Hi all,
Thanks for your patience with the downtime (The longest downtime webDiplomacy.net has had).
Due to some recent performance & stability issues I decided to max out our memory and disk space on our dedicated machine. This was relatively inexpensive, and I made up half the new cost by replacing a service which would message me when the server went down. Hopefully it'll pay off.
The bad news was the upgrade needed a complete re-install of the system. I thought this would take ~4 hours, but the guys who did the upgrade took three hours just to do the hardware swap and reinstallation. This threw the schedule way out, and I was trying to reinstall webDiplomacy before getting sleep.
In my rush to get to sleep for work the next day I didn't test it properly. It turns out that MySQL on 64-bit enables strict-mode by default, which webDiplomacy apparently has a few subtle issues with. This caused game processing to fail.
Note that no information was lost, and no games were corrupted; the processing failed, the system recognized it and rolled back. I've added time to all games, tested it out using the DATC automated tests, and me and the mods will monitor the server closely this evening for any issues.
Also apologies there have been few updates recently. Most of last year was spent on translation support, and I realize that to the people on this server that's totally useless, but there are lots of great suggestions to work on, and I should have more time in the future to work on them due to a job change.
Thanks again for the patience, and to the mod team for the quick response. I have to say it was killing me at work knowing the server was down.. This upgrade should be a very positive step going forward.
Thanks again,
Kestas
