Minimum players in classic game
Hi all, my first time creating a game on my own. Is there a way to set the game to only 4 or 5 players for a private game? I didn't see any option and it shows "game will start when all 7 players have joined" now. Thanks for any help!!

I really want to review all the messages I sent to someone, but the history logs appear limited. Are they just gone, or is there any way to see the full message logs with a player from a game?

Question concerning game rules (pms)
Hi there! I need a public and official reply by a MODERATOR.
If you play a match without anonymous players, but even without private chat (only team chat): Is it allowed to write the other players private messages in order to negotiate? In my opinion everbody see the names of the other players and everybody can write to the other players, so it is a fair system. It is a very important part of this game to negotiate, you know.
How are the official rules?

Just a question that I have, not too sure if anyone can answer them. I have been pondering how people own the site. I know that you can become part of the Moderator/Admin Team or donate to the site, but how would someone go about purchasing the Web Diplomacy site?

I've never cancelled a game before, but i'm wondering, if you cancel a game, will you get your starting coins back? Say you bid 10, will you get 10 back when you cancel? Also, what about if you take over a civil disorder?

The Last Known World Game
I just finished up the second to last Known World game, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=187834, on 36 hour phases, which we probably played a few years further than we might have for that honor. This leaves one 10-day phase game in a still relatively early state, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=187877

Anyone who hasnt voted for Hell or High Water allow me to make my case:

This movie is a perfectly cast Crime Drama Thriller about 2 brothers who set out robbing banks. Chasing them is a police duo that play off each other perfectly well. The story is engaging and the cinematography is astounding especially for a Crime Thriller. Honestly if you enjoyed:
-No Country For Old Men
or
-Any Taratino Film

You will probably love this movie.

Imbd: 7.7

Also, I'd like to make it clear that I heavily enjoy Tarantino and all of his work. Some of my favorite films. But we're pitting one of what I consider to be a lower end of his films (fantastic, just nowhere near his best), against one of Christopher Nolan's last good films. Dark Knight is leaps and bounds of wonderful, and I do wish both of these films could make it to round 2, but Dark Knight wins out. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker pushes it even further over the edge.

There are really cool camera techniques in Dark Knoght that get forgotten. For example in a few dialogue scenes with more than two characters, the camera spins around the group, and the speed of speech is entirely uninterrupted. And where the camera stops, 180 degree lines are drawn for the rest of the conversation. This sort of spin gives the audience the impression of "uh oh, something is going down, and they've gotta come up with something."

Hell or High Water is a fine film. Often natural, sometimes quite intelligent, and directed with a steady hand. Mackenzie is a class above the two pretentious jerks who made that film with Bardem and a cattle gun. What keeps it from being a great film is a certain "deja vu" feeling - it's old-fashioned. It could have been made in the 1970s with almost no changes. He's playing it too safe. Nevertheless, everyone should see it.

I don't actually like The Dark Knight all that much. Batman Begins is a better Batman movie, and TDK wouldn't be nearly as popular and beloved if Heath Ledger hadn't died when it was about to be released.

WHOA WHOA WHOA
BATMAN BEGINS IS BETTER?
DO YOU NOT GET HOW FILMS FILM?
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
Worse action sequences (which is directly tied to worse editing), worse acting, worse effects, worse writing, worse cinematography. Batman Begins was the stunted child if the trilogy.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
If I ever get the urge to watch any of the films in that trilogy, it's always Dark Knight. I'd rather watch Dark Knight Rises 10 times before ever going back to Batman Begins. It's okay. But the worst of the trilogy hands down.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
09 May 17 UTC
It's a much better Batman movie.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
How? It's objectively a worse movie.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
09 May 17 UTC
How is it the worst of the trilogy? TDKR was abysmal.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
09 May 17 UTC
It's a better BATMAN movie.

TDK doesn't actually feel like Batman.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
TDKR was poorly managed, but BB was floundering quite a bit to get footing. I don't like either of them, particularly. The one plus I can give Begins is that we only have TDK because it existed.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
Chaqa, that's like saying Empire Strikes Back was a bad Star Wars movie because it didn't feel like the original.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
09 May 17 UTC
I didn't like any of them tbh. The original Batman film from the 80s and Batman Returns in particular were way better.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 May 17 UTC
it's the best DC has put out in the modern era, and Dark Knight was by far the better movie.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
09 May 17 UTC
I think it's just an Oklahoma thing to love TDK.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
It's a "recognizing which films are objectively better than other films" thing.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
I like the Tim Burton original as well. Considerably more than I like Batman Begins or TDKR. Comparing it to TDK, I might prefer TDK but that ones close. Jack Nicholson is also very fun in the Joker role, and Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne gave me some good laughs as well. If I want something more serious, I could go to TDK, but Batman (1989) is more fun.
JamesYanik (548 D)
09 May 17 UTC
Heath Ledger also has been the only Joker since Nicholson to truly bring that role to life. even now... he might be better than Nicholson.
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))
09 May 17 UTC
The Penguin in Batman Returns was great. That had the ideal level of creepiness for a Batman movie.

It's a shame that Batman Forever rather fell flat... And we just won't mention Batman and Robin unless it's in the comedy category.
TrPrado (461 D)
09 May 17 UTC
My big complaint about Batman Returns is everything about Catwoman.
zurn (178 D)
09 May 17 UTC
TrPrado: I actually consider Basterds to be one of Tarantino's best. My opinion of it got higher and higher every time I watched it. I'd probably only place Pulp Fiction ahead of it.
Chaqa (3971 D(B))
