Best convoys?
Wondering which games have had convoys that stood out for being either extremely long, decisive/critical in terms of gameplay, or unexpected. Would be interested in seeing!

Help finding a thread
I'm sure some of you recall the embarrassing moments thread we had a few weeks ago? Well I have searched by google and by rote reading, page by page, and not found it. Neither did abgemacht, the sweetheart that he is, when he went searching. Any help locating it would be appreciated. I do not recall who started the thread.

I STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!
fortknox (2059 D)
03 Apr 12 UTC
FtF Cincinnati will take place on 7/21/12-7/22/12 in Cincinnati, OH (at a location that is still TBD).

To sign up, please email [email protected], include your real name, a location where you are coming from (a nearby city and state are fine, I just need to know where you are coming from for carpooling and flying advice), your account name (and account id), and whether you prefer an address to send your money to or a paypal account.
I will send you the info for the money collection as a reply when I get a chance.

Please understand that all money is non-refundable. I'm not going to steal your money, but if you send it to me and then decide not to go after I pay the event location, well, I can't get it back. I'm a poor man due to the divorce, so the sooner I can get the cash, the sooner I can put a downpayment on an event location and get everything tightened down.

I know draug and I both can help as far as hotels and places to stay, and others have offered to carpool if you live in their path to get here. Please feel free to coordinate with others and figure out the best (and cheapest for those that don't have a lot of money) way to get here.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, either in this thread, or an email to the ftf cincy account.

A high level breakdown of the weekend:
friday: informal get together (dinner? Drinks?)
saturday: Tourney all day with breaks for lunch and dinner
sunday: Tourney half day so people can start their trips, whether driving or flying.

I'll have to definitely think about it. I really would like to be there, but finances are tight right now and could be tight until Gen Con. My goal is to definitely make it to Gen Con this year and operate a Diplomacy Tournament someplace next year.

I'll pass word on to Jacob about your tournament and if we can find a way to come, I'll be there, but payment will be closer to the deadline.

When do you need to know by?
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
03 Apr 12 UTC
FK can answer in more detail

I suspect there will be 2 deadlines:

1 deadline to make sure we have enough people paid to finance the room.
A second, later deadline that will end when we have as many people as the room we rented can handle.

FK, I'll get you set up so you can start making your own page for Cincy.
fortknox (2059 D)
03 Apr 12 UTC
There are multiple deadlines. I need to make sure I have at least 7, preferably 14 people so we can, you know, play the games. With that in mind, I'm looking more towards a venue that holds ~25 people. If more than 25 plan on coming, I need to know ASAP so I can book a bigger room.

Yes, there will be some that'll wait until last minute. It isn't that big of a deal. I can do a CC and only need to put like 50% down for the room usually a week or two before the event. But I do want full commitments because if I get 30 people interested and 2 show up with money, well, I'm gonna be upset ;)
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
03 Apr 12 UTC
If you're looking for a place that holds 25, might as well find a place that holds 28, so we can have 4 boards.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
03 Apr 12 UTC

check out this, celtic: http://www.greatwolf.com/mason/waterpark

It's right next to KI. INDOOR waterpark, awesome rooms, shuttle service to kings island.... if hubby likes parks, this may give you an upper hand in negotiations.

BTW - I do find it incredibly enlightening that you are negotiating with your hubby to play a game of negotiations with strangers ;)
Draugnar (0 DX)
03 Apr 12 UTC
^ And you can be downtown in just 30-45 minutes Saturday and Sunday. If the weather is nice, though, you want to do the waterpark at KI included with the cost of admission. They just did a serious expansion on it.

I've gone to the Sandusky and Traverse City ones with the kids, and I've found it's kind of...variable awesomeness by location, but still really cool.
Draugnar (0 DX)
03 Apr 12 UTC
They have no kids, remember krellin? You already bicthed at her about being selfish and called her all kind of names for it. Of course, it sounds like she has *one* kid in her husband. :-)
Celticfox (100 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
Oy let's not start another fight please. He's not really a kid just a big rollercoaster person. I, on the other hand, get pretty bad motion sickness and have a fear of heights so going on them is torture sometimes and I flat out refuse to go on certain ones.

This Great Wolf water park may be what I compromise on since I'm pretty ok on most water rides. Really, there are a few other factors that are coming into play. We need to fix the ac in our car and see how much we pay for the wedding reception. If all goes well I'll be able to go.

Hopefully, I can talk him into playing as well. He knows Diplomacy much better then I do.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Apr 12 UTC
If you have a fear of heights, do *not* go on Drop Zone. It's one of those "ride to the top then drop" rides with your feet dangling out. Not fun for anyone with acrophobia (like myself).
Celticfox (100 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
Oh you couldn't pay me enough to go on it. I don't do Tower of Terror at WDW either.
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Apr 12 UTC
I actually don't mind Tower of Terror as it is enclosed a good bit. This thing is just fucked up to the max.

http://www.studentsoftheworld.info/sites/society/img/32822_DropZone.jpg

That is Drop Zone and the roller coaster in the background is the Racer. Did it once. Ain't no fucking way I will ever get on it again. Nope. Jennifer Anniston and Cameron Diaz could offer to have a three way with me if I rode it and I'd still say no. Uh uh. Not fucking happening.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
The wooden roller coaster looks ok. Can't be any worse then a few at Cedar Point. The ones I really get begged to go on are the looped ones. They make me horribly sick even with dramamine. He loves them though and hates to ride alone.

Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Apr 12 UTC
The Racer is the ride credited with sparking the Roller Coaster Renaissance. It was the coaster from the Brady Bunch episode (the Cincinnati Kid, shot at Kings Island) so it is pretty tame compared to the Beast and the Son of Beast (if it ever reopens).
Draugnar (0 DX)
04 Apr 12 UTC
You two need to find another couple with the same issue and the two non-coaster riders can hang out and do other things while the coaster riders have at it.
Celticfox (100 D(B))
04 Apr 12 UTC
That wouldn't be so bad. I have to go on some or he gets upset. Really if it's something that you'd fine at WDW with the exceptions of Rockin Roller Caster and Tower of Terrror I'd normally go on it.
