Any One at FSU or who lives in Tallahassee?
I'm moving up there in less than two weeks to start college, and I'd love to start a diplomacy club, or just play ftf games with anyone from the site who lives in town.

Historical Dates Game
We played a game similar to this a while back and it was lots of fun. You name a date, and whoever guesses what historical event happened then gets to name the next date. So on and so forth. No internet searches please.

"Russia NOOO!!!"
This is the post game discussion thread for gameID=65556 . I was England, despite a good start (minus some early wonky mess up orders with my army that really didnt matter too much) I feel like I lost focus through half the battle and once france dropped out I was in an odd position. A strong juggernaught through most of the game. I was hoping and praying it would have crumbled earlier than it did and was just cringing as russia kept going west. Once his belly was popped it was over though.

Paused Games...
OK, the mod email is filled with requests to unpause games. Here are some pointers to help us out in getting those games unpaused.

If you are playing for points... make sure its 101 or greater.
Too many Multis again... I'm not going to name names or point fingers since we can't but it's getting to the point where I am playing half the time with multis and losing an assload of points. They are getting even more clever and using a new "slave" account every few games. Watch out fellow fair players.

is it really THAT problematic? I've only played a few games, but not suspected a multi yet...
diplomancer83 (123 D)
12 Aug 11 UTC
.jI play alot and I play live so I have a bigger pool of players but out of my past ten games there have been four with moults. One game had two multi playing four accounts! Three are confirmed and banned take a look for yourself. So yes. It is a problem.
fortknox (2059 D)
12 Aug 11 UTC
some people seem to find multi's a lot more than most. It is a weird phenomenon I've noticed since being a mod (same people filing valid complaints that end up being meta and multi). My best suggestion is to start games in the forum with people you know and passworded. You get better play all around that way, especially in the ghost rating match games where you play others of similar talent.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
12 Aug 11 UTC
Live games are filled with multis/metas. The only problem with passworded live games is that you usually can't find enough people. It's extremely frustrating...
It is very annoying, isn't it though, to find people who are cheating or who know each other and play with each other in gunboat games, say as Austria and Italy, and beat the crap out of everyone else and think, "oh, there's no problem with that because there are five other people; they should be able to band together to do something about two countries allying and communicating with each other?"
Draugnar (0 DX)
12 Aug 11 UTC
Actually, your pool of players is smaller in Live games because most of us have lives that preclude spending 3 to 4 hours at a stretch on a game.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
12 Aug 11 UTC
Yeah, I know that Draugnar; that's why I can only play live games at most once a week, and only with the blessing of my wife. :)
fortknox (2059 D)
12 Aug 11 UTC
I'd agree, Draug, but back in college, I'd play civ (was it 3?) with my roommates for 6-8 hours on a saturday.... don't have the time now-a-days, though...
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

Ah, Civ 3. That was an excellent game.
Civ 4 also excellent.
Civ 5 what a turd.

Oh, that would be the University with Prokhor Zakharov. They were good. I had a thing for Lady Deidre and the Gaians. Sister Miriam Godwinson might have thought she was crazy for dancing round trees naked but I always thought it sounded kind of cool ;)

@diplomancer, I know what game you are talking about. I do not understand how nobody reported that pair before that game. I mean what the heck, how did all the people who played against userID=34756 and userID=34486 not notice they had played in 13! games together. I look over the games of every person I play against. If they are not good players and have played more then a few games I am immediately suspicious. I mean, being over suspicious is bad and I've probably reported a few people who aren't actual multi's but come on, nobody plays 13 games with the same person w/o cheating.
Sargmacher (0 DX)

I want to try Star Trek Online but not sure if I want to tempt getting sucked into an MMO.

@jmo: I've played over 100 games with Lando Calrissian and The Czech, it doesn't mean we're cheats.

Unless, there is something particular about 13 games that disturbs you? Are you superstitious?
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
12 Aug 11 UTC
Actually, I am sure you are. I know the Czech is a multi for sure.
I can't explain your win rates otherwise. :)
Draugnar (0 DX)

STO is nice because you can play it casually. It isn't quite as obsessive as WoW. Want to just fly around and shoot some Klingons? Go for it. In the mood to take a shuttle into combat and see how long you can survive? Do it! (I've done it and managed to survive the entire battle and even get a few kills with Photon-S torpedoes and Disruptor Cannon.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
12 Aug 11 UTC
Dude, notice I said "if they are not good players" And yes when someone has played 19 games total and of those 19 13 are with the same person, and in every single one of those they ally with each other or resign when it most benefits the other person, then yes, that disturbs me. No I am not superstitious.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
12 Aug 11 UTC
Ha. The Czech is a multi but not one of mine.
Sargmacher (0 DX)
12 Aug 11 UTC
@jmo: I think you might be superstitious without realisng the way it affects your life.

@Draugnar: Is the main activity in STO combat and shooting? Or can you diplomatise and collect things and earn ranks and stuff?

CONSERVATIVE MAN
Funny....the littel boy calls himself a "man",and yet so very often his posts are whiny, bitchy, little-boy posts asking for basic relationship advice. Since he knows mostly nothing about anything....should he have to change his name?

He is a dumbfuck, both poltiically and socially. How pathetic.....but I'm sure his Mommy is proud of him....<sigh...> (I hear she has a *firm grip* Isn't that right, eh? ConservativeMan???

Civil Discourse
I have always enjpyed civil discourse, where I can have a battle of philosophy, theology and history with someone while maintaining civil. With that in mind, I am thinking of going to a local mosque and asking if there is someone that would participate in an interfaith discussion. Are there others who enjoy this type of thing, or am I weird in this.

Can anyone critique my essay?
This is an essay for my English summer assignment. Note that I'm a sophomore in high school, so don't expect it to sound like an English major wrote it. Also, it's about a mentor of mine, dead or alive. I chose Jesus, and I hope that the atheists on here are unbiased enough to give a good review.

Thank you for your patience while we sort this out. Remember, you can upause games yourself by all voting to Unpause ingame.

Can we program a semi-anon variant to decrease likelihood of multi and meta cheaters?
The variant will show who's playing but not what country he or she is playing. Then the players are able to spot metagamers and possibly multi cheaters right away.
Please give feedback on idea and feasibility.

Thank You, Geofram!
I just wanted to publicly recognize Geofram for sitting for me for an extended period of time in which I had no time to properly pursue my Diplomacy games. He stepped up when I didn't have anyone to ask and ensured my opponents had an opponent instead of a CD.

Why post this in the forum? He deserves the kudos, and anyone who thinks more highly of him for this is icing on the cake.

I thought the draw of Diplomacy was supposed to be the wheeling, dealing and cajoling. I don't understand the appeal of taking away messaging.

Downtime info
The database was down for ~1 hour 30 minutes. I've added 3 hours to games to compensate.
The downtime was due to an automatic mysql update script but no script to restart the mysql service, which I've now added in. Apologies for the inconvenience

It is impossible to register to this game since the switch to the dedicated server, the validation page just refreshes. 6 of our group is already registered, but we cannot (and will not) start a game without the seventh member. If it is a browser issue, IExplorer, Firefox and Chrome are displaying this error.

Hope this will get resolved soon, I'm eager to play with my friends.
