Japan.. How do we perceive them?
Hey guys, lets talk about Japan.
What are your thoughts on Japanese authorities allowing themselves to keep shrines for the old imperialist Generals in honor of their 'heroism'?
If you don't know what 'heroism' they have displayed in the past, than please I believe that we all have the right to know, and we can start this thread with those information.

...this one won't STOP, because so many of teh friends I know won't stop. I'm NOT questioning anyone's beliefs, I'm just curious as to the reason why some religious people--and I'll admit this is mainly Christians I mean here, but that's just from my own personal experience, so if this is not you, don't take offense--seem to thank Jesus or Gor for EVERYTHING...even when it's clearly something THEY did (like do well on a test...unless God REALLY CARES if you got that A+, why thank him?)

Can we program a variant where a single player can play all seven powers?
I was wondering if it is possible to create a variant or a type of game where a single player could control all seven countries to test out certain strategies or to replay some games that were played elsewhere (not on wedip)?
No points/stat/Ghostrating will be used or rewarded of course.

Yeah, I'd suggest rereading that article Fasces. It's fascinating, well written and makes a very strong point, which is largely that "scientific" debates over race actually reflect social and political realities rather than empirical scientific ones.
"Monkeys can solve basic math faster then humans...
Monkeys have opposable thumbs as do humans...
the list goes on" - That but that doesn't mean that any person is more genetically similar to a monkey. Genetics does not work that way, goodnight!

Then explain why Mongoloids, who generally have poorer upbringings the Caucasians have higher IQs... (101 v 106, its within the margin of error but still)
social-economic upbringing doesn't account for everything... - If it's within the margin of error then you can't say it's higher. If it's within the margin of error then any difference is officially just a fluke. And I do have a explanation for that. Even within a single class East Asian and White students will receive better education, more encouragement and more support from teachers than black students due to unconscious biases on the part of the teachers. In other words, teachers are conditioned to think more highly of White and Asian students regardless of actual academic performance. Essentially I'd extend Fausto-Sterling's argument from that article you linked one step further. Academic performance and performance on IQ tests and so on all reflect the changing popular perception of racial differences rather than any actual biological or psychological difference. A century ago it wasn't commonly thought that Asians were smarter than white people and existing measures of intelligence found that that was the case. Whites did better than Asians. Now we expect that Asians are smarter than Whites, and so we see the test results all prove that Asians are as smart or smarter than Whites. The so-called "empirical evidence" for intelligence changes to fit our preconceptions of racial differences rather than the other way round.

as for the ending of the article, it pretty much says that we have no evidence to suggest that there is a direct relation between brain size and intelligence, pretty much saying this debate is left unanswered.

Which leads me to my next article, a newer article (by about 14 years)

Yes, and the body of the article shows that no appreciable difference in brain size has ever been demonstrated, and anyone who says that they did fudged the data to arrive at that conclusion. Way to leave that aside in order to make your point.
Secondly James Watson has a history of saying somewhat racist things and calling it science. He's a living example of how even scientists committed to empiricism above all else can still have their better natures overruled by deeply ingrained prejudices. Just because he's James Watson doesn't mean he's correct.

I never said it was, but all I am saying is James Watson won a Nobel prize for his work in genetics, so clearly his views on the issue have to have some scientific merit.

A few months ago, back in March I dived further into this, knowing full well the Watson was condemned for his thesis. I found other scholarly articles with dates past 2005 supporting the claims. Once I find them I will post them. However it being my birthday today I am focusing my attention on shit other then this debate about race and intelligence.

"I never said it was, but all I am saying is James Watson won a Nobel prize for his work in genetics, so clearly his views on the issue have to have some scientific merit."
- No they don't, not at all. Someone with a Nobel prize can still make shit up as much as anyone else.
And again, the Fausto-Sterling article applies as much to the scholarly articles you've found since backing up Watson's claims. The so called "Scholarly debate" AKA "modern scientific racism" reflect the prejudices and preconceived beliefs of the authors of those articles as the earlier ones critiqued by Fausto-Sterling.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this. However sorry to sound stubborn but I am still not entirely convinced that race means nothing in the intelligence debate. Why?

"Right. Sorry for the derailment. Someone advocating exterminating black people can do that to a thread."
I said I use to advocate that but changed 4 years ago. However I still believe there is a difference between the races.

