4-7 inches. This is ridiculous.

Yeah we're suppose to get 3-7 on Saturday. Like I said I can't wait for this winter to be over.

Just wondering how you could get such low visibility under snow less than several feet.

It happens when there's high winds and snow already on the ground.

All it takes is a snow and a strong gust of wind to blow the snow all over.
