What is the point or purpose of (human) life?
Why am I alive?

To worship the Almighty God.
Don't believe in God?
Your life is pointless...
birdsvsworms (100 D)

KA, that's extremely rude. i don't think the Bible says anything about the non-believer's life being pointless. in fact i promise you it doesn't.

You know I don't believe in YOUR God but you know I love my life. Whatever happened to judge not lest you be judged.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
@KA, so if I don't believe in God, I should just go upstairs, grab my shotgun, and blow my brains out? If I'm not mistaken, the end result (I spend an eternity in hell for my lack of belief/suicide) is the same, so by continuing to live am I not simply prolonging the inevitable?
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
every human life is meaningful, Christian or not. i definitely don't like the idea that Christians treat people as if their lives are meaningless. Jesus didn't do that at all.
King Atom (100 D)

Just because the Bible doesn't say something does not mean that it isn't true.
The Bible says nothing about gravity, yet that is a very prevalent factor of our lives.
I am speaking from the standpoint that God created Man in his image so that he could rule over the Earth and take charge over God's dominions. Man was meant to take care of His world so that he might glorify God. Man is meant to spend time with God, essentially, because God was 'lonely,' if I can put it in terms that you can understand.
Non-Christians can do plenty, but for whatever purpose God put you on the Earth, to worship him takes precedence.

But my deepest apologies, Tolstoy, explaining things to people who do not understand them can get a bit tedious. Continue your thread as if I had never posted here.

Hey, just to establish a groundwork here, KA, does the Bible saying something necessarily make it true? I am just confirming.

Stop trolling religion and get a life. If you want to understand it, research it. Don't press me for answers.
And no, Celtic, God made MAN in his image. He made WOMAN out of man to be similar to MAN. MANKIND was, in essence, perfect, and as close to God's beauty as they will ever be, prior to the fall.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Don't apologize. I am trying to improve (or gain) understanding. If you clam up, I will get less data and my quest will be hindered. Aside from worship of God in the Christian manner, what are the other things non-Christians can (or should) do?
King Atom (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Yes, dubmdell, if you are going to believe part of it, you must believe all of it. You can believe whatever else you want that goes along with it, but you can't believe every word of the Bible, and every word of the Quran.
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
i believe that the bible is God's word, so in the Christian faith, yes. however, i think KA needs to review his bible. unfortunately he seems to think that God would create lives which are meaningless, although that is not what the bible says, by any means.
King Atom (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Tolstoy, you can invent, you can philosophize, you can do everything that lead to the downfall of society, and you can sin. Sin til your heart's content. You can do anything you want, but to worship God is what you should do. I'm sorry that I cannot continue any discussion, as it is getting late where I am, and I would much rather go to sleep than to be questioned all night.
King Atom (100 D)

@birdsvsworms: God does not create worthless life, he creates a man with full potential. That man can either fulfill the purposes to which God created him for such a time, or he can waste his life.
dubmdell (556 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Okay, KA, not to rag on you, but there are two things you *must* believe in if you believe the whole Bible.

First, you *must* be a flat-earther.
Check out Psalm 104:5: "He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved." And Psalm 93:1, Psalm 96:10, Job 11:9, Job 38:44, and Job 38:13.

Second, you *must* believe in a geocentric universe. Check out Ecclesiastes 1:5: "The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises."
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Tolstoy, you can question me if you want to know anything about specifically the Christian faith. i can try my best to answer questions you might have about that. that's all i really know though, so idk that i'd be able to help you with much else, if that makes sense? and i apologize for the condescending nature of KA's words. he misunderstands, i personally believe, and i hope that maybe that can change for him someday.
dubmdell (556 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Also, since bvw can't be bothered to google that for ya, I'll show you where no life is meaningless.
Eccl. 12:13-14 "The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for that is the whole duty of everyone. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil."

Fear God and keep his commandments. That's the whole duty of everyone. Even if you disregard your purpose, it is still your purpose.
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
@dubmdell, that could be interepreted differently seeing as it is poetic literature.
birdsvsworms (100 D)

@dubmdell, this is true.

i gotcha. ahaha.
dubmdell (556 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Sorry, didn't realize you were responding to my first post.

The problem with saying "we can interpret poetry differently" is, at least half of the prophesies for Christ (probably more) are based in the poetry portions of the Bible.
Also, Timothy says all scripture is useful for doctrine and reproof. So poetry should be good for doctrine, right? Well, here ya go: the doctrines of the flat earth and the geocentric universe.
Tolstoy (1962 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Okay. So I fear God and keep His commandments. Easy enough, aside from a few things that are kind of a pain. Done.

Then what?
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
i agree, i just don't think that the earth needs to be flat to have foundations or to not be moved. i just think the fact that it is poetic literature means that it does not necessarily state that the earth is flat. i think that makes it difficult to understand doctrine though, and i think it's not possible for us to fully understand regardless.
birdsvsworms (100 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
*being poetic literature.
dubmdell (556 D)
07 Apr 12 UTC
Well, how about this then? We believe the words as the author meant them. Is that satisfactory for building doctrine out of words?

It is a reverent fear, not a fear as you would understand it. birdsvsworms, I cannot stand it when someone judges my knowledge over the internet, do not apologize for me, I am speaking pure truth. If you do not understand it, then you do not truly understand the Bible. I cannot explain anything to you all unless I am doing it face to face, that is merely part of my personality. dumbmdell, the Bible does not say that the Earth is flat, you are merely interpreting it to say that it is flat. The only concept of understanding to the people at the time is that of the sun setting and rising. It was written for the people to understand, not to interpret as you are doing. Ecclesiastes was also written by a man who, although being influenced by the word of God, did not actually know that the sun was at the center of the solar system.

All of your prying questions are completely asinine, and I would like it if you all spent time actually delving into thought about what you are saying before asking it. Enough of this, if you want to understand Evolution, read Charles Darwin. If you want to understand Christianity, read God's Word, the Bible.

Please, do not listen to those who do not know what they are saying. There will be many false prophets in the end days, and these are indeed the end days! "For many will come in My name...and will deceive many!" Use your brains! Do not settle for the mere interpretations of others. Delve into the Word of God, and God will delve into you. Open your minds and try to see what I see, "For narrow is the path that leads to The Father." I am trying to warn you all, because I am not a suited teacher for my Teacher. Today is Good Friday, today we remember Jesus dying on the cross for OUR sins. Don't let his death and suffering be in vain, but remember him, what he did, and change your hearts. Repent from your ways of wickedness and your ways of deceit. Santorum actually knows a few things! But again, I say, enough.

Help finding a thread
I'm sure some of you recall the embarrassing moments thread we had a few weeks ago? Well I have searched by google and by rote reading, page by page, and not found it. Neither did abgemacht, the sweetheart that he is, when he went searching. Any help locating it would be appreciated. I do not recall who started the thread.