The reason why I said that was because Putin asked what made me 'fascist' back when I was 12. I answered.

about race, race is historically constructed, you can go through sources, especially travel narratives and watch as Europeans constructed ideas of race as their interaction with Native Americans and Blacks increased. In a couple hundred years Othello became Sambo in the eyes off Europeans because they created race for political and economic gain.

"Wow, a facist and a racist?
Do you just hate everything and everyone?:
I'm not fascist and I'm not racist. But to answer your question I think mankind is incompetent and does more bad then good. However do I want to eliminate everyone? No! I value my life to much and it would be boring if I was alone.

"about race, race is historically constructed, you can go through sources, especially travel narratives and watch as Europeans constructed ideas of race as their interaction with Native Americans and Blacks increased. but if the other races were equal to Europeans then we wouldn't have been able to exploit them...
There was a reason, besides luck, that gave Europeans a distinct advantage when they went on to conquer the world. (which interestingly enough East Asia was one of the few areas Europe didn't really try to colonize)
"There was a reason, besides luck, that gave Europeans a distinct advantage when they went on to conquer the world. (which interestingly enough East Asia was one of the few areas Europe didn't really try to colonize)"

Yeah, diseases, which East Asians were immune to, attempts to colonize Africa were abject failures until the weapon and medical advances of the 19th century.
Draugnar (0 DX)

"but if the other races were equal to Europeans then we wouldn't have been able to exploit them..."

Completely false. Early Europeans had a much easier go of it so "civilized" sooner than the African nations. Therefore the Europeans were able to colonize and enslave the African people.
Europeans were early successful in colonizing areas that their microbes, fauna, and livestock were highly adapted to (more highly than Native groups).
"Completely false. Early Europeans had a much easier go of it so "civilized" sooner than the African nations. Therefore the Europeans were able to colonize and enslave the African people."

simply not true, European colinizing efforts were complete failures as stated before, and their slave networks relied on Africans and warfare among African tribes. The advantage the Euros had were loads of goods, most predominately guns and alcohol that tribes along the Atlantic basin desperately wanted
Draugnar (0 DX)
11 Jun 11 UTC
And how did they get these guns and alcohol? Civilization. Your own statement just proved what I said *was* true.
Mansa Munsa, the Mali Chief when he went on the Hajj, threw so much gold out to onlookers in Cairo it crashed the market for four years. Praytell Draughnar, how does a non-civilized people get so much gold?
The middle east was far more "civilized" than western Europe throughout history, but Europeans made strides with gunpowder technology and tactics that the midle eastern empires did not keep up with. Does that mean Europe was more civilized? No it means they found a toy that they realized the importance of before anyone else
Fasces349 (0 DX)
11 Jun 11 UTC
"Completely false. Early Europeans had a much easier go of it so "civilized" sooner than the African nations. Therefore the Europeans were able to colonize and enslave the African people."
I'm not denying that, but Africa got a head start, and the first African civilizations were before the first European ones. So why did they suddenly go from a minor continent to the center of the world stage? It was because of 'guns and alcohol', civilization is what made Europe great, however civilization doesn't come from nothing, it required great intelligence to create great civilization...
So if the white race is so superior, why in the middle ages were there superior civilizations in West Africa as well as the middle East? Why was Europe ever a minor continent? It seems (and scholars say) that several events coincided in the mid second millennium that catapulted Europe into the dominant power in the world. Among these, 1.) Highly Centralized Empires 2.) Intense Imperial Rivalries 3.) The privilege and luck of being highly resistant to desease from being tapped into the Eurasian cultural exchange (not as highly resistant as many Africans however) 4.) The Gun an High Quality Steel etc. 5.) The need for long distance sea trade which led to further advances and advantages

This progression from Savagery to Civilization is bunk. Civilizations, even Empires existed in all parts of the world, and many of them were more highly sophisticated than those in Europe throughout many times (even most) of history. Europeans were fortunate to enjoy a series of advancements, some ancient and some recent, that propelled them to prominence on the world stage, and even then it took 500 years

1. Smarter governments
2. capitalism is good
3. evolutionary traits (and your brackets actually counters your argument)
4. inventions done by superior minds
5. We all needed it, the Caucasians were the only ones who actually bothered to try...

The dark ages ended 170 years before Europe was the center stage of the world thats hardly 500 years...
