Any One at FSU or who lives in Tallahassee?
I'm moving up there in less than two weeks to start college, and I'd love to start a diplomacy club, or just play ftf games with anyone from the site who lives in town.

Historical Dates Game
We played a game similar to this a while back and it was lots of fun. You name a date, and whoever guesses what historical event happened then gets to name the next date. So on and so forth. No internet searches please.

"Russia NOOO!!!"
This is the post game discussion thread for gameID=65556 . I was England, despite a good start (minus some early wonky mess up orders with my army that really didnt matter too much) I feel like I lost focus through half the battle and once france dropped out I was in an odd position. A strong juggernaught through most of the game. I was hoping and praying it would have crumbled earlier than it did and was just cringing as russia kept going west. Once his belly was popped it was over though.

Paused Games...
OK, the mod email is filled with requests to unpause games. Here are some pointers to help us out in getting those games unpaused.

If you are playing for points... make sure its 101 or greater.
Too many Multis again... I'm not going to name names or point fingers since we can't but it's getting to the point where I am playing half the time with multis and losing an assload of points. They are getting even more clever and using a new "slave" account every few games. Watch out fellow fair players.

CONSERVATIVE MAN
Funny....the littel boy calls himself a "man",and yet so very often his posts are whiny, bitchy, little-boy posts asking for basic relationship advice. Since he knows mostly nothing about anything....should he have to change his name?

He is a dumbfuck, both poltiically and socially. How pathetic.....but I'm sure his Mommy is proud of him....<sigh...> (I hear she has a *firm grip* Isn't that right, eh? ConservativeMan???

The Compliment Thread
Given all the rage against various users, and bile that some members of the site like to throw around I thought it might be nice to have a thread were we can celebrate the good side of our community.

Which is to say pay the person above you a compliment.

Civil Discourse
I have always enjpyed civil discourse, where I can have a battle of philosophy, theology and history with someone while maintaining civil. With that in mind, I am thinking of going to a local mosque and asking if there is someone that would participate in an interfaith discussion. Are there others who enjoy this type of thing, or am I weird in this.

Can anyone critique my essay?
This is an essay for my English summer assignment. Note that I'm a sophomore in high school, so don't expect it to sound like an English major wrote it. Also, it's about a mentor of mine, dead or alive. I chose Jesus, and I hope that the atheists on here are unbiased enough to give a good review.

Thank you for your patience
I currently don't have mod status, and most of the mods are on vacations, so fortknox has been handling all the unpause requests himself.

Thank you for your patience while we sort this out. Remember, you can upause games yourself by all voting to Unpause ingame.

Can we program a semi-anon variant to decrease likelihood of multi and meta cheaters?
The variant will show who's playing but not what country he or she is playing. Then the players are able to spot metagamers and possibly multi cheaters right away.
Please give feedback on idea and feasibility.

how would you know if they were meta or multi if you don't know who is who?
We have tools to find this information out. I'd think this would create more 'false positives' than anything else. If you looked at my play a couple years ago, you'd see I play a -lot- of games with Ivo. Even anon ones. And we always seemed to cooperate. We just both play a style that works well together. I've never spoken to him outside this website, and he lives in a country on the other side of the atlantic. We aren't multi, we aren't meta, but a standard player with information could go into our history and start throwing accusations...
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
10 Aug 11 UTC
We would use that info to email the mods to determine for us if they are multis. You, a mod, the almighty mod I might say, can then determine the veracity of the accusations and can cancel, pause games or ban the cheats.
Rommeltastic (1121 D(B))
10 Aug 11 UTC
But then we would make identifying one's self a part of the game. If I know that there is a player with a GR twice as high as me in the game, I can promise you I will do everything in my power to identify them and dispose of them quickly. Making WHO that person is only makes identifying yourself more a diplomatic tool, which I don't think is necessary. Mods can see who's playing who in a game even when it's anonymous, can't you?
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
10 Aug 11 UTC
See this would work if you consider only players like yourself who are not going to overreact to losing. However, with a lot of the newer players, especially those who do not understand how to signal allies in gunboats the mods are going to get flooded with cheating reports against the more skilled players.
Alderian (2425 D(S))
10 Aug 11 UTC
I personally would like this just to know who I'm playing against, not to try and figure out who to eliminate or work with, just to get to know people better. I don't think it would be terribly useful from a multi-meta-catching perspective because of causing more harm than good.

As for playing someone with twice the GR of myself, I can promise you that if everyone else wants to gang up on that person, I will use that to my advantage and join that person to tromp on everyone else.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 11 UTC
There are two mindsets with regards to higher GR/Points players. One is to attack them. The other is to ally with them.

I'm of the third... :-)

Do what is called for to get you the best possible spot in the game at that moment in time.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 11 UTC
And passworded anon games give you that semi-anon aspect anyhow. Considering I mostly play passworded games, that means I usually know who all is in the game.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))
10 Aug 11 UTC
I play mostly passworded invite games as well and those are basically all semi-anon games. And how would you figure out who has the highest GR in a game? It's enough work to convince people to work with you.
Draugnar (0 DX)
10 Aug 11 UTC
If you know who they are, you can go search the GR standings.
zultar (4180 DMod(P))

In a semi-anon game, you know who's playing but you don't know who is playing which country.

Thank You, Geofram!
I just wanted to publicly recognize Geofram for sitting for me for an extended period of time in which I had no time to properly pursue my Diplomacy games. He stepped up when I didn't have anyone to ask and ensured my opponents had an opponent instead of a CD.

Why post this in the forum? He deserves the kudos, and anyone who thinks more highly of him for this is icing on the cake.

Registration
It is impossible to register to this game since the switch to the dedicated server, the validation page just refreshes. 6 of our group is already registered, but we cannot (and will not) start a game without the seventh member. If it is a browser issue, IExplorer, Firefox and Chrome are displaying this error.

Hope this will get resolved soon, I'm eager to play with my friends.
