we have a player that needs to dropout of the game, is there a way we can replace them without having to go into civil disorder?

What's your favorite country for gunboat and why?
I'm curious which if any countries people prefer.
I think my favorite for gunboat is Turkey. I think it's really difficult to bring the kind of sustained pressure against Turkey that's necessary to crack its defensive perimeter without coordination, and gunboat limits that. Then, as the game shakes out, Turkey almost always has an interesting battle to get through the Ionian and Tyrrhenian stalemate areas, or failing that, an interesting fight in the Warsaw/Silesia area. I enjoy the defensive capacity of Turkey and the mid to late game problems Turkey faces.

Can't go wrong with France or Turkey in my eyes. Both have solid defensive positions.

If Lando's tournament and the high stake games are any indication, Turkey and France have the upper hand.
For GB my preference would be France, Turkey, Italy, England, Germany, Austria and Russia.
For full press, it would be England, France, ................, and Austria (although I have been doing better with Austria so I might let it out of the dog house).
I actually really enjoy Austria, if you can somehow not get dogpiled by Russia, Turkey, and Italy early on. I'd prefer to be Austria than either Germany or Russia, to be honest.

I honestly like Germany in gunboat. The centrifuge opening is tons of fun. On the other end of the spectrum Russia is my least favorite. It is way to easy to get crushed quickly and get no builds

I like playing France the most in gunboats, it works really well.
I also like Italy in gunboats, it's actually pretty easy to play.

Russia- If you gain some traction, you're ability to interact with and shape the whole board is unparalleled.
Gobbledydook (1389 D(B))

I hate playing Russia, I just can't seem to get any traction.
How do you do that? Can I have a link to some Russia EOGs you have played?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
14 Apr 12 UTC
With Germany, you often get a friendly F or E and a neutral R, so I don't mind that.
With Russia, it's either do really well or die a slow and torturous death.
With Austria, I agree completely that it's not bad if you don't get teamed up by RTI, but with Lando's Italian's avant garde opening (Ven-Tyr and Rome-Ven), Austria's just in a hell hole.

Not really my intent. He asked. Suppose I could have pm'd him. I'm a fan of Russia.
Looks like we have some good players here, let's get a game on...

101 point ante. Sorry to interrupt the topic, but I''d really enjoy playing against some of the people posting in this thread.

I'm just kidding, Barn3tt. :)
I don't think you are the type to strut after a big win and I highly respect that. It's enjoyable though to congratulate the winner and try to give him a big head so that it's easier to take him down the next game, right? :P

Well, for the sake of full disclosure- this is also what can happen if Russia fails to gain any traction.

God damn it. Why do people always post live games in discussion threads?
I would join but I am staying away from all live games at the moment.

Look at the spring 01 moves around Russia in this game. If people always opened like this when I was Russia, I'd feel much different about being a czar.

Because I saw Barn3tt posting and really, really wanted to challenge him to a live game.

1) England; 2) Turkey; 3) France; 4) Russia; 5) Germany; 6) Italy; 7) Austria.

Any country with a good corner position in which early defeat requires uncanny non-verbal coordination from your enemy is a good one to have in GB.

Best convoys?
Wondering which games have had convoys that stood out for being either extremely long, decisive/critical in terms of gameplay, or unexpected. Would be interested in seeing!

Help finding a thread
I'm sure some of you recall the embarrassing moments thread we had a few weeks ago? Well I have searched by google and by rote reading, page by page, and not found it. Neither did abgemacht, the sweetheart that he is, when he went searching. Any help locating it would be appreciated. I do not recall who started the thread.

Look, Foreigners, I don't hate you guys, but
Like seriously, you all have no culture. Most of you don't even make good movies. Many of you talk funny, and don't eat enough meat. Try driving an SUV, it makes you feel powerful. And seriously, what do you do for role models? I mean you don't have ANYTHING that compares to Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. Also, why can't you afford designer clothes like a real person? USA, baby. USA.
